Subject: (hats) Open Your Eyes remixes--finally...maybe
Hiya everyone,
I've had the ultra-rare promo of "Open Your Eyes" with the two remixes for
a while and wondered how to get it to everyone. My tape deck can't record
(the horrors!) and I've been offered to have them recorded by some list
members but I didn't trust the postal system (I've lost a few things before
and I didn't have proper packaging for the record). Then I thought of at
least making a realaudio file but my stylus is worn out. Can't ruin the
record can I?
However, there is some light here :) A friend of mine (who I don't see
very often) is taping it for me. My plan is I can bring it to work and
make an MP3 out of it (much faster computer) and it will free to the asking.
PLEASE DON'T send me e-mails requesting the mp3 yet. Let's wait and see if
it can be done first. The computer I use at work is pretty quick. It's a
pentium 2 350 mhz with an amount of ram I can't remember (I think it's 32
or 64) and gigabytes of hard drive space. I've made mp3's with it before
(from wav files copied from CDs) and they are done in no time. I am
wondering if recording a wav from a walkman connected to the computer (in
real time obviously) will come out as smooth and I think? I tried it with
my 486 at home (hence the reason why I'm using my computer at work) but I
guess it was too slow so it made it's own edits if you know what I mean :)
So can this real time recording/saving be done? I'll be using Cool Edit.
Any advice on how to clean up the tape hiss? It won't be recorded in dolby
or anything. Straight fron turntable to tape (I know my fellow audiophiles
on this list are gasping in horror right now but it's all I can do).
This brings me to my next question. If they went to the trouble to make
the remixes (both are the same, folks, just different lengths of time) and
play them on the radio, why didn't they sell it?

hey there!
Daniele.....have you any access to a DAT walkman or stereo component? They
(well, the walkmen at least!) weigh about as much as a brick, but if you are
able to gain access to one to do the original dub from vinyl to digital format
to begin with, then it should wind up being a pretty groovy copy (ie: none of
the aforementioned "hiss" n' such).... Another idea is to take Myke's format
of choice and transfer it to HI-FI VHS tape, and just bring the VCR with you
for the final mp3 dub (I dunno if the latter is entirely possible, but it's
worth a shot in asking about it!)
Just a thought,
Harpi ;-)

Hey Harpi!
I bought a MiniDisc deck last June and have found it to be an absolutely
amazing little recording format as well - so my VHS HiFi has found a new
companion on the shelf! :D
I love editing music directly on the disc and rearranging the tracks, etc.

No, all I have access to is a broken stereo. If I had all that stuff I'd
be in heaven.

Subject: (hats) A new look at an old song
I pulled out my copy of the MWH video collection last
night to watch while I ate dinner. I had forgotten just how
cool the video for "In The 21st Century" is.
I always loved that song, but the video just makes it so
much more... I don't know, energetic and positive.
The camera movement as it circles the band on the small
earth set, Ivan dancing around... it just makes the song
come alive for me. I watched it four times in a row.
Also, until someone mentioned it on the list, I didn't
even notice that Stefan was in a wheelchair! There was
so much going on in the video that it completely
distracted you from noticing it!
