I am thaankful that Cameron is Ok & was spared. I too have some major
injuries.
#1 drive defensive Cameron was alert & did what he could to save himself,
but lets not prejudge the guy who said the first that came to his mind. WE

So I call Fred to get a manual. And because of the recent discussion on line, I
pick up an extra shift lever for my trip to Baja. And a stainless steel oil
filter.
Fred's just got such a smooth voice. I'd buy anything from that man. :)
Hopefully, in a couple of weeks, I'll be able to post to the list about my
efforts to remember what I used to know about engines and electric circuits...
And maybe I'll even have a working tach.

I agree. If he's not helping, try a different one. I've seen a wide
variance in 'abilities' among different physio therapists, massage
therapists, and chiropractors.

I wonder about that...could it be that the pain increase is inversely
proportional to the amount of injury? Seems like I've had smaller and
larger (amounts of) injuries over the years and it didn't seem to matter
that I also had road rash when I already had a dislocated shoulder, or
when I crushed my foot, the other bruises didn't seem to matter at all.
Well, I gotta tell this MAJOR DUMB story about my crushed foot...
I had an '81 Yamaha ??175 Enduro, a real pretty little RED bike that I
bought new, primarily for running around town and to work and back. I
had it for several years and it was in perfect condition...and did I
mention it was pretty, too? I hardly ever took it off the road, even
though I REALLY missed thrashing around in the dirt, because I didn't
want to scratch her...she was so pretty.
One Sunday morning I was riding up and down the street in front of my
house doing wheelies, just for fun. Well, she came up and over and was
falling to the left. I was so afraid of HURTING my pretty little bike
that I threw myself on the pavement and pulled her down on top of me so
SHE wouldn't get hurt.
Well, horrors! I broke the tail light lense! But that's all!
Oh, ya, I crushed my foot and almost put a handlebar through my chest.
Glad I ain't that young'n'stupid anymore...heh heh heh.

Subject: (klr650) Question regarding exhaust heat
I had not noticed until today that the exhaust on the KLR is producing
enough heat that the luggage rack is becoming very hot on the side over
the exhaust. In fact, the grab rail section of the rack is hot enough
not to be able to hold on to if there were a passenger. Has anyone else
noticed this? This has probably always been the case but I did notice
it and became concerned that something was causing the exhaust to
overheat. The temp gauge is reading normal. Thanks for the help.

But, speaking of painful places to get injured...
Many years ago I was dirt bikin' with a friend in the 'Big Muddy', a
valley South of here. I saw him crash just over a little rise and, not
seeing him get up right away, went over to check.
Turns out he came across a rattlesnake and in an effort to avoid it he
not only ran over it but then fell off the bike. The snake, rather
pissed at being ridden over, bit him...got him right on the penis.
Well, he couldn't ride and our bikes were too small for two, so I raced
across country to the nearest town for help (only a couple of miles
away). I rode in hard and fast and spotted the doctor's office on Main
Street.
I burst into the office and explained the problem and the Doc said he'd
get in his 4x4 and get out there as quick as he could, but it was VITAL
that I get back to my buddy as fast as possible and "make a cut and suck
the poison out, or he'll DIE!".
I rode back out there just as hard and fast, and my friend asked what
the doctor said. I broke the news..."Yer gonna die!"

My only problem to date with the KLR is I don't have enough time to
ride it. I plan on taking a five state tour next month and still only
have 350 miles on the odometer. Not knowing the schedule of my dealer,
I hope he can get it in and out quickly for the 500 mile check-up. I
really enjoy this thing, I have had a number of bikes in the past and
this gives me all the good feelings from each. Kawasaki really did a
good job on this, probably why they have not changed anything
drastically since the KLR A1.

Rev. Chuck, be careful, a lot of people have had dealers be very willing to do a quick
500 mile check...charging you $150 for essentially an oil change...Kawasaki says valve
check/adjustment and that is what you should insist on...many of us have had tight
valves on the first check. (I had 3)...

told me my method of judging chain tension must be great since my chain
lasted so long. Here it is: With the bike on it's sidestand & unloaded, find
the spot were the bottom run of the chain is closest to the padded front
section of the swingarm. Push the chain up. It should almost touch the
swingarm. About 1/16" away; 1/8" is too much. Afterwards you can see how
much loading the bike changed it's position and go by that when the bike is
loaded although I never bother. I check it at night while oiling. Bogdan

Subject: (klr650) Fork Air Pressure?
Having only one minor (?) issue with my bike: the "rapid road angle
change" when mashing the front binders, I plunged into a quick and
easy attempt to remedy. I added 10 psi to the cold forks and stiffened
the rear re-bound. Not only did I raise the seat height (I am now 36
inch inseam-challenged) but I also cut the dive effect quite a bit,
enough for me for now.
Anybody know if 10-psi cold will damage the seals, or promote early
demise?
Maybe I should measure the fork pressure after a good long washboard...
