This experience really soured us on Number Nine...

It is an outrage that Number Nine will not support their perfectly
good (slighty old) products. That really torks me off. I mean, my
card is only 1 yr 8 months old (purchase date) and it is rendered
obsolete...
This is the card that I have.

Ok, the above is for background - in a sense. This particular computer that
I am currently using is equipped with a Pentium 200MHZ/MMX 6gig hd/48MEGs
RAM, running Win95. I have been having a bit of trouble with this one since
obtaining it: when initiating Eudora Pro, this thing will reboot about 75%
of the time. In some applications which are video intensive the image
conatins randomized black rectangles wiping out that portion of the image
each rectangle being about 1/2" x 1 1/4"
It has been suggested that there may be a memory configuration problem. On
seeing the above message in its entirity when it was posted it occurred to
me that the video card may be causing these problems: I have a #9GXE64
video card currently installed - which is the linkage to the above message.
Question(s):
1.Could the video card be causing these problems?
2.Any recommendations for a video card replacement?
Secondarily: Not long ago I posted a fractal to a.b.p.f titled "Embossed" -
this prior to Paul Carlson's nicely done embossed fractals. The reason I
named it such was that it was the result of a lot of zooming in and was the
final product. The file size was a bit over 1 Meg in size (I had mentioned
this prior to posting it - even inquired concerning that large of a file)
Recently I inserted that fractal into Paint Shop Pro, tinkered with it, did
an "undo" reverting to original image, (I think) and saved it to the
desktop giving me two of these fractals - same image. Except the new one,
_no_ difference in dimensions (1024 x 728 x 256) or appearance that I could
discern had a file size of ~ 300k which obviously was a bit more reasonable.
Question: wha????? Could someone give an explanation for the above? Is
there any possibility, however remote, that the video card could have
played a role in that?
TIA - and please direct flames for the above to the radio station of your
choice...

At this point I'm just tossing the idea around in my head. Maybe I'll
hack the autozoom algorithm as a replacement for XaoS' autopilot. Not
really sure yet :). My problem has always been that I have too many
ideas and not enough time to implement them properly...

I haven't thought of anything that would do this well for M. My only
ideas for how to make a program that creates 'novel scenery' is similar
to the evolver code that will be in the next release of fractint.

David E. Shanholtzer and Paul Carlson have been writing about one or more
"Embossed" images that were posted to a.b.p.f. Although I did see
references
to these there, the images never showed up on my server. I did not see them
in
the archive sites. Is there any web page showing these images? Could
someone
post the exact URL?
Thanks.
