Barnes and Nobles in Bismark sells Starbucks stuff, I think that's about
as close as you get around here. The last decent cup of coffee I had
was in Germany, come to think of it that was probably the last time I
had a really good beer also.

Don,
You have half the state of North Dakota between you and those few reindeer!
Mandan looks like a fair size city. How far do you have to go for your
double decaf latte' at Starbuck's? :)

When Vik and Brian came back from Moab, Vik had a box of filter skins (or
something like that). They may have been made by K&N. When you are in
particularily dusty conditions, you bag your filter with one of these. When
it becomes caked, you toss and replace it.

So... What it all really seems to come down to is a proper and good greasing
from the go-get. Once done, there should be no more problems.
Thanks Skip.

I wouldn't be... I have one, and other than look kinda trick - I can't see

Hi, Andre and all. I'm in Regina, Saskatchewan, and a local dealer has
what, I believe, Andre is talking about. The local dealer says it is more
'dirt-oriented' - I didn't particularly ask what made it that way, but one
thing he mentioned was 'more mid-range power/torque'. It is certainly more
colorful than the 'drab' green KLR's...it is predominately white, with blue,
purple, green and ?? I believe. And yes, he did refer to it as a 'KLR' as
well. Local price is around $6000 (CDN). (I think it was priced just 2 or
3 hundred MORE than the green KLR.)
Well, guys'n'gals, I've been away from this list for quite some time...just
couldn't find enough time to follow the list every day. I did a few things
to my '89 KLR last spring...all, I might add, thanks to youse guys right
here!!!!
I got the Kawasaki KLR-specific tail bag (nice, but haven't used it yet).
Also got the tall 'Kawasaki' windshield (BIG improvement on the hiway).
And got the Q.E. R&D lowering links ( I'm a heavy boy and now drag the
sidestand when I turn left and scrape I-don't-know-what, occasionally, when
I turn right!!!.)
Also got those wonderful 'hi-way' pegs (Tim Bernard) - although not with the
'loop'...they're GREAT !
And got a Dyno-jet jet kit for it (not installed yet...).
And Progressive fork springs (also not yet installed)...is "11-1151" the
RIGHT part number??...there was some confusion at Blackfoot in Calgary...
And the Kaw factory manual + supplement.
Only rode the KLR about 1000 km last year (an '89 with only 12,000 km
!!)...and only did ONE realllllly CRAZY thing with it...
I sold my '87 1200 Wing and bought an '89 1500 Wing and fell in love with it
and rode it everywhere! (And only did ONE reallllly CRAZY thing with IT
last year!!) Now thinking about selling the Wing and getting a 1500
Drifter.
Call me a slut...I fall in love with a different bike every year.
The KLR? Well, there are a couple of possibilities...
I just aquired a California Sidecars 'Companion' sidecar (about 15-20 years
old ??) and want to attach it to my KLR. My plan is just to ride it to work
and back - our streets are not great (I get to do my off-roading ON the
road!), and I love the KLR around town...AND...the side car would certainly
E-X-T-E-N-D the riding season for me!
*IF* I get the sidecar mounted...and *IF* it seems to work OK, the R&D
lowering links will be for sale, as I will no longer care about the
difference between the 34 inch seat height and my 32 inch legs.
Another option will be to sell the Wing *AND* the KLR (to lessen what I
have to borrow for the Drifter). In that case, the R&D lowering links, the
T.B. hiway pegs, the (un-used) jet kit, and the manual/supplement will be
for sale (I have a couple of local guys interested in the KLR, but they
don't want the 'accessories'...
If I sell the KLR, I know I'll regret it...but a new Drifter should help to
ease the pain...multiple bikes, up here, is becoming LESS of an option -
our lovely provincial government is upping the rates for licensing a *LOT*,
...AGAIN !!......my Wing will be over $800 this year with the KLR close
behind !!
- - - - - - - -
So, after months of silence, here I am again <G>. If anyone is interested
in any of the parts that I mentioned, let me know...also if anyone has any
tips on side-car-ing a KLR....I'm all ears. I'm not sure how this is all
going to unfold in the next short while...I hope the sidecar-thing works out
- - man, if I could ride for nearly 12 months instead of seven...!!! (I
haven't ridden since early November - damn snow !!!)
Whew...well, that's it for now...back to lurk mode.
(Bar joke...a baby seal sits up at the bar. "What'll ya have?" asks the
bartender. "Well...anything but a Canadian Club!" sez the baby seal.
Another...a skeleton sits up at the bar an' sez "Bartender, I'll have a
beer...and a mop".
One more...a horse walks into a bar. The bartender sez "Hey buddy, why the
long face?")
