I just spoke to Carl at Oglio a few days ago. He contacted the Sparks
mailing list with an oh so subtle self promotion. I told him that I was
a bit disappointed that he hasn't been doing much 80' re-issueing
lately. He admits that it has been awhile but guarentees some cool
releases this year. He gave no indication what they may be. I've been at
him to re-issue Haysi Fantayzee and Classix Nouveaux since 92 but
nothing so don't hold your breath. I can't support you for the Ebn Ozn
re-issue as I can't stand them. Sorry.

Don't assume that you are a pretty small market share. If people would
speak up about what albums they would like to see re-issued maybe we
would get more. I've been sending letters out for years. Though most of
what I've wanted has yet to be re-issued I may have made a difference
here or there. The only suggestion of mine that appeared on Oglio was
the 2 on 1. I doubt that I had anything to do with it actually being
re-issued but who knows. It's always a good idea to have 2 or more
copies of a favorite LP that doesn't exist on CD. I have 2 copies of the
Haysi Fantayzee LP. It offers a little security. Until everything is
avalable I'll continue paying outragous prices for second hand vinyl or
long out of print CD's. Gee wilikers, I just had to pay $55 for a long
deleted Toyah CD!!

I've been suggesting Feeling Cavalier to Carl for years now, but to be honest
I doubt there are 25,000 people out there who even *remember* Ebn-Ozn, let
alone would be willing to pop for a CD reissue of that album.

Not to slam Carl, 'cause he's the MWH Man, but were there really 25,000 people
lined up to buy Freur or Wire Train?... Maybe I was living under a rock,
but I'd never heard of either of those bands until 1996...

Subject: (hats) 80s Music, Oglio and the 25K copies
hi,
This may not be the best time for me to weigh in on lists and such
seeing I have stepped on peoples toes as of late, but here goes-
When Oglio says they need to sell 25K copies, don't get too steamed up
at Oglio. They only licensee the stuff from the major labels. The
majors, in an act of cutting off their nose to spite their face, demand
that these bands like Ebn-Ozn or Classic Nevoux- who didn't even sell
25K copies when they CAME OUT- sell 20K or 30K upon re-issue, They
demand from labels like Oglio a guarantee that they will sell 20 or 30K,
meaning that if Oglio doesn't, they loose money. A company like Oglio
can make money off of a lot fewer sales, but the people who hold the
rights to the music don't want to hear about it.
I know of a story at ANOTHER label that got the rights to a solo album
from the '80s to a well known '60s and '70s member of a huge band. They
got the rights with a guarantee they would sell 20K copies for RCA, but
when RCA realized how quickly the little label said yes, they upped it
ot 30K and the little label backed out because they knew they couldn't
sell that many. TO this day those solo albums are not on CD!
So give Carl a break and start yelling at A&M about Ebn Ozn (or is it
Epic?)

Hello.
I thought I should reply to this directly but decided there might be some
others on this list also interested in Classix Nouveau.
I had been a fan when they were together and had also been pestering record
companies to release something by them.
EMI Gold (UK) recently (1997) came out with The Very Best of Classix
Nouveau, and here's the catalog number in case you need to order it: CD
GOLD 1104 (7-24385-99782-2). 16 tracks including new (?!) versions of
the Robots Dance and Guilty.
Haysi Fantayzee has one track on the cd 'Pop and Wave - the Never Ending
80's Vol 5', a two cd compilation from Germany (I got my copy at Virgin).
It is the only thing I have ever seen on cd by them; "John Wayne os Big
Leggy" which I suppose (other than Shiny Shiny) that's the best we can
expect. the label is Sony and the # is 478012-2
Bye for now.

If any of you are interested in the Best Of Classix CD I will warn you
that it will be difficult to locate. I had to order both of my copies
from places in the UK as no one in the US seemed to stock it. For the
record the new verion of the Robot's dance is the re-recorded version
that appeared as the B-side of the Guilty UK 12". Also the CD lists that
Guilty is the new version when it is actually the short version slowed
down a bit. It's a decent collection that does have some of their best
stuff but is nowhere near sufficient for us long term fans. Anybody have
video material on them? I had an ad in Goldmine looking for some but got
no responses. Very sad.

Subject: (hats) 80's rarities
Dear 80's folks,
I'd like to join the discussion about the availability of 80's goodies
because it's one of my favourite topics (although sometimes a very sad
story).
Rod stated that Haysi Fantayzee was only available on one particular
German sampler. I have some additional information:
"John Wayne Is..." is also featured on another German compilation CD
called "Audio 80's" (BMG records 261 299) together with some nice stuff
by Haircut 100 and an early version of Huang Chung's (!) "Dance Hall
Days".
But there are other Various Artists-CDs that feature Haysi Fantayzee's
"Shiny Shiny".
These are:
a) Just Can't Get Enough: New Wave Hits of the 80's Volume 11
(1995 US; Rhino Records R2 71974)
b) Living in Oblivion: The 80's Greatest Hits Volume 1
(1993 US; EMI E2 81417)
For those of you who are searching for 12" versions of old goodies
there is a number of (sometimes hard-to-find) CDs of interest like
the French "Culture Dance" series on Versailles Records (Sony) or
the Canadian "Hardest Hits" and "Classic Alternatives" series on SPG
(which has gone bankrupt, unfortunately, but I guess, most of the
titles might still be found).
There is a fantastic resource for 80's sampler contributions. You can
search for titles and artists. The page is maintained by a Swedish guy
and even has running times for most of the songs.
Here is the URL:
http://www.thegrid.net/mpaulsen/newwave.html
If I can be of help for someone who is searching for something in
particular (especially German CDs), don't hesitate to send me a mail.
I'm also looking for some Various Artists CDs:
a) "Steve Masters Presents: A Trip Back to the 80's"
(199? US; UBL Recordings A-26491)
b) "Just Can't Get Enough: New Wave Dance Hits of the 80's"
(1997 US; Rhino Records R2 72586)
c) "80's Dance Party Volume 2"
(1994 CA; SPG Music SPG 1982)
I'm looking for these CDs because they feature a song called "the
Dominatrix Sleeps Tonight" by Dominatrix.
Any ideas, anyone?
Cheers,
Frank M. Spinath

:) My first choice? What else? The Winnebago song. Totally
unexpected...it's 19 minutes long!!!! I had the impression it was a short
little demo recorded inside a winnebago. Maybe 2 minutes at the most. But
19?! :) I'm in heaven. No pun intended. Unfortunately, my 486 cannot
play it back in stereo so I'll have to do with mono. But I will buy the CD
boot though :) I just though I'd mention this. Peopel have been talking

To answer a couple things from your message, the Jubilee soundtrack is
now available on import, Sparks CD Angst in my pants, containing Mickey
mouse and I predict, is also available on import. In fact all, but one,
of their albums are available on import CD. The group that did She Went
Pop was called Iam Siam. I had the LP, I didn't like it. The group that
did We are what we are is called The Other Ones as opposed to The Young
Ones. Freur and Wire Train CD's are available from good old Oglio. I saw
Lene Lovich live in 90. It is still the best concert that I have ever
been to. You mention that you have video on some early 80's artists. I
am always looking for early 80's videos for my collection. While I have
plenty there are still some gaps in my video collection that I would
love to fill. Anyone out there sweet enough to share or sell??? Would
love to locate MTV from 81-84 copied straight through. VJ's,

I always find it odd that people on these lists get so mad when the
topic of conversation strays on occasion. Talking about MWH can't help
but slip into 80's related topics now and then. There's only so much
that can be said about MWH and I'm sure when someone has something to
say about them it will be said as opposed to sticking to a non related
subject. The list has gone quiet lately so list members are revealing
little details about what other things they like, getting to know a
little more about each other. There's nothing wrong with that, is there?

Subject: (hats) My URL has changed...
Those of you who have links to my MWH site may want to take note of
the fact that I've been completely redesigning the file/directory
structure of my entire site lately and the path to my MWH page is not
what it used to be.
The URL to my front page <http://people.delphi.com/mykec/index.htm">
has not changed, however.
From memory (Lord help me), the full URL to my hats page is:
http://people.delphi.com/mykec/main/artists/mwh.htm
The URLs to my mwh1.gif and mwh2.gif "wallpaper" files are:
http://people.delphi.com/mykec/main/artists/zimages/mwh/mwh1.gif
http://people.delphi.com/mykec/main/artists/zimages/mwh/mwh2.gif
I do hope I got those correct! If I didn't, let me know.
Sorry, Eric, the mwh.zip file I used to keep online seems to have
been accidentally deleted during my site's renovation. You'll
have to use the two above URLs until I can get a new one created.
In addition to these changes, you might also wanna check out the
new look to my MWH pages. For those of you who didn't like having
to wait for all the piccies to load before, I have implemented a
new strategy to hopefully help you out.
Angie Tooley, you're pics are also finally prepared the way I always
wanted to prepare them online. Not only that, if you click on the
big pics on the left (as opposed to the thumbnails on the right)
you will be advanced to the next pic in the series just as before,
however, when you get to the last pic, it links to my own personal
set of MWH concert pix. You can then cycle through my 16 pics - the
last of which then cycles back to yours! It's a continuous loop.
You can, of course, exit back to my main mwh.htm page by clicking
any of the available green "back-arrow" gifs there. Hope you like it!
