I find audio player WinAmp to do the best job of all programs I've tried.
It's at www.winamp.com.
Once you have Winamp, just got to the main menu:
Options>Preferences>Output Plug-ins>Nullsofft Disc-writer
Now instead of playing mp3s it converts them to waves.

That comment was meant as a bit of a joke, however as you did ask my current

played Sax on Good Vibrations (as if you did not all know) and he does some
really good easy listening versions of Poet (from the Hells Angels on

It really is quite good, but probably not to everyones taste.

I found this today, uh for a dollar, full title Ping
Pang Pong: The Swinging Balls (ABC Paramount ABCS325),
orch. by Kenyon Hopkins with the Creed Taylor
Orchestra - generating "over 400 percussive sounds". I
have never heard of this, and, though I'm not sure if
it's anywhere near the equal of Panic, I anxious to
get it home.
And Sounds... Out of this World (Omega OSO1): a
stereophonic demo record featuring tracks from Chaino,
Dick Marx, and Paul Tanner's Music for Heavenly Bodies
(this is probably the closest I will come to getting
my hands on that one), etc.
Over the weekend I visited a local used record shop -
not much in the way of anything but country, 70's rock
and: EZ listening. The question I have is does anyone
have a strong opinion regarding Martin Denny In
Person? The guy wants 10 for it and it's in ok shape.
While I'm at it, he also had a copy of the Exotica
Suite, same price, decent shape. If anyone wants it,
let me know.

Subject: (exotica) What's with this "downbeat" mood?
Say what's up with the general mood here? Moritz's unsubscribing
really doesn't sit well with me. I have to say that I may certainly
have contributed to the wandering subject matter here but a lot has
to do with this being a "mature" list, not just in relative ages of
members but in duration of existence. Also, this is a list with a
very wide range of interests and a resource I enjoy both
contributing to and receiving from. So regarless of the subjects,
politics and commentaries, humourous or otherwise, I would not
want to see this list deteriorate, even if it does mean reading more
than I really want to know about ... recently dead people, tiki
culture or even...gulp Walter Wanderley (OK, I couldn't resist!)
But seriously, we host our own radio show for our listeners. Being
able to help get people out there exposed to new things they
otherwise may not have heard is our main reward. We certainly
aren't paid real money for it, we buy our own music, and we even
hire a babysitter for our 3 yr. old in order to do the show properly!
The things we buy and subsequently play on the show are very
much influenced by this list and we try to play things for the benefit
of both list members as well as local listeners.
Bottom line is I do hope Moritz reconsiders as meeting him through
this list is reason enough to justify my having joined it!

Here's my two cents about this "downbeat" mood and the recent departures from
the list: & please I am not saying this about anyone in particular, just
throwing this out as a thought:
It has been pointed out that some of the folks who have recently left the
list have moved to other lists which are more about current music, music
which samples exotica/lounge and such...
Is it possible some people have switched ranks because the fire they
originally felt for the type of music we discuss on this list has diminished?
To me this list is still as fun as ever. Lots of talk about records, and
plenty of humor....what more could one want?

I scored this truly one-of-a-kind recording over the weekend at KUSF's rock N
swap.
My CD-R trading pal Johan first told me about.
A beyond description, late 60s double LP with narration over groovy music by
Pastor John of the American Lutheran Church. Must be heard to be believed!
So I created a temporary site to share with you the cover and two MP3 samples
of two complete tracks. The Bob Crewe Generation's "Music To Watch Girls By"
and the Brass Ring's "Disadvantages Of You" are the featured segments, with
amazing spoken word on top. The kicker is the religious message at the end
of each and every track.
Each MP3 squeaks in under 1000kb and should download in five minutes or less,
depending on your speed.
Go here and enjoy!

good point, Larry. While I do listen to and buy more current [electronic]
music right now, it doesn't mean I still don't play, love, and seek out
releases in the exotica spectrum. Maybe it's because I prefer instrumental
music that I never got into the whole popnoveau thing that much. Maybe I've
analyzed it all a bit too much, but I feel there's a direct correlation
between the space age pop masters of the past and many of the electronic
based artists of today. Our goal in Combustible Edison was to bridge the
two, by first highlighting the past and then bringing into the
future/present. We are seeing now a new style, not based on rock or its
predecessors - blues, r&b, c&w, - but based on mood music and hip hop.
imho, I find it exciting.
The thing I enjoy about this list is seeing how many new people are
discovering the 'old' exotica/space/age/ez records and really enjoying them
(as well they should). I'm glad to share in the kind of joy of that
discovery. There's a finite list of whats out there for sure, but there's
still things that someone finds that you've never heard or run across
before. Or records you own that you haven't listened to in years, that you
go pull out from someone's posting of it.
cheers,
br. cleve

Hello. You may wish to respond to this post offlist if you wish. I'm a fan
of Com Ed and had the good fortune to see your band live several times, and
each time was a blast!
Am I correct that Com Ed is no more? If so what are each of you up to now?
I must admit that I am not familiar with your work prior to Com Ed, sorry. I
was a fan of Mike & Liz prior to Com Ed as I was a fan of their terrific rock
band Christmas. Hope everyone is still making music and is well and happy.

That is what I suspect. What is so bad about straying and talking about the
adnexa of the music we like?
Mo has always been a purist with this list and upset when it strayed from
just musical content discussion (unless he was bring up the non-musical
content himself - not trying to be insulting here, but it is true). And
others have been critical from time to time if someone posts an interesting
eBay item or some URL that is vaguely related to our discussions.
The idea that we should not discuss, for instance, the fine merits of CD
burning because it is not directly related to Exotica List music is
ridiculous. I mean that helps us enjoy and distribute our music, right?
There is plenty of discussion about music here and I am happy to have this
list as my one and only list.
And on that note, I know there are many on this list that are multiple lists
subscribers. With time constraints they probably don't want to read obits on
their "Music to Dust Beanie Babies List" so they may be impatient with seeing
those posts. But for those of us that only subscribe to one list, a little
variety is nice.
If these people are tired of our List for what ever reason, let them go, and
in piece. We will continue to chatter on and evolve.

Yup, that's it.
"Music from Outer Space" - 1962
And from a web page about LAX,
"December 18 [1996]- Los Angeles City Council designated the Theme Building
a cultural and historical monument. Built in 1961 as a symbol of futuristic
transportation at LAX, the Theme Building sits in the heart of the airport
passenger terminals. Its four parabolic arches rise 135 feet above the
ground over a central core that contains a cantilever restaurant and

A little airbrushing here and there and bingo! a spaceship. With GREAT

the magazine "Il Giaguaro"), nobody will be disappointed. Previously
unreleased tracks like Humanity and Il Giovane Normale by Armando
Trovajoli, the first one is a real shaker and the second is a pop-beat
track with singing in English. These tracks will take you straight to the
'Red Carpet' nightclub beneath the ruins of the magic city called ROMA.
It's an album to listen, to dance and to dream to.

Try downloading the program from www.cnet.com (go to its

Re: Werner Mueller - Hawaiian Swing
Hawaiian Swing is one of my favourite Werner Mueller releases and
Nat got it right about the Hawaiian Eye theme as the best piece! In
fact it was while visiting us that he first heard it... I know there are
a few more Mueller's which I don't have (Allan I think played one on
Mondo Bongos that was good?) but I have a lot more that are not
all that good, certainly none as strong as Hawaiian Swing.

If anywhere in North America Quebec would be the place to find it.
I haven't looked recently but... though most of the French music
here is local (Quebec produces an astounding amount of its own
music for such a small population - remember Celine Dion began
her career singing in French in Quebec). There's still a substantial
amount from France available here. Alain Delon's done a huge
number of films in France and the films themselves are broadast
regularly here, although in French. Most are crime dramas as this
is the character he is best known for and typically played.

Tell me about it! There's no fader either on our station's main board
so I have to sense what's coming as I mix things. I used to preview
endings/beginnnings for cues for each piece but it's simply too time
consuming. I'm starting to get good with my own intuition and I do
it on the fly these days. The studio players are at least pre-cued so
there's no startup pause. In actual fact I find the turntables are
worse in that there's a noticeable startup lag as the motor gets to
speed, even though they are direct drive! I can't justifty buying two
versions of everything anyway and normally opt for the CD over
vinyl, though vinyl is rarely offered anyway.

Subject: (exotica) "Now That's What I Call White Noise"
From today's issue of THE GUARDIAN
"Now That's What I Call White Noise"
written by Jonathan Romney
Raymond Scott is far more than a whimsical exotic to file away
condescendingly under 'Incredibly Strange Music.' His explorations occupied
a particular space at the juncture of commerce, science, and utopian
ideology, where avant-garde thought about sound met mainstream functionalism.
Listening to Raymond Scott's music now, you could almost believe he
invented just about everything electronic that followed. There are fleeting
premonitions of drum'n'bass, of dub reggae, of Stereolab, Devo, Pere Ubu;
there's even the keyboard riff of Stevie Wonder's 'Higher Ground' 12 years
before its day.
The real 2000 is nothing like the rocket-science utopia that Raymond
Scott imagined, but his music has somehow become very much the sound of now.
Some of this gee-whiz, frontier-spirit futurism is now being rediscovered by
artists such as Mouse on Mars, Add N to (X) and Appliance, electronica acts
either devising new gizmos or excavating the future dreams dormant in
obsolete technology.
The definitive proof of Raymond Scott's innovative imagination is now
available on Basta Records' elegantly packaged 2-CD set MANHATTAN RESEARCH
INC.

Yes, that's correct. The Millionaire is program director at
Luxuriamusic.com, which is the most fabulous website on the planet. I don't
believe that Miss Banquet is working in show biz currently, although she
has done vocalizing in hollywood movies from time to time. MIke is playing
jazz around the northeast, and Nick is studying sarod with Ali Akbar Khan.
Aaron writes code and I believe that Peter teaches.

I must admit I didn't think you meant it as a joke even though anyone who
said that seriously would have to be a bit unbalanced. I am glad to find
out that it was "a bit of a joke".
What other records like this do you have? Always like to hear about
records with easy listening versions of Good Vibrations as well as
Bacharach and Donovan.

I don't know about all the lists you refer to here but I've tried a couple
of them and remain on one of them but in my experience, none of them can
"replace" this one.
I'm on the Spectropop list but I can't imagine anyone actually "switching"
to that list. There's just not enough happening there. This list took a
certain genre of music and used it as a springboard to talk about many
other genres. This list widened its scope. Other lists I've been on, such
as Spectropop, are actually narrower in scope than they have to be.
(No offense to anyone on the Spectropop list but it should be renamed the
"Phil Spector" list. Or maybe "The Wrecking Crew" list.)
I was sorry to see Moritz go too.
But there are still people here who were here two years ago when I joined
so obviously it works well enough for some people.
The only thing that would make me leave - including a petition - would be
if I was too busy. Which could happen.
I'm not sure I would have left even if BJ had stayed forever.
But I'm glad she's gone.
