Subject: (hats) S.E. Hats Meeting?
Was it Angela that suggested a "Meeting of the Hatless" (I about said,
"Meeting of the Minds", but that's another mailing list I'm on...)?
Do you care to elaborate?
Sorry it's taken me so long to respond, but work is pretty much my life
at the moment (at least those parts that aren't spent with my 2-year-old!).
Hatlessly yours,
Steve

Subject: (hats) S.E. Hatters Meeting
Hi Y'all,
Sorry I haven't followed up yet on my suggestion for a little get-
together down here for Southern Hatters! (And northern ones, if any
care to join us!) I'm so busy with work, plus Sebastien and I just
bought a new house so things have been kind of hectic around here.
Anyway I thought north or eastern Georgia would be a good central
location for us. Or western S.C.... But I have never been to either
of those places, so I don't know a good place where we could all
meet. It would be nice if we could go to a city that has a place or
two with an 80's atmosphere. Jacksonville has a large 80's culture
now, thanks to a new radio station that plays nothing but 80's Top
40/New Wave/Techno/Dance/Metal (all the good stuff). Now all the
clubs are getting on the bandwagon and they're having 80's retro
nights. Plus 80's bands like the Psychedelic Furs, Styx, REO
Speedwagon, Poison, and a bunch of others are beginning to include
Jacksonville on their tours --- I don't know if other Southern cities
have followed suit (maybe Atlanta or Columbia?). Southerners, just
send me your suggestions and we'll see if we can pull this thing
together. :)

hi Hatters!
I'm all for us getting together. I had so much fun the last several
times I've hung out with my fellow hatters that I'm looking forward to
doing it again! :-)
Angie mentioned that some of her local stations have 80s music
hours. A local station in Raleigh has "The Retro Hut of Love" every
Friday from 5 to 6 p.m. (makes me almost glad to be stuck in rush
hour!), and another station has "the 80s at 8" where they play like
5 or 6 songs from the 80s each weekday night at 8.
Raleigh has a new station (102.9 if you're passing thru) that plays
all 80s, and Greensboro has one as well (94.1). The 80s are still
alive and well in North Carolina, that's for sure!

I looked up Greenville SC on the map and it looks like it's in a
good, central location, not too far from any of us really...also I'm
so sick of the flat land down here that I am dying to go into the
mountains, and if I'm not mistaken, Greenville looks like it's right
in the middle of the Blue Ridge Mountains...if anyone has any
objections to Greenville, SC, please voice them. Does anyone know a
cool place to meet that's not too hard to get to from the highway?

That's cool, but do they broadcast on the 'net? :-)

Honestly, I'd love to go (and I would if I were still single...), but
with work and family life like it is for me these days, I don't think
that traveling anywhere is in the cards for me. Traveling to Fort Walton
Beach/Destin for Easter (my parents/grandparents live there, and it's
where I grew up) is hard enough!
However -- if you want to meet in Atlanta (which really *is* Hotlanta
these days [or Pollenlanta]), then I'd be glad to meet up with everybody.
If I were you, I'd prefer the mountains, too!
Otherwise, I'll look forward to the pictures!
Take care,
Steve

If my fellow Atlantians do not wish to travel, how about meeting at the
Totally 80s concert at Lakewood?
I heard an announcement today on the radio......didn't catch the date
exactly....I think it is June 15 or 16.
I'll find out for sure and repost if anyone is interested. I'd be willing
to pay for up to 10 tickets in advance. Let me know.

OK.....I did some hunting and found out more about the 80s concert at
Lakewood. Here's the scoop:
Sun. June 17, 2001 7:00PM
Hi-Fi Buys Amphitheater (formerly Lakewood Amphitheater)
Price: $20 - $42
Info: $20 lawn, $27 - $42 reserved seats (I say we do the lawn thing; more
fun that way).
Tickets on sale Fri. April 13 at 10AM. (I'll probably buy online at
ticketmaster.com)
Not sure if this is the complete list, but it will at least star the
following:
Asia, Berlin, The Fixx, The Motels with Martha Davis, and The Outfield.
Like I said, if there is enough interest, I'll buy up to 10 tickets in
advance. You only have to pay me back if you feel like it. ;-)

Oh that sounds like a great time!! I saw the Fixx in 1997, and
except for a few wrinkles around the eyes, they looked (and sounded)
exactly as they did in the mid 80's!! Also I know my husband would
love to see Asia.

hope that there is some sort of gathering in preservation of the Hats name.

Of course, I hope as many list members as possible will be there! If
anyone has a problem with Atlanta, voice your opinion. I was afraid
it might be too far for people in NC/SC/VA/ Wash D.C.

I would just like to remind everyone that I am the *psycho* that
drove from NC to MONTREAL for a weekend just to see You-Know-
Who. Getting to Hotlanta is a cake-walk by comparison (5.5 hrs vs
18) :-)
Let me know if this is *the* date and place, since we're starting to
get entry forms for dog shows in June... If it is, if anyone wants to
come from further north (VA/DC) or central/eastern NC and park at
my house, we'll take the Menwithouthats Party Van (my mazda
MPV) down to Atlanta. I promise to vacuum out the dog hair.
