Direct Conversion of a Modern Motorcycle Engine to Operate on Diesel/JP8
Fuel Using Conventional C.I. Diesel Technology
The objective of this proposal is to develop a method to convert a modern,
gasoline powered motorcycle engine to operate on JP8/Diesel fuel. The effort
will focus on the use of conventional compression ignition (C.I.) diesel
technology that will facilitate component design that maintains the
integrity of the unit construction of the motorcycle's engine and
transmission and allows integration into an existing motorcycle that meets
the performance and operability of the current M1030 Marine Corps
Motorcycle. The method of conversion must also be cost-effective to retain
the value of the military motorcycle and be a viable alternative to gasoline
powered vehicles in other related markets. Previous studies done by the
Royal Military College of Science, Cranfield University, UK determined that
current C.I. diesel technology can be used to meet established performance
standards. This effort will focus on the cost-effective integration of this
technology into modern motorcycle engine design with minimum impact on size
and weight. It is anticipated that component redesign will include the
cylinder head, piston, crankshaft/connecting rod and crankcase. Design
criteria will include the use of existing components to the maximum extent
practical.

Information has been trickling in, but very little from my favorite
manufacturer, BMW. The only thing I've heard from my source there is they
will have a limited edition R1150GS Town and Country model complete with
Hunter Green paint and fake wood siding. They filled the handle bars and
Tele-lever with lead the bike could weigh more, thus they can charge more for
it.

Sorry for the confusion. The Harley shop was Harley DAvidson of Southern
Alberta. I meant a comparison between the opulance of their store compared
to Blackfoot Motorsports. Blackfoot sells everymake of bike except Harley.
By the way, Blackfoot has an unbelievable ad in yesterdays Calgary Herald. A
brand new '99 Suzuki DR650 for I believe $5200 cdn. They state the regular
price as $6900 cdn.

Don't knock BMW, they're on to a marketing technique H-D has been using for
quite some time; in fact H-D has not just one but three new models coming
out.
for African-Americans, the "Black Boy"
for ladies who wish to cruise in style, the "Boy-Toy", a
specially accessorized Sportster, and
for people who lose their bikes in parking lots, the "Here
Boy", which comes when you call it.

Say what? About the only existing components left would be the clutch
and gear cluster.

Forgive me Kurt. I was so young and foolish when I first met Redondo.
My record was clean up to that point. I will reiterate my warning to all.
No matter how innocent it seems at the time, never cross an international
border with that satyr. Especially if he asks you to carry some of his gear.
For those waiting on the KLR's replacement...don't. The adoption of the KLR
by the US Marine Corp has postponed Kawasaki's plan to replace it. There
remains a slight hope that KHI will incorporate some of the US Marine
Corp modifications into the 2002 model year.
Against my better judgement, Redondo has arranged an interview with
myself and Fred Hayes of Hayes Diversified this coming week. I will also
ask about the availability of a maintenance video and report back here.
My full report will be in the February issue of Dual Sport News.
Peace to you my friend
Hiro

How about the "Coy Boy" for those that are too bashful to be seen in public.
It will turn red when a KLR rides up next to it.
Or the "Atta Boy" for your sons first bike. It will worship the ground you
walk on then it never calls home.
Then there is the "Boy Scout". This bike is good for helping old ladies
cross the street.
