Subject: (fractint) January Par collection!
Hi everyone,
If you're interested in a compilation par of all the postings to this lis=
t
for January '98, you can get it from my web site at:
http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/Les_StClair/
There are parameters for 357 images, plus all the formulas and an index
listing the pars by date and by artist.
The whole bunch is zipped into a handy 73Kb file.
If, by any chance, I missed one of your pars then drop me a line and I wi=
ll
make the necessary corrections.
cheers, Les

I agree wholeheartedly! In pars, user-defined formulas should be included in
the frm:format whenever possible.
I know that some formulas are long, due to extensive (but always welcome!)
comments, and some cutting/pasting might be needed to stick them into a par.
But many people on this extensive list who are either new to Fractint, haven't
yet downloaded recently posted formulas, or don't have time to download every
formula, may not see a given par as a fractal unless its formula is included!

It'd sure be nice, but it hasn't yet been accomplished... a thought I had was
that maybe there is a way to rewrite the formula so that it would be more
complex but allow you to enter screen coordinates as shorter numbers, thereby
alowing for faster computation... probably similar to what you were thinking.
But if there is a way to rewrite the Mset formula using trig/calc, or so that
deep zooms don't require the multiplication of very large numbers, I sure don't
know what it might be.
Good question, though, Jason

Is there an algorithm in use that calculates from depth=n to maxIts?

Hi guys,
Zooming in with fast draws? Depends, it is not as bad as you say, Jason.
I just got an email from Dr. J in fractal space. Very poor typing so I could
only barely make out what he says. Something about zero iterations inside
the Mandelbrot set. I would think there are some calculations involved. :-)
I'll keep bugging him about this. To see why he can't send nice email,
check out the latest here...
http://home.san.rr.com/jayrhill/FotN/FotN33.html
Also, I have started on the iFAQ (inFrequently Asked Questions) here...
http://home.san.rr.com/jayrhill/iFAQ/iFAQ.html
I have sorted out candidates for inclusion in iFAQ. A total of more than 800k
of email text. Trimming the headers of might get it down to 700k. So far, that
is way too much. I'll sort it into some questions and topics. Then I can
get some feedback. In the mean time, please feel free to send your
suggestions to me at mailto:ehill1@san.rr.com
Stay healthy,
Jay

The colour/palett problems come from 15/16/24/32 bit displays, as well
as the drawing artefacts.
The size can only be preselected with the -gemoetry <width>x<height>
option. With 'v' I think you can make the image smaller, but not the
window.
May the Source be with you.

It is probably easier to port Xfract instead of DOS Fractint, I'd guess,
since xfract is probably built around 32-bit flat memory anyways.

Yes... and no. The problem is that you'd have to get around that
windowing stuff. Unless, that is, there's a direct way to translate
X windows into Microsoft windows.
If only there were an SVGALib Fractint... That would be the easiest of
all to port! Unfortunately, there isn't one. :(

By group consensus, we generally only discuss something when we know what
the heck it means. :-)
You may wish to rephrase your query so it's more intelligible to
non-telepaths. (The telepaths will have given you their answer, but not by
the mailing list...)

This can be avoided by copying his formula and pasting it into a new email
to the list. If that doesn't work, maybe Paul could send his stuff for
posting to me as it's easier for me to do the cut and paste job than edit a
long formula. And thanks to Paul for another winner

Subject: (fractint) New release of formula compilation
Friends,
An updated "orgform" formula compilation of Fractint formulas is available
as "orgfrm.zip" at the Spanky site:
http://spanky.triumf.ca/www/fractint/fractint.html
The compilation was done at 1/29/98 and has just under 8500 formulas. Thanks
to Les StClair, Kerry Mitchell, and others who made suggestions and sent me
formulas that I didn't have.
Many of the new formulas since the last compilation were found in messages
to this group and Jon Noring's Fractal-Art message list. I encourage
authors to check out their formulas in the compilation to make sure they
are presented as you wish them. As always, suggestions and comments are
welcome.

be this:
I was just mucking around... I should probably get off my lazy butt and read
the formulas tutorial. They _did_ work at one point, but then Fractint
crashed and now they don't. I think I'll call it a bug. :)
