Subject: (dr350) White Brothers Cheaper Parts (in USA)
After looking at the caterlog, I fancied some nice bits to modifiy
my bike. After looking at the prices I found it would be nearly 50% cheaper
in the USA compared with the prices in the UK, but here is the catch, I need
somone in the US to order me the parts so I don't have to pay tax (the
biggest cost over here). So if anyone would like to do this for me, please
get back to me.
Thanks
Wez

Subject: (dr350) Suzuki parts dealers ???
I just purchased a 99 DR350SE. Question that I have is when the time comes
for parts are there any GOOD mail-order Suzuki dealers that anyone has had
experience with. I can't complain about the local dealers but I know that
when and if time comes for big ticket items there are better deals to be had.
Bike is completely stock except for installing the Kouba links for lowering
purposes. I was extremely impressed with the follow-up service from Norm
Kouba. I've bought new cars that I did not get as much follow-up to detail.

Neil,
Just take her out and rider her. I rode mine over 400 miles from Albuquerque
to Moab in a day, then two full days of off-road, the back to Albuquerque,
and it still ain't broke in yet! On the highway I was doing about 65mph.

Subject: Re: (dr350) GPS
I read in one of the bike magazines (can't remember which) about one of the
adventure bike touring companies with a Great New Idea:
They are located near the famous and beautiful Copper Canyon in Mexico. You
supply the bike. They rent you a GPS with all the coordinates programmed
in. With that, and one of their maps, you can explore the region at your
own pace and wherever you like, without a guide.
Sounded very cool to me. I could do something like that up here in Montana
. . . . TW
PS While (road) riding through Colorado last week, I came across a group of
trail riders (mostly on big tanked-WR400's) who had stopped for gas. They
were on a week long trail ride, emerging into civilization only for gas and
motels at night, planning to put in 1000 miles mostly on trails. They were
guiding themselves with a couple GPS units, one which was interfaced with a
palmtop computer, with all the necessary forest service maps programmed in.
Although not perfect (because, mainly the maps they had for databases were
not accurate enough), they claimed the GPS were a real asset.
PPS I want a GPS for my birthday.

Subject: (dr350) Precision Concepts=great suspension work
This is just to advise the list that the guy Kurt mentioned, Bob Bell @
Precision Concepts, is great w/ DR suspension setup! I mailed him my forks
& shock, & he put heavier springs all the way around, Race Tech Cartridge
Emulators up front, & did his own custom revalve of the stock shock valve.
When I got it all bolted back up, it was dialed in perfectly for my weight &
riding....its handling 4-5'heigh jumps now like it was born to jump! With
new fork seals & fluid all around, + insured S&H, he charged me $310 for
forks, $185 for shock. I'll wager that you cant get this work done by
someone of Bob's caliber for less than $500!! I highly recommend this
work....REGARDLESS of where you stand on the "ride stock or modify to the
hilt" scale! :)
I think the correct order of mods (for DR-Ss) is: 1)carb [open airbox, new
filter, "T" the vent-hose, JXneedle/spring combo] just becase its cheap &
easy to do 2)suspension upgrades 3) then anything else is probably very
subjective as to whether you think it will be worth it. (I dont consider
tires a mod, but very important)
You can reach Bob @ 619-593-7473...feel free to reference the work he did
for Bryan in Dallas back in May of this year.

Subject: Re: (dr350) Suzuki parts dealers ???
Bob;
If you are talking about genuine Suzuki parts then I would reccomend Sloan's.
These guys are located in Murfeesboro, TN; it is a full dealership for
Suzuki, Honda and Yamaha. They will give you a break on factory parts that
are mail ordered from them. I may be wrong, but I don't think there is a
straight percentage discount; they usually evaluate the profit margin for
some of the parts before they give you an answer. When I had my Yamaha RT180,
the ONLY place to get parts was from the dealer and I used these guys quite a
bit; they are very service oriented and have a good parts inventory.
If you are looking for a mail order house for aftermarket parts, then I would
recommend Dennis Kirk. His firm is located up in Minnesota and I have ordered
many items from this company. His prices are not as cheap as some of the
other big mail order houses, but his prices include UPS ground shipping. The
only other caveat is a $5 service charge for orders under $100.
I personally like to find good dealers/mail order houses that are NOT located
out on the Left Coast.......to many of these places are so big they really
don't give a hoot about customer satisfaction.
These are just my opinions, based upon my experiences (which have been good
so far) and I'm sure there are guys out there who'll lambaste Kirk or have
other large dealer/mail order outfits to recommend.
You can find Sloans at:
1-800-342-1681
I know they have a website so you'll have to get that from them if you call
Dennis Kirk
1-800-328-9280

Hope this helps out.....
