The version of The safety dance that I received from Stephen Moore sounds like
a first version of the song only on synth.
Sounds weird!!!!!!

Subject: (hats) Saftey Dance
I have confirmed that the Saftey Dance that I emailed
out is the Octoprod version. I don't know where to get
the full thing, though.
I'm thinking of putting up a server for only list members
(NOT PUBLIC) to make it easier for us to identify each
other's MP3 files.
I'll post the status of my server in a few days.

I just want to thank John Koenig from the Discoverie magazine who published a
VERY VERY nice article on Men Without Hats and Ivan.
I think this is the most complete interview I ever read.

I dont really know what they are, but I have a very similarly looking
record of Duran Duran. It is a double-singlesided. I.e. 2 records with
tracks only on one side and with the other side blank.
I always thought they were some kind of limited edition official release.
Which are the versions of the songs?

Sounds to me like you've got an acetate, which where test pressings
which could be made quickly to test sound quality. The material is very
soft and disintegrates after a few playings so don't play too often.
Also if you where to melt away the plastic you would find that the
record has been pressed onto a metal plate.
I would imagine yours is extremely rare, acetates are made
indiavidually. Its very likely yours is one of a kind !

Hi,
I seem to remember one of the major record companies more bone headed
ideas was the one sided single. This supposedely saved the record
company enough money that they could charge less for the single. It
flopped miserably, as I recall.

Ah this remind sme of a book I read about bootlegs. It talked a lot about
Beatles bootlegs and how they came from acetate discs made by the BBC
distributed all over the world to affiliates of the BBC World Service.
For anyone who's interested, these are the same recordings found on the
"Live at the BBC" set but there were much much more. These were also
called transcription discs if I remember correctly, and were intended
to be played once. A tiny BBC station somewhere in India might still have
some of these.

thats a wierd idea as the pressing machinery would have had to be
changed... Maybe they just wanted to leave the b-side blank so they
wouldn't have to record another track - but my experience of b-sides
suggests that that was probably a good idea anyway! (except 'Security' of
course!)
On the idea of 'wierd singles' I have a 10" single by the Fine Young
Cannibals which features 2 grooves on the a-side - not sure what that was
all for as both tracks are the same. Odd non the less...

Subject: (hats) Pop goes the world interview
Hey gang!
in 1987, I taped a full interview of Ivan at a radio station here in Quebec.
The interview is 1 hour long (with some songs in it). It's in French. I
never thought about putting this public, but may be some of you are interested
to get it.
I have also some Karaoke version of MWH songs, that's another reason to do
bootleg.
Where are we with the bootlegs??? #8 or 9.... may be I can produce the # 10.
Anyway, I'm waiting for your suggestion.
Ciao!
Francis
