  33. It's a good thing to have something you're really good at, where
  34. there's a beauty and a logic to it and you don't have to struggle to
  35. learn and it makes sense to you.  Most people are incredibly
  36. bad at this kind of thing, and it's easy to be frustrated with them,
  37. especially when they are in positions of power.  There are so
  38. many people who seem like total idiots to me and I endlessly try
  39. to deal with them or myself.  But people have all kinds of
  40. different things to offer.  Think of it this way- the thing that you're
  41. good at is something you can spend your time doing and make
  42. enough money to live on- lots of people have to do something
  43. they hate or are mediocre at for money.

  106. (Nevertheless, I am of the opinion that people that are bad at
  107. programming should not be releasing email software.  They probably also
  108. shouldn't try to teach how to program.)

  453. enough.  If a line spills over, break it with a "\" at the end of the

  499. I've been trying to learn to write formulas
  500. and this is kind of an odd side trip.  I've
  501. been putting different short simple formulas
  502. into the iteration portion of the coloring
  503. method formulas and wanted to try something
  504. besides gravijul. A couple of months ago
  505. R.Parracho (I think) posted a nice image from
  506. one of the built-in Barnsley formulas.  I had
  507. a couple of pars (Calm and Schizoid) based on this.
  508. The Fractint built-in formulas have a slightly
  509. different nomenclature when you press "z" but I
  510. thought the difference was simple.  When I wrote the
  511. Barnsley formula it came out different. (az1 to az4 ) It looks a
  512. lot like Les St.Clair's Basket Weave from Tent-in-Mod,
  513. I don't know *why* these look alike, this kind of *why*
  514. is probably the wrong question to ask.
  515.     Finally I put it into Spir_Stalks_Jul by Paul Carlson,
  516. world's most versatile formula.

  730. is because Mandelbrot's & Julia's are deep-zoomable, and the Mandelbrot set
  731. is infinitely more interesting than all the Julia sets combined, IMHO :)  I
  732. was *extremely* surprised to see that I actually got 2 votes for best
  733. overall, one on each of my fractals.  (Octobrot and Pulsar were mine, just
  734. to let you know <g>)  I had a question, though...  This is a comment I got

  743. I don't really want to know who wrote this, so much as who the author
  744. thought my fractal was by...  (I don't want to push it though..  If you'd
  745. rather not tell, I don't mind <g>)  I'd be *extremely* flattered if it was
  746. Damien or Wizzle or anyone else known for cool fractals.. :)  (Don't be
  747. upset if I didn't name you, they were just 2 people off the top of my
  748. head...)  To tell you the truth, the real reason I'm so surprised is that my
  749. entries weren't specifically designed for the contest.  I just picked them
  750. out from the heap of fractals I'd designed.  Octobrot was really my
  751. favorite, but Pulsar was nearly random...  I just scanned through a few
  752. until I saw one I liked.  If you really liked those, just let me know..
  753. I'll post more pars, or eventually, if I have time, I'll put the images on
  754. my web site.  Pulsar wasn't nearly as good as some others I've made.  I've
  755. been reluctant to post alot of pars, because almost all my images are deep
  756. zooms, and have taken a long time to draw.  Unfortunately, though, I haven't
  757. had time to play with fractals much lately, since I've just started college
  758. (FSU, I'm a freshman <g>) and getting adjusted has taken alot of time.
  759. Speaking of which, I need to get the A/C fixed in my apartment...  I guess
  760. I'll see y'all later!

  1224. Actually the Mandelbrot set is *exactly* as interesting as all the Julia

  1226. Benoit Mandelbrot discovered the set as a visual index to all the Julia
  1227. sets, and it is mathematically true that any small area of the
  1228. Mandelbrot set resembles a corresponding area of a corresponding Julia
  1229. set.  (Maybe some of the list members who were not so lazy as to give up
  1230. maths at the age of 22 can explain more.)
