  46. I picked up Astro Sounds last nights and was pleasantly surprised. It is great
  47. from start to finish. On some of the tracks the string arrangements are
  48. downright daring. I had a hard time getting "Whiplash" out of my mind. (but then
  49. again that's my problem)
  50.  
  51. The cover reproduction was great, too. I only wish the liner notes were a little
  52. more informative. I noticed that Footlights, one of my favorite record stores
  53. was thanked in the liner notes. Any particular reason?
  54.  
  55. Here's another question... anybody out there trying to rerelease those early
  56. experimental Ferrante & Teicher albums? Scamp?

  67. I picked up a splendid Tomita cassette the other day - COSMOS. I don`t know how
  68. widely known it is but it features a version of the Star Wars theme which
  69. beggars belief - it breaks down halfway through into a whistling competition
  70. between two synths, kind of a mixture of a "Simon" game and a classical
  71. Duelling Banjos, and then when one synth makes a mistake the other one goes off
  72. into a long resonant-filter laughing fit and the main SW theme surges back in
  73. with a bubbling bassline. Then a whistling sound goes higher and higher and
  74. higher before dropping back down followed by a metal clunk and the sound of a
  75. hubcap or something spinning to rest. This is FANTASTIC music - just so many
  76. ideas thrown at you that you`re guaranteed to like some of them, if not all. If
  77. anybody wants a copy, let me know... I don`t know how available it is nowadays.

  156. one is an ordinary beige cover, but the other has a very thick golden
  157. cardboard cover with a cut-out which shows through a picture on the inner
  158. protective sleeve.
  159. where they both released in 1962, and is one of them rarer that the other?
  160. i'd like to know, as i want to sell the rarest of them, and keep the other
  161. one for me.

  233. Great idea about a monthly soiree.  I propose a different theme for each
  234. event, starting with (of course!) EZ-vocals, namely Mancini, Ray Charles
  235. Singers, and...did somebody say RAY CONNIFF?  Don't forget your bubble-gum.

  237. Brighton happens to be the home to at least two interesting stores worth your
  238. perusal.  First is Mars, up the stairs at 107 Brighton Ave.  Good deals (for
  239. the most part), they have a fun collection of all the stuff we talk about here
  240. at Exotica Central.  But a few doors down is where you'll spend most of your
  241. time, at Diskovery (113 Brighton Ave.).  The proprietor claims to have known
  242. Yma Sumac in Peru back in the day, and has a mint-condition autographed Yma
  243. LP (not for sale, unfortunately) to prove it.  The prices seem inordinately
  244. high sometimes, but usually when you get to the counter she looks at your
  245. stack and says, "mmm...give me 10 dollah."  Sure, my Englebert Christmas
  246. album was scratched all ways to Tuesday, but hey...

  267. 5 I feel that it has it's place in the great cheeze factor of space age
  268. pop/Lounge.  Songs are fun and catchy.  Who can resist Young Wayne Newton
  269. singing Danke shane  (sp?)  Or Sam Butera  (who also played with Louis
  270. Prima, another great)  singing French Poodle.

  345. expert as most of y'all, but I have to say that I'm in love with the way 
  346. they programmed the running order.  It's my current fave CD(s).  The flow 
  347. from track to track feels wonderful.

  419. I think if you don't have a lot of 50s vocalists in your collection, 
  420. it's a good place to start but most of it is already available and 
  421. there's so much Captol product not released that the programming 
  422. feels a bit lazy compared to the other volumes.

  425. purchased a Wayne Newton compilation.

  567.      There were four LP volumes in the "Las Vegas Grind" series initially; on 
  568. Crypt Records.  Crypt took the four records and stuck their contents on two 
  569. C.D.'s.  Also well worth looking for, though I don't see it very often, is 
  570. another Crypt compilation called "Swing For a Crime," which is pretty much a 
  571. collection of swaggering crime movie music/beatnik stuff, though there are a 
  572. few other oddities on there, too.  It's a nice companion piece to the "L.V. 
  573. Grind" series.  Any of this stuff will spice up the dullest party like you 
  574. wouldn't believe!

  590. Jungle Exotica, and the two Frolic Diner CDs. Not quite LV GRind but

  605. I'll also vouch for Medium Rare Records here in SF.  Last I checked they had
  606. three or four of Les Baxter's harder to find albums - priced around $40 each.
  607.  They do special orders though, and were more than willing to order Russ
  608. Garcia's FANTASTICA CD from Japan.  Lots of UK and Continental European CDs
  609. as well.
