I think it's fine if people want to always cheap their way thru life... =

If my choice is an obivously price gouging or borderline reputable dealer =

and rent first and then go with the cheaper price. =20
For instance, took some pistons and cylinder into the local shop to be =

know what the hell was going on, he called in the mechanic who said he ran =
his finger down the inside and could tell they were bad. How did that =
amount to two 10 minute units of time and why did he get so pissed off =

You guys shopping at Wal Mart or the local mom and pops?
You guys driving foreign or US made vehicles?
You guys wearing foreign or U.S. made clothes?
Good, fair, polite dealers will not have a problem staying in business. =
Thieves, incompetents and assholes deserve to go under.

Wow. I was lucky enough to get 2 copies of that. This conversation has become a) NKLR and b) a rehash of a conversation that has happened many times before. I'm gonna go search the archives, relive the flame war, and stop posting...

James,
I consider paying 2 to 3 times the cost of something that is NOT superior in
quality RAPE!!
I try not be raped!!
ANYTHING I can get at the auto parts store that is similar in quality, but
significantly less expensive, is going to be purchased there. I have no
philanthropic bent towards mc shops.
On the other hand, five minutes from my house is a mc accessory shop. They
are prompt and friendly, and give 10% off retail cost on everything, without
my asking. I can even get them to come down a bit more when I buy a bunch
of stuff. They have my loyalty because they take care of me, not because
I'm concerned about if they possibly have poor business practices
(pissing/ripping off customers, not paying their bills, etc.). If they
continue to support me well, why would I want to mail order, etc.? It's a
business relationship. I'm in business for myself, if I don't take care of
my customers, I go hungry. I don't see any good reason why it should be
different for a mc shop. Maybe the mc shops should offer the "auto part
store" filter (a Fram last time I bought one at the auto part store at 3.95
vs. 9.95 at the mc shop) at a similar cost in addition to the mc shop
filter, and give the customer a choice.
I haven't had too much experience with the local Kawasaki dealer, as I've
only had my KLR for a short time. I'm certain I'll be giving them a chance
with parts and accessories, but their mc sales guys positively pissed me off
when I was out shopping for the KLR. I doubt I would buy a bike from them.
