if you don't mind.
keep me informed of your progress with the bike.
I miss my R11GSA for the good wheels and the suspension travel but not
the cost.
And I don't care to go with the R11GA where I used to go with the GS.
But then, thats what the KLR is for lol..

I agree with Gino...I'd like to see an all brands list start to develop
but I don't know if it can happen. DUST could and should be that but it
just doesn't seem to go anywhere. Some of us accomplish the same thing
by subscribing to all dual sport related lists, I'm on: DUST; KLX650;
KLR650; DR350 (soon to be simply "DR"); GS; Tiger, Guzzi, XT225; and
XR650L (I think as it seems to have 0 traffic Fred?); any I've missed?
The local Duc/Guzzi dealer added the Aprilia line this year. Gino have
you seen the RSV Mille? Even more, have you heard it? I haven't heard
anything so sweet since the old Norton days. Along those lines I
remember taking my quarterly trips from Stevens Point, Wisconsin to
Kenosha and milling about in the front room while the owner and
mechanics worked on the hottest Nortons on the planet in the back. The
entire building shook when they revved those babies....Same thing with
the RSV Mille....
I've found a gorgeous Duc/Cagiva E-900 and would consider buying it if I
had some sense that parts would be there for it...

...So I called the dealer back and said I really would like my valves
adjusted as part of the first service. He paused a second then said "Well,
you'll have to pay for it." I almost laughed (is there any free lunch?). To
make a long story short-- after all was done I talked to the tech who did the
work and he said one of the valves was near minimum speck but to adjust it
out would put it too loose because of the shim sizes available. Apparently
this is common also. Next time I'll do them myself.

Might be because I don't see your name on the subscribers list. If you
would like to subscribe to the Honda XR650L list, check out
http://www.onelist.com/subscribe/xrlug
This list is about 1/4 the size of the KLR list but it is growing. We don't
get into guns, wilderness, oil levels, etc. This is a good informative
group and I am proud to be the list administrator.
Also check out my "New & Improved" web site at www.arrowheadmotorsports.com
Let me know if there is anything that isn't working there.
Thanks!

Thanks Kurt. I'm used to doing the valves on my GPZ (inline four). On it I
have enough shim sizes available the I can set my valves either on the tight
side or on the loose side but I have never done a KLR before so when it comes
time again I'll give you folks a yell.

I I don't think i would trust that tech, Better loose than tight as a
rule of thumb,
If you want something done right you gotta do it your self, I have a few
good mechanics in this area, but the shop charges are like 42.00 an hour, And
i am a tight wad, LOL .

No, I just found out about the Aprilia dealership yesterday. Photos of the
Mille are something to behold, so it must look good in person. It may tie
with the new Triumph 995i (silver) for best looking sport bike.

KLR shims come in .002" increments...generally that means that you can always
choose between on the tight side or on the loose side...

Good luck, have fun, and tell us how the valve checks work out. I might
have sprung for a Gran Canyon myself except that 1) it will be replaced with
a different bike next year, so there will never be a big base of riders, or
mechanics, that are familiar with it; 2) Cagiva USA would not confirm for me
that the User's Manual is mistaken when it says that the valve check
interval is 2,000 miles; and 3) the rack, and particularly the bungee hooks,
are totally inadequate. Otherwise, though, it should be a hoot to ride.

Let's put things straight: nothing is better looking than a Duc - a work of

Mille looks BIG in person - big, wide tank, huge pipe, and so on.
