I made a similar adjustment to my DR on the road last year when the bike in
front of me went down on the exit of a corner.  With an oncoming truck
occupying the other side of the road I had the choice of going over the
sliding bike or the sliding rider and chose the bike.  I actually thought I
was going to stay upright but the bike I was jumping flipped when I was
halfway over, depositing me into a field at 60mph.  The other bike (CBR600)
was totalled, and I got a bent handlebar and cracked mudguard.  When it came
to readjustment I decided that a length of scaffold pole over the end of the
bar was marginally easier!

Try and work a small screwdriver in between the housing and grip, =
enough to
create a small gap. Drip some water in (some people use WD-40 but its =
messy)
and work the screwdriver round a bit until you can start twisting the =
grip
at the end. Get some more water in as things loosen up and it will come =
off
dead easy.

You can actually use water to slip grips on but they need a day or two =
to
dry out otherwise they will come off ! Better to use hairspray or =
something
similar that dries sticky (glue).

Subject: (dr) Suzuki-Kawasaki of Gastonia riders burn up GNCC 4-Stroke A Class

Suzuki-Kawaski of Gastonia Off-Road Team Riders Curt Wilcox (Team Jesus
Off-Road Racing) and Vance Earl were on fire in the 4-Stroke A Class at
Round 8 of the AMA Grand National Cross Country Series held near Boyer,
Pennsylvania.  Fellow Team members Timmy Luckado and Owen Hightower were
unable to compete at this round.

Curt finished Second 4-Stoke A (26th overall) by completing 6  laps in 3
hours 37 minutes and 33 seconds.
Vance finished Third 4-Stoke A (29th overall) by completing 5 laps in 3
hours and 2 seconds.  Suzuki-Kawaski of Gastonia Off-Road Team Rider
Timmy Luckado

As of May 25, Curt was second in points for the series, and Vance was in
fourth.  However, this weekends finishes may move them each up a notch
for the season's points to date.  Suzuki-Kawaski of Gastonia Off-Road
Team Rider Timmy Luckado was second in points for the series in the
4-Stroke B Class, while Owen Hightower is ranked 16th in the Senior A
Class aboard an Suzuki RM 250.

Curt, Vance, and Timmy are all riding new Suzuki DR-Z400EYs.  Shouldn't
you?

I wrote to the list on Friday about purchasing a new DRZ400S. I returned
here on Monday with some e-mails curious about my impressions of the new
ride. My two best friends have 2000DRZ400E's, which are the dirt dual sport
models. While playing at their shop, we have had a couple of fun races,
which may be amusing/ interesting to some people. First, my buddy has a
heavily modified Kawasaki 250 dirt bike. The next door neighbor has a
heavily modified 91 Porsche 911 C4 Alchemy, with less then 10,000 miles on
the clock. In a dead heat of a 1/4 mile, my friend on the 250 not only beat
him, but was able to pass him and pull in front of him before the end of the
run. The same bike raced my buddy on his DRZ400E, and was amazed that the
DRZ actually stayed just barely ahead of that bike! Sunday, my DRZ buddies
and I spent the whole day in Swanton, Vt riding, and also made some
comparisons between the DRZ-E and the DRZ-S. On the road we raced in a
straight line. The two bikes seemed very evenly matched, neither could pull
away from the other, (by the way, that was up to 90MPH and the bike still
had more!) We swapped off a couple of times, and it is obvious that the "S"
model is a lot smoother and better mannered, not surprising given the
differences between the two. In Swanton, there is a place to ride with 3
sandpits and miles of tight hard packed wooded trails connecting them. It is
obvious that the dirt DRZ excels here, but the "S" model really did not show
any weaknesses though. Keep in mind that they are running MT 21's, and I
have the milder factory Bridgestone's on... Please don't forget, I loved my
95 DR350SE, but in my opinion, the 2000 DRZS is worth every penny. All the
rumors you have heard are true! I was hitting 60+MPH in sand, and running up
to 50MPH in tight woods. The DRZ was smooth and agile the whole time, and
never once complained. The one and only thing that bothers me about the bike
is its lack of a tachometer, (which the dirt models don't have anyway). The
power band is smooth and excessive, and I never once gave it full throttle
in the sand pits, or on the trail. IMHO, if you love your DR350, I would
stay with that, let's face it, its a great bike. If you have some $$$ to
burn, and you want to try something new, I give the new DRZ two thumbs up.
Smooth, lots of power, forgiving, all dressed up in a very attractive
package. By the way, earlier some of the list members were praising Jessie
for his contributions to the list. For what it is worth, high on my list of
reasons not to buy the DRZ was the fact that Jessie does not currently ride
one, (as far as I know). His wealth of information about these bikes is
absolutely priceless. I also give an Amen!

Thank you for your interest in the Bridgestone/Firestone Centennial
Wilderness Area.  This gift to the state represents a corporate
conservation ethic  unsurpassed in recent history.

The Centennial Wilderness will be managed along the guidelines agreed
upon by the Bridgestone/Firestone Corporation, the Tennessee Department
of Environment and Conservation, and the Tennessee Wildlife Resources
Agency.  In a nutshell, the agreements allow the TWRA to manage the
upland farm area for wildlife and to manipulate the habitat to bring out
its full potential.

The gorge will be managed more like a natural area for low impact outdoor
recreation.  The area will be managed to accommodate hunting, fishing,
hiking, floating, and other low impact uses. There will be some access
into the gorge along a road designated for travel by motorized vehicles
to specific parking sites.

I am aware of some historic uses in the area.  However, during the past
two years or more, the Scott's Gulf area has been closed to all users.

The TWRA does plan to allow the public to enjoy the wilderness within the
guidelines set out in the Management Plan and other agreements.  Those
plans and agreements were written to protect the wilderness for outdoors
enthusiasts today and in the future.
