Don't worry, it also tries to replace "uncomputable" with "incompatible" :-D

Way off topic - but this day as I returned to attempt some wordie
processing stuff, I found that for no reason one project refused to open
w/WP8 claiming something about WP 6.0/6.1. In a way I can sympathize with
the man who "lost" it, but I am not sure smashing my monitor would help in
retrieving about a year's worth of work. Instead it is time to smile and
figure out what happened, why, and prevent a recurrance. Explanations have
not yet surfaced, but I did find a work around to retrieve the info...maybe
I should have been fractaling - or else I have been spending to much time
doing so...

earlier today. They are gorgeous!

Subject: (fractint) Runge pars
Mr. Carlson
Strands was very clean and pleasing to the eye.
just a quickie question. Do you make your maps from scratch every time?
Some background on the formula:
Fashioned after Runge_Kutta method for solving differential equations
numerically
If you change the step size to .1 you will get an approximate solution to
f'(x)=f(x+y)+c
This formula relies on setting the step size large enough to make the
solution unstable
The number of iterations is critical to reproducing an image
With these in mind I reloaded my Square_Runge par and some quick corrections
are needed.
you must see it at 256 color. Sorry its much better in SF5 (why doesn't save
my video mode?)
you must set the iterations to 150. (doesn't save my iteration count either)
I'll try to make this par come out right.
Cos_Runge { ; RSP 23MAY98 iterations was at 256

Subject: Re: (fractint) QUICKIE PAR AND FRM
Hi R Parracho (what does the R stand for?),
These formulas produce some very interesting images! I've just
barely started playing with them, but I thought I'd share some
results so far. In each of the three pars below I've zoomed into
one of the images produced by your pars (using different bailout
criteria and colormaps, but using your formulas unchanged).
Note: The small circle at the center of the spiral in the image
produced by the pc_strange_halley par will disappear if the
line
.001<=|f|}
in the rsp_3170 formula is changed to
.00000001<=|f|}
However, this will also change the size of the elements in the
image.

No, I very seldom make a colormap from scratch. Most of the
colormaps I use I made years ago. The rendering methods I usually
use are designed to color the images automatically using these
colormaps.

Your par has both the iterations and the video mode in it (but the
iterations is set to 75, not 150):

Hmmm..... I know different versions, including:
And God said:
div D = (rho)
rot E = dB/dt
div B = 0
rot H = dD/dt + i
d(rho)/dt + div i = 0
where i,D,E,B,H are vectors
the following could be added:
D = (epsilon) E
B = (mu) H
F = (rho) ( E + v x B)
v,F vectors, x being the symbol for external vector multiplication
etc.

If you have an sstools.ini file in your Fractint folder, then in the
[FRACTINT] section add this line video=sf5 . Then, whenever you
enter the program the video mode will automatically load for you. If you
don't have an sstools.file then either create one using the edit command
in DOS or WordPad in WIndows and type [FRACTINT} on line one and
video=sf5 on line two. You can add other lines to this section later, if
you wish, lines telling Fractint where to find files, save, files, and
other things that can make life easier while using Fractint. If you have
further questions about the sstools.ini file don't hestitate to ask us
here.

Thank goodness!
<jihad>
I should point out that when one works with a text editor and a batch
text-formatting system, this never happens, because the text is very
simple from the text-editor's point of view, and any crash cases get
worked out in the first couple of months. If you crash the batch
formatter, you can still edit the text document to work around the
bug.
Plus, you get nicer documents with less effort (if the batch formater
is LaTeX or Scribe).

Subject: (fractint) Problem with DOS/Fractint - Help!
Hi, all-
Yesterday my keyboard croaked, so we bought a new one. It's a Microsoft
Natural Keyboard - a little different from the last one, but it is a
Microsoft product and should work in Windows and MS-DOS without any
problem. But there is a problem.
When I am in Fractint, I can't rotate my zoom box. Ctrl pad + and Ctrl
pad - have no effect at all. I can zoom in, and I can skew, squash and
stretch, but I can't rotate.
Also, I can't run Partobat. When I key "partobat" at the d:\fractint
prompt, it says "sorting . . ." and then freezes. My keyboard freezes,
too. Even Ctrl-Alt-Del doesn't work, I have to turn off the computer
and turn it back on again.
Needless to say, I'm frustrated! Any and all suggestions will be
appreciated! When I can get it too work right again, I'll post another
formula and new pars and new colormaps. So please toss suggestions my
way!
Thanks,
Linda

First things first I should think. Can you borrow another MS compatible
keyboard, plug it in, and try it? If it works fine, then the problem would
be a faulty keyboard (needs to be returned). If the borrowed one has the
same problems, then something else needs to be done...

Jihad means exerting one's utmost power contending with an
object of disapprobation, and this is of three kinds, namely,
(1) with a visible enemy, (2) with Satan, and (3) with one's
self.
I was warning readers that what was enclosed within the jihad and
end-jihad tags constituted an effort in a jihad -- for better software
and use of computers.

Subject: (fractint) PAR: more Carlson frm pars
Paul,
Of course it is difficult to pick one favorite from so many excellent
formulas, if I were pressed to do so I would pick Zf_Ang. For one thing,
it appears to be easier here to find workable julia coordinates, for
another, it has that versatile user definable function, which works
wonders even with, or I am tempted to say especially with, such
unexpected functions as trunc, round, ceil, and floor. Great formula. I
hope that the pars below live up to it.
Gedeon
