Having begun on this list as an idiot who just got a computer, I needed a
little skill building, and I assume anyone would. So I offer this: Figure
out who you think the smartest most experienced listers are, then when you
have an archive question on a broad subject, like valves for instance, add a
'search by author' to your parameters to narrow it down. It may save you a
lot of perusing unrelated material to find your answer.
Remember, Loud Boobs Save Lives.

Fred, you have my blessings to go to bat for us. I haven't had the need for
a skid plate yet, but with putting lowering links on, I'm considering
blowing a chunk of the allowance on one...

Subject: Re: (klr650) Gino & Givi top case info
Hey Karl, I took an excitable plunge Sept. 4 on the purchase of my new Y2K
KLR650. Between then and the first of Oct. 1st I had ordered a KLR tank
bag, acerbis disc guard/rally pro and spoilers, Givi top plate E127, Givi
E45 Monokey luggage from Fred, annnnd, the (2) Givi E36's Monokey luggage,
the one piece northwest rack, engine guard/highway pegs, modified skid
plate from Tim.
Was I in debt prior to ordering all this stuff, yup. Did I go deeper in
debt, yes. I spent approximately $1060.00 not including the $400 plus on
the paging alarm system. Was it worth it well . . . hell yah! The wife
was understanding, somewhat. But my justification is I could either spend
$40 a week on gas in my full size 4x4 Bronco kicking it to a cold a/c and
killer thumping sounds orrrr spend $4 every two weeks. Go figure.
I love what I consider an investment. The E45 is what I usually keep on
the tail just because it holds my rain gear (which soaked me $150), helmet
and a few knickknacks. I pack the E36's on the side when I need to bring
my laptop and peripherals plus my gym gear. I have total trust in my bike,
the Givi bags, Tim's rack, and not to forget that good 'ol silent alarm. I
have ridden in some trencherous downfalls without myself nor my equipment
getting wet.
I just have to remember not to go to low on the turns when the E36's are
onboard. A few months ago I scraped the right side when I thought I was on
my Ninja. It scraped due to me having had lowered my bike with the awesome
R&D lowering links (which brought my income down $110).
Sooo, when my birthday, Christmas, Channuka, anniversary, fathers day, boys
day, Easter, or any other day when the usual folks exchange gifts. I say
to my family, thanks but no thanks I got my gifts already and ride on.
Aloha,
kahiau, E14

Hi Listers:
I've been off the list for a few months and see alot of new names, as
well as alot of the originals.
I sold my KLR and bought a 2000 KTM Adventure - a serious piece of
machinery!.
I've put just over 270 miles on it and am loving it more and more.
Aftermarket items like soft luggage, etc., however, appear to be scarser
than chicken lips. If can I get some suggestions from any of you
listers, I'd be much obliged.
Gino, if you read this I need to know if that neat little handle bar bag
you tested will fit the Adventure's bars.
Lastly, if anyone is interested, I'm selling my '98 Suzuki Bandit 1200S
(to pay for the KTM, what else?). It has 5.7K miles on the clock, case
guards, Yosh. exhaust and is super clean. Asking $5,600 obo.

can't find much info. Does if have a perimeter sensor?

This season I used the E45 as a top case. If there is something valuable that a
thief would know was in it they could pry into it. Unlikely that they would
just on speculation.
It looks a little less than attractive but it will hold a case of beer (cans)
and two bags of ice. Purty is as purty does, Momma always says......

I have been in touch with the Moose/MSR skid plate guys and we are working
on tuning up their jigs to make the KLR skid plate fit better. If we need
more protection for the drain plug, let me know so we can add that to the
mix.

I'll try to simplify for those that need it....
Previous email for good of new people not know as much about bike.
When new people ask question been asked many, many times, sometimes get no
answer because people tired of answer same question.
If new people look themselves, maybe new people find help or info they look
for.
To help new people look for themselves, Grog supply some url to help new
people find info.
Grog clear now? Grog no say no antagonistic anything, Grog no say stupid,
Grog no insult nobody. From now on Grog talk like Grog so people
understand. Maybe draw pictures with stick in sand help.
Yes arthritic Grog spend much of own time to build webpage, Grog talk to
makers of good things to make things we need for KLR, Grog even convince
makers to build things sometimes, Grog always try to anwer question when
someone ask. Yes, Grog no do much at all.
Grog confused, Grog wonder how some people can handle ride vroom vroom bike
if no can understand simple things.
Grog go by fire, Grog eat now. Grog bye.
End of line.

Let this be a lesson to us all. Buy a KTM and you suddenly must unload a KLR
and street hotrod.
Now, where's the logic in that?
