Subject: (glencook-fans) Silver Spike or Shadow Games?
Hello out there! New guy here.
I've just finished reading _The White Rose_ after a friend recommend
The Black Company series to me, and I'm unsure what I should read next.
I've got a copy of _The Silver Spike_, but _Shadow Games_ seems to
pick up where the third chronicle left off. What gives? (Why isn't
Silver Spike the fourth chronicle?)
Probably a common question, but I didn't want to look through the list
archive too extensively because the first thing I happened to glance at
was a terrible spoiler... *groan*
Take it easy all,

The company splits.
Silver Spike follows Darling, Silent, & the rest who stayed in the North.
Shadow Games follows Croaker, One Eye, Goblin, and the others who go south.
The events occur in the same time frame, but really don't interact.

They *almost* interact. You get to see a few of the same scenes from
different perspectives and both groups hit some of the same tourist
attractions.
The short answer is it doesn't matter which book gets read first.
I'd make a case for saving the Silver Spike for second, since it does
have some impact on the other. If I remember correctly I read them
in publication order, but I've sense gone back several time and read
them both way, and even once read the at the same time (chapter
of one, chapter of the other, repeat).

In the order of publishing: "Shadow Games", "Silver Spike", "Dreams of
Steel". You wouldn't read "An Ill Fate Marshalling" before "Reap the East
Wind", would you?

Croaker didn't write it. It's not part of the annals.

Peter (I actually looked this time), would you please add this to the FAQ?
