Subject: Re: (fractint) motw007
Hi Jay,
I couldn't duplicate your problem. I used the d/l motw007.txt, renamed it=
to motw007.par and all worked fine. Don't make a copy from the text in th=
e
table, it's only an information which maybe has errors when using as a
par-file. Maybe the reason is because the text in the table is formatted.=
I never thaught that people would d/l the pars, but they belong to the
images, so I posted them.
If you are interesting in having the correct pars I can post them at the
list too.
>>The Image is created at 1600x1200 and then saved with fractint at
800x600.
>>Don't you have to recalc at 800x600?
If you generate an image at 1600x1200 and - after the image is complete -=
save it at 1600x1200 you can load it again using just 1/4 of the size wit=
h
800x600 and fractint will use it as rendered at 800x600. =
That won't work with phc-images.
Cheers --Jo--
Here is the original entry, which works fine with my copy of fractint:

Subject: (fractint) Dragon Quest
Hi,
I'm fascinated by the humble Dragon Curve, but the version in Fractint doesn't
draw as a continuous curve, which is really what I really want to see. Also,
I'd like to see it in, say, order 30 - which is beyond the resolution of even
2048 x 2048. Anyone out there know of a programme for producing it in a much
larger screen size - 10k x 15 k pixels, for example, mono obviously, one
continous curve, as a bitmap or vector (e.g. eps)? I'm not very well-versed
in programming from scratch... I have a PC of considerable power, though.s
Many thanks

Subject: (fractint) Fun with Orchids
This was fun to watch take form on my screen. I like my fractals (the ones
I keep) to remind me of something I might see in the world around me. This
one is the result of nurturing a par that hinted at orchids. With each
shift of P1, P2, or P3 it gets closer to my idea of what an orchid is.
(There are plenty more orchids in the P1:P2:P3-space nearby.)
If I find a flower in a fractal, I like to see if I can make it more like
nature. When I get a flower that allows me to color the flower and
background foliage separately, I'm even more pleased. This series of
flowers goes far beyond that, the sense of depth expressed by the color map
is inherent in the formula.
The color map for Orchid6 is Damien2.map. It fit perfectly, no rotation, no
tweaks. Could not be more perfect. Damien, did this map come from another
flower fractal? The fade from green into black is what makes this work.
Orchids10 is a first, small step toward developing another color map to get
closer to the flower I see hanging in the dark shade hidden in the jungle.
(I _should_ wait until I get his map just right, but I have _got_ to share
this with the group. It is way too much fun to watch this develop. Enjoy.)

I've often seen this when I was trying to understand how to find
interesting places by zooming out in other artists' deep zooms.
The problem is due to the rotation (-77.5 degrees in the original par).=
=
In your par, the rotation angle is -80 degrees (not too bad), but the X
Magnification Factor (1.1782) and the skew angle (0.738) are incorrect.
Keeping only the first three parameters of the center-mag=3D section
(center coordinates and mag factor) will solve your problem.

Subject: (fractint) Deep Mandel Zoom
Hi, Everyone--
Here's another deep (1.82e+29) zoom par. Note the calculation time.
Heh, heh, heh...
This one's a zoom into my "Pinwheel2" image, using passes = "1" instead
of passes =
"t". What shows up as a black lake with "t" becomes interesting detail
using "1".
I'm in the process of regenerating "Pinwheel2" - should be about 5 more
days...
Does Fractint run on a Cray?
I've posted the image, in all its 1024 X 768 splendor (That's the most
"splendor"
my old P60 can manage <G>), on my Fractint site:
http://members.xoom.com/PaulDeCelle/gallery7.html
Enjoy!

Greetings all.
Anyone seen the cover of the above?
Although clearly fractal in nature, and quite a nice one at that, it is
actually bacillus subtilis growing in soft agar with food dye added. It
never ceases to amaze me where these patterns turn up.
Quick question to those in the know...
Has a program ever been written to extract from completed Fractint GIF files
all the data that shows on the X, Y, Z & Tab screens?
Thanks in advance,
Wayne

Yeah. You can download version 19.6 of it for free from
http://spanky.triumf.ca/www/fractint/fractint.html ;-)

comment { ramblings by Mark "Bud" Christenson 11/18/98
I had a fractal fling last evening, this image being the sole
finished product.
I've been flipping functions with this same set of parameters,
and keep finding the coolest stuff. Discovering interesting
shapes with Sylvie's formulas is like falling off a log; creating
the right palette sometimes takes longer. I spent about an
hour refining this one, although it looked good with a number
of solutions along the way.
BTW, I still think the title needs work. Suggestions welcome.
Aloha, Bud

Subject: (fractint) New FOTW and Major Site Overhaul!
There has been a major overhaul of my site as well as the posting of this
week's FOTW. The FOTW is slightly delayed because of the overhaul. Some
things are under construction, but not the FOTW. There are no new Microsoft
Rants today but some were added Monday.
Please have a look throughout the site and inform me of any missing images
or broken links that might have been caused accidentally during the
overhaul. Feedback is essential for me to maintain a quality site! Thank
you for your appreciation.

Subject: AW: (fractint) October Scientific American Cover
I think Wayne means to have something standalone that perhaps would work
as follows:
C:\Fractint\Gif\Extract *.gif Definitions.txt
>So the program extract.exe reads the gif files en puts all the data (X, Y, Z
& Tab screens) in a ascii file, perhaps sorted following the different
gif files.
Or am I missing some possible trick in fractint 19.6 ???
Best regards,
