  28. "==" is a comparison operator, like > and <, and means "is equal". If the
  29. real components of the arguments are equal, the expression evaluates to

  34. of each pixel. If you think of the pixels on the screen as a giant checker
  35. board, whitesq will be (1,0) for the white squares and (0,0) for the black

  201. This newbie has seen much spiral inputs recently, and a "magic garden".  He
  202. was tempted, therefore, to make a first attempt at assembling and posting
  203. fractals to the list.  These efforts explore an old "lambda sin" spiral
  204. from near its initial opening, through a jeweled center portion, to finally
  205. reach the "light at the end of the tunnel".
  206. These are more a feasibility study than an art form, but, nevertheless, have
  207. a certain colorful attractiveness, I believe.  Comments are very welcome,
  208. I'm not quite sure what I'm doing, or how I did it!

  688. Thank you for your comments, and for the color map which you applied, it's
  689. great!  I'll try to see where those missing "\"s were supposed to be.  This
  690. was
  691. probably the result my unfamiliarity with the editor I used.  I saw the rave
  692. reviews
  693. here for PFE.  I looked at it and it *did* appear to be an improvement on
  694. "NotesPad".  However, I had a problem with line wrapping, and adjusted the
  695. line lengths manually.  I must have chopped a few characters off   :-)
  696.

  776. Is this the entire PAR?  I'd like to run a copy for myself.  Ican't
  777. afford the time right now to download this GIF file.  I started to but
  778. it's almost a meg in size and wanted more time than I have to spare
  779. right now. 8-<  I'm working 3rd shift and can't spend as much time on
  780. line as I have at least until I get used to it.  My ISP has a standing

  820. interface, excellent documentation and is well supported on the net both via
  821. groups like these and via pages devoted to getting people started. I taught
  822. myself Fractint about a year ago and I am neither a programmer nor a
  823. mathematician.

  979. e-mail. I've been using WordPad all the while. Now when I cut and paste
  980. from a Fractint par file into WordPad, I set the page width at Print
  981. Setup to about 4 inches. I still have to manually place the \'s for ends
  982. of color lines, but there's less work now than in the past when I had
  983. the page width set to 7 inches.

  1042. I have an HP 870, but the following general tips should apply to any
  1043. printer:

  1045. I use PaintShop Pro to print. It easily allows you to resize the image,
  1046. move it around on the page, change colors, brightness, etc. If your fractal
  1047. is too dark or too light, try changing the gamma setting (select Colors -->
  1048. Adjust --> Gamma Correction...).
  1049.  
  1050. For best quality, use the highest quality glossy paper from Epson
  1051. (expensive but worth it). Kodak also makes a 'photo-weight' glossy paper
  1052. for inkjet printers. Some people say it is the best paper you can buy, but
  1053. I don't notice much difference between it and the HP glossy on my printer.
  1054. Be sure to tell your printer driver to print 'best quality' and tell it
  1055. which paper you are using.
  1056.  
  1057. To avoid wasting an entire sheet of good paper, I first do a 2 inch by 3
  1058. inch print on regular paper to check the brightness and colors.
  1059.  
  1060. For a full-page print, create your fractal at 1600x1200 or even higher.
  1061. Anything smaller will look pixelated.
  1062.  
  1063. Don't touch the print for a minute or two because the ink may still be wet.
  1064.
