Listers,
Mark and myself can verify that this method works very well for both the
jacket and your machine. After Wednesday commute home, my KLR wad cleansed of
all the road dirt.
Worked better than a power wash at the local car wash.I might add that it's
also very economical. The storm was also effective in defoliating the trees
here in Keystone Moto Land.Gee,I guess I'll get to try my new tires out on
wet leaves now.

Just out of curiosity, how important is a motorcycle's racing heritage or
lineage to you the consumer. The reason I ask this, is because I was
reading the latest Cycle World last night which had an article about the new
Triumph 995. They love the bike, it works great, but blast it because it
has no racing lineage. What's up with that? I realize that if I were a
road racer, that would make a difference, but the majority of the riders
that buy that bike will usually only scrape pegs on the way to the coffee
house.
By the way, there is an ad for the Moto Guzzi Quota in that same issue.
While BMW is happy to show women (who have probably never been on a
motorcycle) posing by sparkling clean F650's, MG chose to show a women who
actually looks like she knows how to ride (and recently wore a helmet)
standing next to the muddy Quota. You go girl! Bravo Moto Guzzi.

Yea, very funny. My bike is, of course, the handsome KLR650 with the
checkered tank. I do not have those boxes on it anymore, those were
prototypes that I tested for Dan Doerr a couple of years ago.

That`s called Electron Theory, which is correct but confuses most
people. When using a schematic, either theory, conventional or electron
theory, can be used as long as you stay with the same one while tracing a
circuit.

Nope, I'm back for a few days. I liked the Tiger very much, great motor and
very nimble. Handled loose dirt roads very well but my big concern was the
vulnerability of the oil cooler and radiator coolant lines in case of a
spill, they are very exposed.

A bike that's been siting around can incur more damage and wear than
a high mileage machine that's been maintained properly. It's rare that a
machine such as you describe has been stored properly. The first thing I
would check is the state of all fluids; don't forget the brake fluid. If
possible do a compression test. My brother bought a beautiful R75 Beemer
with less than 20k miles. It needed rings from just siting. I bet you could
talk him down to $500. Bogdan

Wow, I basically bought the same bike. I got a lot more than I bargained
for problem-wise.
A quick checklist for you:
1. Check the airbox for rodentia
2. The oil is no good, so don't even think of firing it up until you
replace it
3. The coolant's condition is also dubious
4. The tires MUST have at least a little dry rot
5. Expect quite a bit of scaly rust in the gas tank
6. When you replace the battery, squirt a little oil in the cylinder before
turning it over
7. Inevitably, there's gonna be varnish in your carburetor
8. Lastly, I wouldn't go over $600
Good luck.

Stock seat on new Y2K has got to go. Love the Corbin on my R11RA and
love the one on my ex '95 R11GSA. Quite a few 700 to 900 mile days on
those dudes with no butt pains. What's the yeahs and nays on Cobin
modified or Russel or Tim Simmon in Fayetteville, Ark. or???????.
Had to modify the Corbin for my DR with the help of local uphostry dude
and soft foam.... did okay....but need better for the KLR.. Long days in
plans. Let's hear it from the dude doing 500 to 700 mile days out there.

Andy, I haven't heard anyone regret getting a Russell or Mayer seat for
comfort and long-distance riding. There are riders on this list that use the
Corbin (modified and not) and the stocker with their KLR and have no
complaints either. I would suggest trying Russell or Mayer because they have
a money-back guarantee on comfort.
