Yes, it is. The product is called a wash primer and it typically contains
acid to etch the al.

further, well into "quadsport" territory.
The bike has been fitted with carrier racks that have a one-man kayak
attached on one side and a bicycle on the other.
Crosswind stability must be a foreign concept on this bike.
Does this bike belong to a lister?"
Sorry, I don't know who it was. However, along these lines, I am reminded of
surfing Big Sur last year, and meeting 2 guys with a KLR650 and a DR650 who
routinely carried a surfboard on their bikes. They had homemade wood storage
boxes attached to and perched on their tail racks. The surfboards sat on top
of it, lengthwise horizontal, rail facing into the wind (they were around
6-foot shortboards and thin, but still....!)
Further, they said when they go to Northern Baja, they take 2 boards each!
Insanity!
I'm working on the presumption that they won't be taking-up surfing 9-foot
longboards any time soon.

no, and you won't find any as they are on very different pages and you
need to become aware of that before making your decision. Looking for
one right in the middle? Look at the DR650SE...

Dear List,
In my early m.c. days I owned a KLR650. I didn't have a clue where my
interests lie. I moved on to other bikes and again am now considering a dual
sport. My memory of the KLR were great, competant on the road but a bit
awkward off road (for me). The phrase I believe is 60% road 40% dirt. I'm
looking for 60% dirt 40% road. What is the wisdom of the list? If I were
into touring a DP I'd go KLR but I'm more into hauling-in and exploring the
area. I'm looking for a lighter bike.

Subject: Re: (klr650) Stock front shield vs Clearview
I have made windshields from Lexan and Lucite. I get this material at Homebase a local building supply center. The 3/16, .188" material is what I like as the w/s does not flutter like it does with the thinner .100 material. This depends on the height too, the taller the more likely to flutter in gusts.
The thicker is hard to bend/heat to put a horizontal radius on. The thinner .100 material will be fairly easy to bend when mounting. I have made a short summer screen for the Concours with the .188 material and after melting the first two in the home oven, the third came out nice. About 200 deg and 3-5 min will soften the plastic. Then let it cool before taking it out. To stress the plastic for the radius I have tried rope/leather/straps etc.
Cutting has been a problem as the material melts when using a sabre saw. A band saw would be better as the blade had a chance to cool.
The large/tall/wide shield I modified to fit the Rifle base on my Concours is made fron a '84 GL Interstate w/s I got from JC Whitney for $30. It is 3/16 thick, Lexan, made by Slipstreamer. This works good for me. At 6'3" and with a long torso I can just see over it and get under it (look thru it) by slumping slightly. I only had to trim the bottom edge to fit the Rifle base.
When playing with w/s mounting I find that the angle back from vertical can be adjusted depending where the holes are located on the outboard side of the w/s. That is, locate the two holes off center of middle and then pulll back on the top to locate the others for the angle of lean you wish. This vertical is why I do not like the Rifle w/s. It is too vertical and to small of a horizontal radius, that is the one I ordered for the Concours I mean. I personally have not seen one for a KLR yet.

Dear National Forest Service:
Are we living in America or Nazi Germany. Since when did a bunch of
un-elected environmentalist get control of our public lands. What gives
them the right to trample on our rights to have reasonable access to public
land bought and paid for by the American taxpayer, and all the people who
fought and died for this country. Instead, your going to do the bidding of
a bunch of lazy people who hate the military, worship trees, and don't
contribute a dime to the national treasury, because they work for
non-profit organizations? If you do, then the NFS stands for the National
Fascist Saps.

I wish I knew. I had a friend take it apart and clean it to see if I
missed anything. I then took the vacuum hose off and sucked on it while
putting the fuel line into a gass jar. Fuel did flow so I assumed that
meant that the tank valve was working. Still didn't start. Next I
tried a shot of Starter Fluid. That did it. Why I don't know. Maybe
since the carb was stripped it was bone dry and that the starter fluid
got the engine running and then the fuel flowed correctly.

It sure worked in Seattle.
You write in your style, and I'll write my style. I won't tell you how to
write and you don't tell me. Free speech is what it is all about. I don't

but I write what I feel, and that is how I feel. If I offend anyone I am
sorry, but I would not change a word of it.

Had a very good time at the Cycle World show in Seattle. Kaw GTOC invited members and COG members to a 1 hr preview with a continental brekkie and a digital photo on the Kaw bike of you choice. I am on the ZX12, heh heh. This early entry also got us in for the show free.
I bought an HJC Cirotech jacket and pants for d/s riding. I was thinking of Motoport/First Gear etc but these were last years model and 50% off ($217 for both) so i am taking my chances with these. Lot's of good features on this clothing.
The trial riding exibition was awesome. Lots of familiar faces there. Good to see you all.
