"Puff the Magic Dragon" was =), but I just looked up the lyrics above and I
can't see any herbal essence to it.
I should respond to Alan's comments, but they're so long! (I will, later.)

Are you sure you're not thinking of La Cucaracha?
Who sang a version of Guantanamera called "One Ton Tomata" as in "One ton tomata/I ate a one ton tomata/one ton tommmmmata/I ate a one ton tomata"?
lousmith@pipeline.com
La Cucaracha http://www.cs.ut.ee/~gordon/varia/lyrics/cucaracha.html
Strangely translated by Google.com:
La Cucaracha, la cucaracha,
ya no puede caminar,
porque no tiene, porque le falta,
marihuana que fumar.
The Cockroach
The Cockroach, the cockroach,
no longer it can walk,
because it does not have, because him lack,
marijuana that to smoke.
The carrancistas already go away,
they already go away by the wire,
because the Pancho Villa supporters say,
that estam dying of hunger.
Poor man of the Cockroach,
complaint with deception,
of not using ironed clothes,
by the coal shortage.
The Cockroach, the Cockroach, etc.
Pobrecito de Madero,
all have almost failed to him,
Orchard ebrio brigand,
it is an ox for the plow.
The clothes without starch,
all the days are put;
and without those boberias,
melon imagines to me.
The Cockroach, the Cockroach, etc.
With the beards of Forey,
I am going to do vaquerillo,
pß to put it to it to the horse
of brave Don Porfirio.
The one that persevera reaches,
it says a true saying,
I what I want it is revenge,
by the death of Log.
The Cockroach, the Cockroach, etc.
For sarapes Forecastle,
Chihuahua for soldiers;
for women, Jalisco,
in order to love, toditos sides.
A baker went to mass,
not having to say,
him pidio to the pure virgin,
to the granddaughter of Don Juan.
The Cockroach, the Cockroach, etc.
All fight the chair
that it leaves much silver them;
in the North Pancho Villa
and in the South Alive Zapata!
A thing gives laughter me:
Pancho Villa without jacket,
another thing gives horror me,
to the vile Orchard in nightgown.
The Cockroach, the Cockroach, etc.
Now it eats his salad,
verdolaga and quintonil,
because it does not have money
in order to buy melapil.
Also suprimio the oil lamp
of I refuel that tapeworm,
and everything is suprmiendo
by horrible carestia.
The Cockroach, the Cockroach, etc.
I need algun " fortingo "
in order to make the long walk,
to the place where mado
to the convention, Zapata.
Before so single to Gambrinus
it was watched to him to arrive,
but or that this repobre

The Cockroach, the Cockroach, etc.
In the mine everything shines
due to its minerals,
already murio Francisco Villa:
general of generals.
One guacamaya dot

It has that robs much,
and soon they flee very far,

and of which they create to us they pen... itnetes.
There are others remove to us

Already murio the Cockroach
they already take it to bury,
between four buzzards
and a mouse of scristan.

Subject: (exotica) jewel box alternatives
I've filled something like 12 CD binders by now and I still have many more CDs that I'd like to remove from their jewel box prisons. Not everything I have needs to be in a binder, so I'm considering a "sleeve" alternative. Has anyone had any experience with jazzloft's sleeves? They look like a reasonably priced way to go.

Space-Saving CD Sleeves
If you're running out of space for your CD collection, consider getting rid of the space hogging jewel box and replacing them with these gatefold sleeves. These clear 4mil thick sleeves hold both the front cover and back graphics to create an LP-like gatefold. They take up 75% less space than the jewel box. The spine even shows, much like an LP. Though not required, paper liner sleeves are available.
Our price is only $12.99 per 100 sleeves

I sent for a sample two years ago and I couldn't get the spine to show just
right, at least not to my satisfaction.
There's this too, which I like:
http://www.jewelsleeve.com
The sleeve lets you keep everything except the jewel case. Now all you'll
need is a nice box to keep 'em in (they don't fit in CD shelves, and you'll
need to flip through them).
I'm currently going the binder route (CaseLogic's nylon binders), but it
gets difficult because I can't have binders for every category. For
instance, I have a "groove" binder and an "exotica" binder, but then I get a
CD that's a groovy exotica soundtrack, and I end up agonizing for about half
a minute wondering where it's going to go. =)

2 suggestions:
1) just put them into the binder in the order you get them. More challenging
for your memory....
2) melt everything down to mp3....nah, too much time and not as good.
'Sides, isn't microshaft coming out with a newer shinier codec?
I've been fooling around with 'WhereIsIt' a (shareware) cataloging
program, you might want to check it out at:

Subject: (exotica) James Last and beautiful instrumentals
At 05:07 PM 5/31/01 +0200, Moritz R wrote:
>oops... Voodoo Party is definitely the best J.L., but 15 pounds? I
wouldn't pay so much. I think it's an OK album, but not much more.
Don't judge a record by its price. I've seen Voodoo Party going for as
much as fifty bucks (Canadian). I sold my copy for about ten bucks to a
store that put it out at about twenty five. I kind of wonder if it would
be so sought after if it weren't for the fact that it was made by an
otherwise mediocre artist. In my opinion.
Which brings me to the question. How can people like James Last so much?
I'm talking about people on that other list. I feel a bit rude asking
this question but you can't breathe a hint of doubt about him there.
By the way, if anyone wonders why they call James Last "Hansi", it's
because his real name is Hans Warner and yes indeedy, he's Kai Warner's
brother.
I wonder if growing up, their father instructed them "Just sing the melody.
Nothing else" and cracked them on the knuckles if they tried to bring
their own ideas to the tune.
Yesterday I bought a comic put out by a Christian organization in the
seventies, called "Hansi, the girl who loved the Swastika". It's about a
girl who learns her lesson and turns her back on Hitler. I think half the
reason I bought it was to rebel against the James Last fanatics on that
other list.
Pretty immature eh?
If any of those fanatics are also on this list, I apologize. Sort of. But
I really really don't get it. I know I don't have to get it. And I know
that there are other artists with fanatical fans who would baffle me.
So far, it seems to me that as much as I would claim to love "beautiful
instrumentals", the people who hang out on the Beautiful Instrumentals list
love beautiful instrumentals for completely different reasons than me.
It just goes to show you. In the last couple of years, I've really come to
love a certain kind of lush, orchestrated thing. I love the sound of a big
string section, especially when they're playing quietly. But I usually
like it most if there's a lot going on. Leroy Holmes has some amazing
records. There's strings and wordless female choruses and all kinds of
other sounds buried deep and floating to the surface. Same with Paul
Mauriat. And Francis Lai on the records where he covers other tunes (like
McArthur's Park for instance.)
I did a CD for the exoticaring where I tried to demonstrate this taste.
But just because I love big string sections doing endless Bacharach covers
doesn't mean I want to hear the bland "Music of Candlelight and Wine" kind
of music that I grew up avoiding.
I know I'm tilting at windmills here but I guess a month or so lurking on
that other list has really gotten to me.
The word "beautiful" should have some meaning. You can't be beautiful and
bland at the same time. You can be beautiful and soft, beautiful and quiet,
beautiful and simple but beauty and blandness are enemies.
And I'm sorry but Hansi ain't beautiful.
I was staying on that other list for the same reason I watch American
political talk shows. I get some kind of charge out of watching Robert
Novak and Bob Barr and Tucker Carlson and George W.stomping all over ideas
I hold dear. I guess it was the same perversity kept me on that list.
But I am unsubscribing.
