Hi.
I'm in Canada and considering buying some stuff from
Fred and Tim in the USA. Has anyone had any
experience in getting stuff through customs at the
border? Do you have to pay any additional charges to
get it across or can it be sent hassle free? Any
advice or tales of experience appreciated. Thanks.

WELL, I was watching some show about the history of four wheel drive on the
discovery channel and they interviewed the astronaut and asked questions
about the
lunar buggy. He pointed out that the tires on the lunar buggy were metal
mesh or net, transparent if you look close enough. He talked about how the
rubber would be flamable, and NASA shy's away from anything flamable and the
air pressure in the tires would be yet another variable to have to deal with.

Well actually I suppose that one still is. The one I saw obviously didn't
make the trip. Can you imagine what all those Hasselblad Lunar Edition

Infrared lighting for your KLR anyone? These prices are contracted,
but if Hayes will sell the chrome progressive springs for the front and the
upgraded rear shock for anywhere near $415, that would be a bargain.

Maybe the Honda was a CL 350?

I think the first year for the SL 350 was 1970. The CL 350 was made
in the late 1960's and early 1970's.
> the SL was a scrambler, basically a street bike with high pipes.
The CL 350 had high crome pipes, the SL 350 low black pipes with
mufflers angled up so they were above the rear axle at the outlet.
I bought a CL 100 in 1970, SL 350 in 1971 and a XL 250 in 1972.
I don't buy new bikes every year anymore. :(

Subject: (klr650) Lubricating Debates & Choices (couldn't resist)
Probably a can of worms, but what is life all about if people can't have
strong feelings about oil!
I am coming to the 500 mile first service. I am pretty new to the
motorcycle scene, and extremely new to the world of KLR. I have had good
experience with autos using traditional oil, and only one experience with a
synthetic blend. Had to rebuild a 302 Ford due to parafin (sp?) buildup
plugging the drain holes thus not enough oil to pump since it wasn't making
it back to the pan..this is a bad thing to happen when racing back from
Padre @ 120mph. (ok that was stupid too...younger then and almost have
learned better. :)
Now to the official question:
IS SYNTHETIC BETTER FOR THE KLR OR IS TRADITIONAL OIL?
and the follow up:
WHAT BRAND AND GRADE?
I read someone had 130,000 miles on their KLR...what are they using? Maybe
I could rub some on me and live a little longer!
Let the debate begin.
Thanks,
Dust

P.S. Bogdan... you must be a really short little bugar! 30" inseam.
How do you reach the ground?

I don't know about those.
However, I don't see much point in running the brake line dry.
If I empty the master cylinder I use a syringe.
As well, think about ways to reduce the amount of old fluid in the
caliper.
As the fluid line port and the bleed screw are fairly close together,
there is no guarantee that all of the old fluid will be flushed
from the caliper. Since the caliper end is where all the heat is,
that is where the fluid needs to be at its best.
It may help to push the piston in move most of the old fluid out
of the caliper.

If you're really curious, you could pull off the clutch case to see
how much wear there has been on the clutch. Unless you've given it
a hard time there shouldn't be much wear.
With considerate use the clutch could easily last 80,000km (50k mi).
While you're there you could check the oil pickup screen to see
how much junk there is caught up in it. I had lots in my screen
when I had the case off to do the waterpump seal.
There is nothing to adjust on the clutch inside the case.
> Oh yeah, if I replace clutch
> plates, do I need to run a few oil changes with the dino stuff?
I'm no expert on synthetic, but it shouldn't make any difference.
Just pre-soak the friction plates as per book procedures.

Quite so. You could still have 32psi (gauge) pressure in the tyres
on the Moon, but you would need with less gas in the tyres to
achieve that pressre.
