Fred is right. But there's a less fatal way you could do us all a
favor....you could be a responsible person and realize that offending others
(such as many bikers, other motorists, pedestrians) with excessive noise
gives us all a black eye, and makes the damn hard work of a lot of folks
promoting riding a lot tougher. Don't you think you owe it to those who
promote our sport to at least not make their lives more difficult?
You say you want spark arresting....meaning, I take it, that you want to
blast your way through the woods too. Gee, won't hikers, nature lovers, and
small furry things just love that!
It's great you are such an enthusiastic sounding guy. Please help
protect what the rest of us are enthusiastic about too. thanks!

We'll assume you mean "significantly louder than stock"
My bike came (used) with a Cobra 4 stroke exhaust. (Not ISDE)
It lookes excellent, is definately louder than stock,
but not to the extent of being obnoxious.
As an added bonus, it's half the weight (or better).
Other listers can recommend rejetting options or check

Have fun. Ride safe.

Picked up my Nolan N100 helmut today based on the List's recommendation.
Seems pretty sweet - I like the way chin protector flips up. I test it out
by walking around the house and standing in front of a big fan to simulate
how the wind might feel someday if my new bike from Burbank ever gets here.
I got my Michigan TIP(temporary instruction permit) several days ago. Do
all states have to get these permits now? Still have to take my road test
but, again, cant do that without a bike. But i'm not bitter...

just got back from 7 exciting days of R&R in SE Tennessee! Great riding
areas boys (and gals), get out your atlas find GA, TN, and NC. here they
are:
Leaving SUCHES: North on 60 to 76. East to Blue Ridge. @ Blue ridge, North
on Rt 5 to McCaysville/CopperHill. Turn Left at IGA store, now on Tennessee
RT68. Winds past a copper mine processing plant. Yucky scenery for about 10
miles, but keep going through DuckTown. Keep North on RT 68.
Just Outside of TurtleTown you have a choice. You can bear right on 294
for 4 miles to see Fields In The Woods,( a religous attraction where they
put the 10 Commandments and other biblical writings on the side of a
mountain. Its Free.) Or you can bear left and keep on RT68 it gets good
here! When you enter the Cherokee NF follow the sign for Buck Bald. Its easy
to miss the turn, it looks like a driveway. Its a gravel forest rd (about 5
miles) leading to the top of a mountain with a 360 degree view!
Keep following 68 North to Telico Plains and turn right on the Cherahala
Scenic Skyway (RT 165). This road goes straight over the Smokies, is hardley
used, is only 10 years old with perfect, seamless pavement and takes you up
to 5500 feet. Follow this 50 miles or so to Robbinsville, NC, then RT 129
south to hook up with RT19/74. Hope you like twisties and scenery!
19/74 North takes you through the Nantahala Gorge, 19/74 south heads you
back to the Tennessee/Georgia Line.
The Cherahala Is Worth The Trip. No One seems to know about it. When we were
on it we only met 3 vehicle coming from the opposite direction. 2 were
bikes! Don't try to get there from Robbinsville because its not well marked
on the NC side, easier to reach from Tenn.
P.S.: The Cherokee NF also has two Off-Road trails! One crosses the Buck
Bald Rd near the top! MC Trail #82
Check it out in your atlas!
Happy riding

MAW is notorious for high shipping charges and claiming to stock
backordered items. I highly recommend MXSouth. Jeff provides
excellent service and will match other mail order prices, where
possible. Give Jeff a try at-

On this page:

are instructions for making a budget swingarm lift.
I made mine about two months ago. It still works great! I have a
cheap hydraulic floor jack that I use to lift the bike up. Then, I
hold the bike and use my foot to position the "lift" under the
swingarm.
It's great for adjusting the chain tension (which I've force to do
quite frequently due to my penchant for wheelies).

Subject: (klr650) KLR650 P.O.S
My bike has broken down for the 7th time sine February of '98. This time it's
been in the shop for 3 1/2 weeks. Same problem as before, seems the carb is
not working right and chews up the float valves causing the bike to sputter,
die, and pour fuel into the engine and out the bottom. All this while at
speed on the hiway.
I called Kawasaki to complain about the service and support that I have
received from the dealer and Kawasaki. I asked if the bike could be replaced
due to the 7 times the same problem has left me walking. To this they pretty
much said to pound sand. The check had cleared and I own the bike. They do
not replace motorcycles for any reason, they do however stand behind the
machine. Obviously this is because it's the only place to push the piece of
shit from.
My dealer told me a factory tech would be out to work on the bike. One week
later still no tech. Kawasaki said they don't have factory techs, so not only
is the bike a piece of shit, the dealer a liar, and Kawasaki really doesn't
care about the quality of their work.
So if I ever get my bike out of the shop I have a 1998 KLR650A12 P.O.S for
sale because I'll be damned if I am going to wave Kawasaki's flag for them
after how I've been treated.

Scott,
I agree a lot of companies do that, but so far I haven`t had any complaints
with MAW. The N100 helmet I ordered last was priced at $147.95 , shipping
was $5.10 (came in 3 days UPS) and the infamous handling charge was $4.19. I
agree the handling charge may be a little high (I wish these companies would
just add the cost of this non-existing service to the price and be done with
it) but my total came to $157.24 which was still $40 cheaper than anywhere
else I checked.
I`m sorry you feel you`ve been gouged and I`m sure others may feel that
way, but so far they`ve treated me right. When I had ordered that Bieffe 3
Sport helmet, tried it and didn`t like it, they gave me a refund with no
hassle.

Dear MacGhairi
What a bummer. My advice would be to run it up the flagpole as high as it
goes. I don't know what state you live in, but in the state of California
the consumer pretty much has the last word. If contacting Kawasaki and or
your dealer gets no satisfaction then needle the govt. Here the automotive
industry is overseen by the State Dept. of Consumer Affairs, Bureau of
Automotive Repairs. These guys are mostly bozos, however they do have the
authority to revoke the repair liscense of any negligent facility. At such
time as you go to court, if the're on your side the judge will be too. The
other avenue is "lemon law" arbitration. Most states have some form of this
protection for the comsumer, such that the manufacturer must buy back the
vehicle if it cannot be repaired to your satisfaction after so many trys.
Whoever at Kawasaki told you they dont for any reason is bluffing you. I
work at a large Honda automobile dealer and I am familiar with this stuff.
These are the nineties man, this is not the age of aquarius....its the age
of the new consumerism. Talk to a lawyer. Talk to the District Attorney.
Start making a lot of noise.
Here is an example. Twenty years ago when I wrenched on VWs my mom
bought my little sister a VW station wagon thinking some how I could fix it,
even though she lived in Alabama at the time. The car had a gas heater in
it which caught fire and burned the the fuel injection harness and computer
up. Of course the insurance co. would not total the car. The dealer took
it apart and then started making excuses as to why they could not fix it.
She talked first to the service adviser, then the service manager, then the
dealership general manager, the district service manager all to no avail.
She then proceeded to call VW of America and talked to the CEO.! Within 24
hrs. someone was on a plane from Germany to fix the car.
So you can start making racket or remain a victim. Large companies
rely on the inate power of the dragged foot to wear you down. Be proactive.
We must fight the powers that be. Also it helps to document the entire
process. Get everyone's name, log every phone call, get everyones
supervisors name. BE ASSERTIVE, BE AGRESSIVE, BE OBNOXIOUS, BUT DONT BE
COMPLACENT.
If this does not work I'll give you my mom's number.
good luck, I' sure you'll win ultimately.
