  147. Way off topic - but this day as I returned to attempt some wordie
  148. processing stuff, I found that for no reason one project refused to open
  149. w/WP8 claiming something about WP 6.0/6.1. In a way I can sympathize with
  150. the man who "lost" it, but I am not sure smashing my monitor would help in
  151. retrieving about a year's worth of work. Instead it is time to smile and
  152. figure out what happened, why, and prevent a recurrance. Explanations have
  153. not yet surfaced, but I did find a work around to retrieve the info...maybe
  154. I should have been fractaling - or else I have been spending to much time
  155. doing so...

  359. Strands was very clean and pleasing to the eye.  
  360. just a quickie question.  Do you make your maps from scratch every time?
  361.     
  362. Some background on the formula:
  363.     Fashioned after Runge_Kutta method for solving differential equations
  364. numerically
  365.     If you change the step size to .1 you will get an approximate solution to
  366. f'(x)=f(x+y)+c
  367.     This formula relies on setting the step size large enough to make the
  368. solution unstable
  369.     The number of iterations is critical to reproducing an image
  370. With these in mind I reloaded my Square_Runge par and some quick corrections
  371. are needed.
  372.     you must see it at 256 color. Sorry its much better in SF5 (why doesn't  save
  373. my video mode?)
  374.     you must set the iterations to 150. (doesn't save my iteration count either)
  375. I'll try to make this par come out right.

  404. barely started playing with them, but I thought I'd share some
  405. results so far.  In each of the three pars below I've zoomed into
  406. one of the images produced by your pars (using different bailout
  407. criteria and colormaps, but using your formulas unchanged).

  409. Note:  The small circle at the center of the spiral in the image
  410. produced by the pc_strange_halley par will disappear if the

  767. If you have an sstools.ini file in your Fractint folder, then in the
  768. [FRACTINT] section add this line   video=sf5   . Then, whenever you
  769. enter the program the video mode will automatically load for you. If you
  770. don't have an sstools.file then either create one using the edit command
  771. in DOS or WordPad in WIndows and type [FRACTINT} on line one and
  772. video=sf5 on line two. You can add other lines to this section later, if
  773. you wish, lines telling Fractint where to find files, save, files, and
  774. other things that can make life easier while using Fractint. If you have
  775. further questions about the sstools.ini file don't hestitate to ask us
  776. here.

  841. text-formatting system, this never happens, because the text is very
  842. simple from the text-editor's point of view, and any crash cases get
  843. worked out in the first couple of months.  If you crash the batch
  844. formatter, you can still edit the text document to work around the
  845. bug.

  869. Yesterday my keyboard croaked, so we bought a new one.  It's a Microsoft
  870. Natural Keyboard - a little different from the last one, but it is a
  871. Microsoft product and should work in Windows and MS-DOS without any
  872. problem.  But there is a problem.
  873.  
  874. When I am in Fractint, I can't rotate my zoom box.  Ctrl pad + and Ctrl
  875. pad - have no effect at all.  I can zoom in, and I can skew, squash and
  876. stretch, but I can't rotate.
  877.  
  878. Also, I can't run Partobat.  When I key "partobat" at the d:\fractint
  879. prompt, it says "sorting . . ." and then freezes.  My keyboard freezes,
  880. too.  Even Ctrl-Alt-Del doesn't work,  I have to turn off the computer
  881. and turn it back on again.
  882.  
  883. Needless to say, I'm frustrated!  Any and all suggestions will be
  884. appreciated!  When I can get it too work right again, I'll post another
  885. formula and new pars and new colormaps.  So please toss suggestions my
  886. way!

  1083. Of course it is difficult to pick one favorite from so many excellent
  1084. formulas, if I were pressed to do so I would pick Zf_Ang. For one thing,
  1085. it appears to be easier here to find workable julia coordinates, for
  1086. another, it has that versatile user definable function, which works
  1087. wonders even with, or I am tempted to say especially with, such
  1088. unexpected functions as trunc, round, ceil, and floor. Great formula. I
  1089. hope that the pars below live up to it.
