  273. Here are a number of pars based on one home-brew formula of mine;
  274. bills_diff_delt1. This formula generates images where flat ribbons are =
  275. the
  276. main theme.

  278. I was able to put this collection together with the aid of a PERL scrip=
  279. t
  280. developed by Ken Childress. (Thanks a bunch Ken!) Originally I posted a=
  281.  
  282. request to the Fractint group for a utility to parse pars so that I cou=
  283. ld
  284. analyze sets of parameters such as fn1, fn2, etc. Ken answered my reque=
  285. st
  286. by posting the script and then coached me though installing PERL on my
  287. Win95 system.
  288.  
  289. It turned out that my first use of Ken?s tool was to sort my entire set=
  290.  of
  291. pars by formula. When I saw how many of the better pars were based on
  292. diff_delt1, I looked over the set and decided to send my choice of the =
  293. best
  294. ones out to the group. Some of these have been posted at my web site.
  295.  
  296. (The set of pars at the end of the list were developed over that last f=
  297. ew
  298. days. They have an Autumn tinge to them; frost, rust and gold colors.
  299. Perhaps they signal the return of crisp, cool days to here on the East
  300. Coast. I hope so.)

  746. Sound like screen corruption to me. Try invoking fractint with
  747. one of the following parameters :
  748.  
  749. fractint textsafe=3Dyes
  750. fractint textsafe=3Dbios
  751. fractint textsafe=3Dsave
  752.  
  753. One of those should do the trick. Then you can set it
  754. permanently in sstools.ini=20
  755.

  807. One neat thing about the Mandelbrot set is that it serves as a catalog of
  808. Julia sets.  More specifically, the nature of the Mandelbrot set in the
  809. neighborhood of a point c is similar to the nature of the Julia set for
  810. that parameter c.  For example, if c is inside one of the "lake" areas of
  811. the Mandelbrot set, then its Julia set will also have "lakes".  Or, if c
  812. is taken from outside the Mandelbrot set, then its Julia set will be a
  813. "dust":  comprised of isolated points in open space.  Points c exactly on
  814. the boundary of M will yield Julias that are "dendrites", that is, thin
  815. connected lines with no interior.  Examples of the 3 cases are c=0, c=1,
  816. and c=(0,1).  And I've probably made a technical mistake here, but the
  817. general gist is ok.  I think.
  818.  
  819. More pragmatically, to find neat Julia parameters, go zooming around the
  820. Mandelbrot set until you find a spot that you like.  If it's a specific
  821. point, put that in the center of your zoom window.  Then, hit "z" and f6
  822. to bring up the "center-mag" coordinates of your current window.  The
  823. parameter of interest is listed as the center.  An easy way to get a point
  824. into the center of the window is to move your zoom box (without resizing)
  825. so that a corner (upper left, say) is right on the point you want.  Press
  826. return to start drawing the new image.  Then, immediately get a new zoom
  827. box, again without resizing.  Move the zoom box as far to the same
  828. direction (up and left) as you can.  Fractint will only allow the zoom box

  1032. You can see this on a web page I've just put up containing some interesting images I made some time ago while
  1033. experimenting with an early prototype of the new fractint parameter evolver (not here yet, wait for v20... no I can't
  1034. say when..., OK soonish :-) )The images show a large number of tiny julia sets all placed on the screen such that their
  1035. centres correspond to the value of c used to calculate them, you can clearly see the relationship with the Mset.
