Subject: (hats) Anybody Ever Hear of Visible Wind?
Date: 04 Jan 2001 12:05:35 -0500
A friend of mine is on a Voivod mailing list, and one of the other people
on that list mentioned the band "Visible Wind". My friend told me about
it because the original poster claimed to like all things Men Without
Hats related.
From what I can tell, Visible Wind is a Montreal-based band that got
its start in the late 80's. I don't know whether they're still active
or not.
I found a couple of web pages. Here's what appears to be the official
site: http://www.aei.ca/~vwind/
This page has some samples of their work: http://users.andara.com/~vroy/samples.html
I listened to a few, and liked what I heard. Keyboards are present,
and play a major role, but the music is very guitar-oriented. I haven't
gotten through all the samples, yet ("The Awakening" is now playing),
and I haven't heard any vocals.
I just wanted to pass this along to you, to see if anybody else had heard
of the band. If you know how to get a copy of any of their albums/CDs,
let me know. Thanks!
Happy New Year to all,
Steve

Weird, I'd just been thinking the exact same thing. MWH always seem to me to
be about exploring boundaries - and crossing from decade to decade (or
whatever) has an important role to play in that... or am I taking this
waaaaaay too seriously?

Hello,
This is my very first message here , so I want to wish you a happy new year.
I'd like to know more about Yvan's solo album "The spell" .
Which year was it released?
Is it still in print?
How good is it?
Did Yvan made other solo records?
ok, that's all for now
Arnaud

First off 'Ivan'. Makes it easier to find.

1997 I believe (might have been 1996?). It's still in print in Canada.
At least, I see it _all_ over the place.
> How good is it?
I'm not a particular fan of it personally, it is too dance-clubbish for
me.

Not yet that I've heard.

When was the last time anyone checked out menwithouthats.com? It seems like
it's been updated...not too much of a content change, but it definately got
a face lift.
You all have a good one -

Wow, got to say I think that The Spell is on balance a great pop album. It's
not always successful (uh, the rap part comes across as appalling tokenism
to me...), but it's basically excellent. The first five or so songs (plus
Forever) are all winners.
Some of the stylings are indeed very "dance-clubbish" (ie. bubbly analogue
synths), but it's still very much a pop record. For example, judging them
solely as songs and ignoring the production, IMO Open Your Eyes and Walk On
Water are fundamentally pretty similar kinds of songs - that is, completely
brilliant. Great melodies and massive pop choruses. It doesn't get better
than this, surely?!
Alex, please get hold of a copy of The Spell (it's on Amazon if you
otherwise have a problem) - you won't be disappointed.

I actually have a copy of it (believe it or not)... but the other fellow
who asked, he certainly should hunt it down.

If you want to see a more surprising face lift, go to menwithouthats.com

Must have got distracted or something... I did of course mean the original
enquirer should still get The Spell.

Does anyone know when Rhythm Of Youth was first released? I mean, on exactly
what date? Was it sometime in 1982, or even 1981?
