Thanks, I have been using just a vest and all seems well...
Actually that is a bit of an understatement...It has been a real
revelation.. The warmth is wonderfull..I am just wrapped in this
delightfully warm caccoon. I shudder to think of all those chilly rides
in the past.
Go electric!

I spoke with Carrie again this evening. She is pretty stressed out and beat
up. Mike's condition is as follows: He has a fractured and dislocated hip.
They have been attempting to set the hip, but it looked like surgery was
needed. I'm not sure about Carrie's condition, she did not give a whole lot
of info about her injuries. My neighbor and I are leaving tomorrow morning
at about 6:30 a.m. and should be at the hospital at 8:30 a.m. We will
retrieve their camper and the KLR and their gear and return to the hospital.
My guess is that they will both be there for a few days.
From what I understand, they were riding two up on the KLR when they hit a
cow on a forest service road. After some time, a pickup came by and they got
Mike into the bed of the truck. They lifted the KLR up and Carrie rode it to
the house of the pickup truck driver. She told me that the bike started but
can't remember if anything else was damaged. She just rode it.
That's all I have for now.

Yup... the fogging is a bit of a hassle on the RF800 in cold weather, but
at least it has a little lever to help you flip up the visor quickly.
Overall though, this helmet is great in my opinion, especially for the
price. Its really comfortable on my head. I'm on my second one.

Gino, please send them all our best from the list! I broke my pelvis in a
couple places in '87 in an accident, so I can empathise with the amount of
pain Mike must be in. Trust me... it's alot. Don't tell him I only weighed
190 lbs before my accident though... he only needs to hear good news.

Oh dear, I didn't see that one coming!
Still, I'm sure the strummers of this list could subtly whip the
lyrics of this tune into the theme song of the list, to be sung
around the campfire at Moab.
Would that make us the only bike list with its own song?

Ack. Every year makers claim improved ventilation but they just don't
work better. Maybe different, but not better.
One of the best vented fullface jobbies I had was a Nolan N35 Air.
Admittedly a cheap helmet, it had big vents that really worked at
road speeds.
Fancy and expensive race-spec fullface helmets might vent ok at race
pace but that doesn't always translate well onto the road.

The best antidote to helmet fogging I've found, is a Fog City Fog Shield.
They work for me. I have had one come off in extreme heat, but otherwise
they work fine.

Right, also you'll have to remove the right front panel and maybe
the left. Take off the radiator cap. Unscrew the drain plug (it's the one
facing down, not to the side). Drain the coolant. Immediately wipe any
coolant that spills on the bike. Eyeball the reservoir container on the
right (otherside to the radiator). Remove the screen in front of it. Remove
the bolts holding the reservoir but NOT the hose running into the top of it.
With the cap ON practice dumping out the coolant, you'll have to find the
optimum position; it's a bit tight there. Remove cap and pour out the
coolant. Reinstall drain plug & the reserve container with cap closed. Pour
correct amount of coolant into radiator. Run bike for 15/30 seconds. Pour
coolant into reserve container, up to the top line. You're finished; put
everything back together. I'm at work so I'm writing this from memory
without the benefit of the manuals. Don't think I've forgotten anything?? I
believe Fred still has both manuals. Say Hi ! to Dad (Milton). Bogdan

Buen Viaje you lucky perro !! Bogdan
Leaving tomorrow for the first Baja trip of my main riding season,
this one
only a week and a half but as I have posted before I will be in Baja
about
50% of the time from now till April. This trip will be San Felipe
south to
Bahia Gonzaga and Calamague then to Bahia de Los Angeles, San
Francisquito ,
Santa Gertrudis, El Arco, San Ignacio, the salt flats route to
Scorpion Bay
(San Juanico) then across to Bahia Concepcion which is my home base
in Baja.
Breaking no new ground on this trip but revisiting favorite places
and
people. The trip south by this route is about 60% off pavement,
returning
will be mostly by Highway 1 which is why the versatility of the KLR
has made
it my favorite bike for Baja riding. My Beemer R80PD was too heavy
and real
dirt bikes can't do the hwy. I'll post a report when I get back.
