SKarl,
- One thing is always the same in the subject line.
- (fractint)
That's because the mailing list software (Majordomo) puts it there if it
isn't already present. If you put something between the t and ) then
Majordomo won't see that as (fractint) and it will just insert (fractint)
back into the subject line.
If you want to put something on the subject line, it's going to have to be
outside the (fractint) part.

Subject: (fractint) time consumption
Here's an idea- I am spending a huge amount of time cutting
and pasting pars and correcting the little errors. So is everyone
else. I don't want to wait for the end of the month to download
it from Les's site (Thanks for doing that, Les!) because I like to see
what
people have done and said in response to other people's work.
What if a number of people who are adept at editing the pars took
turns collecting them and posting them every few days? I tend to save
them and do them every few 4 or 5 days anyway. The only problem
I can see with that is then you'd have a large frm file and large
par file under a date rather than under individual names and you would
have to index it in some way to find things later.
As much as it seems there are a very large number of postings to
this list, in fact I can skim through and delete lots of messages very
quickly. It's getting it into Fractint that takes the time.

To the Kind & Merciful,
I know it has been posted, probably a couple of times, but I have
just spent at least a half hour sorting through a mountain of papers trying
to find where I put it. And that is, how to get that MIRC program that
allows you to chat.
If anybody can post it again for me, I'd appreciate it - but ask
that you use dunderhead terminology, nothing technical and nothing that
presumes I know anything about 'bring up this- or that" (beyond watching our
puppy throw-up after getting up on the table and finishing off a bag of
potato chips).
Thanks in advance.

Subject: (fractint) Spirals Formula
I've always been fascinated by spirals. Spirals have been used
as religious symbols back to the dawn of humankind. Spirals
occur frequently both in nature and in fractals. In nature,
spirals occur whenever growth must take place in a limited space.
In fractals, they also occur where space is limited.

This formula applies my Truncated 3D Stalks rendering method

are very different from one another. Enjoy!

Ok...first off, you can download it at www.mirc.com .
Now...when you run the program, login to the server us.undernet.org . When
you are on that server, a dialogue box will pop up asking you what channel
you want. This box will also have a section to store your favorite
channels, with quite a few chans already stored in. You can add or delete
whatever you like. We will be in #fractals , I think. I also suggest you
stop by #mirchelp if you ever need help learning the program(or ask me :-))
Have fun! IRC is almost as addicting as fractint!

Please use what saves as a filename in DOS!
These emails I save straight to disk with the subject
automatically becoming the filename. Then I can sort
them in File Explorer and process in some way. Now
if you put colons and such in there as significant
symbols, they disappear when saving.
Besides, the (fractint) is put on by the server, so how
would we post? Looks like I would post a par file like
this (for the title)
par Neato fractal I just found
then it would show up as
(fractint)par Neato fractal I just found
which would work and follow up as
Re: (fractint)par Neato fractal I just found
which we would have to edit out the par before reply
like this
Re: (fractint) Neato fractal I just found
unless we added in a new par in reply but then someone
would think we just forgot to delete the 'par' part.
Oh my, I'm beginning to feel like that guy I posted about
in the 388kB mpeg file....

It isn't a bad idea, but I hate to ask folks to do that. I think it's very,
VERY nice of Les to collect them for us, and it's wonderfly useful for me-
makes it much easier to learn fractint using old collections from past
months.
I do agree though, at the end of the month I can never remember what went
with what. Les, I wonder if you'd be able to link to the proper posts in
the archives(perhaps as a comment, or in the index)? It's very nice to
reread the origional post- and see how this particular image was made. I
think I'd learn a lot from this!
For now, I'm sort of giving up on checking out pars as they come out. I
just can't keep up w/ you guys lol. I'll sort try out one or two a day that
sound cool, and wait for the monthly motherload...
BTW, just so I don't sound like the laziest guy on the planet...I'm
disabled(muscular dystrophe). I get very tired very quickly, and certain
things on the computer do exhaust me. Any time I need to use the mouse and
keyboard at once(like pasting in pars)... Thank you all for understanding.

in less time. And since the program in my head filters perfectly, I don't have
to re-sort cause the old algorithm put stuff in the wrong folder.

Let's go a step farther toward simplicity, and include PAR in all caps in the
subject line of any message that has *either* PARs and Formulas in it. There's
no need at this point in separating them. Then anyone who cares and has a
sorting mail client can sort the PAR messages to a different place.
Of course whether you actually use the header to sort your list in this way is up
to you.
Everybody have it? Include PAR in the subject of messages that have FRMs or
PARs.

Subject: RE: (fractint) MISC: Subject line protocol
Some mail readers are real anal (like outlook 98) and dont let you make =
2 separate rules... Well, I mean, I'm trying to make it so that messages =
with ONLY '(fractint)' in the subject to one folder, and messages with =
'(fractint)' and 'PAR' to another, but the problem is, you only have one =
space for the subject entry, so I have to put '(fractint) PAR' or =
whatever, but it HAS to have exactly that, one space, same order, and =
everything. Not '(fractint) Blah blah blah PAR'. That won't work. I =
suggest the standard be something more elaborate (to help out the idiots =
like me :) who use OL98) such as '(fractint)PAR' (i.e. one word) so as =
not to be confused by OL98 or any other emailers, yet still pass by =
majordomo untouched. (That would mean you'd have to manually type in =
'(fractint)' though...)

Yeah, but I'm the all powerful List Czar. As the Umpire says, "It ain't a strike
until I call it." :-)
I'm sure the "PAR in headers" proposal won't work for everyone, but I know it
will work for Pegasus.

A suggested mod: since I use Pegasus, I already have a filter in
place for 'fractint' in the subject, so how about replacing 'PAR'
with 'FPAR' (for Fractint Par). This could then be a separate filter
applied before 'fractint', and would be unlikely to occur in mail
from any other list (I subscribe to a couple of others).

Pegasus Mail's filtering runs rings around Eudora Pro's -
and it's free. <G>

Terrible. On my monitor, i have to go to about two inches from the screen to
see the difference between (fractint) (no pars/frms) and (fractint:) (frm

Of course I don't know what e-mail reader you use, but e-mail programs like
Outlook Express offer the ability to split your inbox in different
mailboxes. I personally use 15 inboxes (Including fractint, fractdev and
fractal-art) to keep some order.
