Hi John, I would give Jesse a call. He got me a nice CEET seat cover and 1"
inch taller seat foam for my DR. It almost took the dip out completely and
lets you move up on the tank much easier.

A small comment for UK folk but may apply also to other places;
M&P in the UK are a large mail order company with a very comprehensive
catalogue and regional counter service. They are great for stuff like =
tires,
chains, sprockets and brake pads but price other things very cleverly.=20
For example, spark plugs are more than my local dealers so I wonder if =
some
bits that you "might as well have one of those as well please" are over
priced and you probably wouldn't notice.
Also for my KLX - they had cam chains on special offer - same price as
Kawasaki originals !
And KLX clutch plates (hence the link), a few quid more expensive than
Kawasaki originals....
So it always pays to have a quick check around. Suzuki parts do seem =
quite
expensive though generally, and crap availability compared to the big
green's next day service.=20
Its annoying that Suzuki make such good bikes.....

I have found that sitting too far forward on the DR causes me trouble. Often
I move WAAAAY back on the seat to keep the front from washing out. This is
true when I go through deep sand, mud holes and generally any squishy
substance. Also a must for crossing logs and other obstacles. As a matter of
fact, I was wondering if there is an aftermarket pad to go on the rear fender
so that when I move that far back my butt doesn't get hammered by that bar on
the fender ;)

Hi Scott The Baja Designs extended seat kit sounds like just what you want
White Bros is handling them it is a kit that includes a new cover foam
extension and seat base that adds to the stock seat. It extends back to the
metal grab bar and is listed at $145.00

Subject: Re: (dr) Seat foam
From everyone's comments, I am wondering if anyone ever stands up on their
footpegs while riding in heavy terrain. Going over rocks, logs and deep
whoop-de-dos is very difficult if you try to stay seated, but much easier if
one learns to stand up and move yourself to keep the bike balanced. As far
as where I sit on the seat when seated, it is much like when I stand. I
position myself where I need to be to keep the bike balanced. Going uphill,
I may slide myself forward on the seat to help keep the front tire down,
going downhill I would slide rearward to keep from going over the handlebars.
Standing on the pegs, I do the same and have more freedom of movement to
move forward and aft, using my body weight to shift the bikes center of
gravity in order to keep both wheels on the ground. Also, standing on the
pegs in rough terrain keeps the bike's center f gravity lower and closer to
the ground since body weight is concentrated on the pegs and not on the seat.
Believe it or not you have better control of the bike if you keep your feet
on the pegs and are not trying to paddle your way through the rough stuff.
Sometimes you have too, but usually the only time I ma on the seat is when
the trail is smooth and few if any bumps. Standing through the rough stuff
also makes the ride more comfortable as I am not getting bounced around with
every bump and also means I can ride faster ... faster ... faster!
Hope this is helpful and I have not insulted anyone's intelligence!

Alvaro,
Welcome to the list! I just bought a DR350 this past winter myself and am
finding websites for spare parts and accessories. Are you able to do the
same from the Dominican Republic? It may be your best source for spares
whatever you ride.

Hello Alvaro,
I just bought a 2000 DR650SE dual-sport and love it. It works perfect for
what I wanted to use it for which is half highway use and half dirt
road/forest trail use.
It has enough power go 100 mph on the highway, is comfortable enough to
spend several hours riding, has a 190 mile gas tank range and will perform
adequately on dirt roads with 10 inches of suspension travel front and rear=
.
In my opinion, it is too heavy (324 lbs dry) for strictly off-road use or
for off-road competiton. If you weigh more than 180 lbs the rear shock
spring will probably be too soft for rough terrain.
If I were going to ride mostly off-road, I would have bought the DRZ400,
although I would have had to get a larger gas tank.
To be fair, I have not ridden the XR or WR models.

Kurt,
How are you doing? I'm still pretty busy. Been getting more into street
bikes, since that is what I own at the moment. How is the DR list doing, is
it still growing? I have some tires for sale and was wondering if you could
post them on the DR list for me. Thanks.
I have 2 IRC GP-1 Dual-Sport for sale. The front is a 3.00-21 and the rear
is a 4.10-18. Both tires have never been on a rim and are still in like new
condition. I am asking $30 + shipping for one or both of them. They should
fit a DR350-200. If you are interested or have questions you can contact me
at brock@gopolaris.com
Best,
Mike Brock

Haha, Thanks for comments I agree with what you had to say. Good reminders
for me also as I am getting back into this sport after a 15 to 20 hiatus ...
me, an expert? Certainly not. Just have a friend or two that want to trail
ride like they street ride and sometimes it works and sometimes it don't.

Shayne,
Will we meet at Moab? I'll be there, and be glad to go on a ride with
you, loud pipes or not. Even loud pipes can be kept relatively quiet, I
think it's the attitude thing that Arne mentioned. But if we ride
together, all I'll ask is that you stay behind me ;o)>.
And Arne, at 250#, I could use that extra power also, but I find other
ways to get it. I agree that the sound can be music to some ears, but
I've already had enough ear damage, can't afford any more.
