Subject: (dr) considering dr650
Hello,
I am still considering replacing KLR with DR (650). Are ther any
aftermarket wind screens available for the DR?
If there were, and along with a corbin seat and larger fuel tank would the
DR equate to a similiar road bike (longer haul)as the KLR??
My primary reason for considering the change is the fact that the DR seems
to be a better fit for a smaller human (5'8" 170#)
One more question, how much more difficult is the "Onion creek ride"
compared to the "White Rim", the water crossings sound very interesting??
Would it be considered "over the limits" for a average dirt rider on a
KLR?? I rode "White Rim" last year and it was a blast!!!
Looking for a few opinions!
Thanks in advance,
Joe

Joe, the aftermarket support for the DR650 is not as strong as for the KLR, but I
believe the interest can be created. So, the answer is no for the moment. But I've
read where the stock KLR shield is a bolt-on for the DR, so I'm ordering a pair from
Mike Walburn this week to try.

Yep...only lighter. Did you see Jeff and Linda's mid-term marks?

no question about this even in its stock form. Plus you can reduce it an extra inch
and a half ...

Onion Creek itself is a very easy ride. The only challenge comes at the end of the
ride with what loop you choose through the Mantis. It is also much shorter...just a
few hours for the entire ride....Fred?

Subject: (dr) Response to Jan Bradley re: Quiet
I'm with you Jan. Let's go out and get more people to buy DR 650's. Then
we'll get some real conversation going.
I was just at my dealer today (-21 degrees celsius today) looking at my bike
and comparing it to the other dual sports. Each bike has something to offer.
One thing I did not know when I bought my bike is the little tool pouch. I'm
impressed. What do you guys think of the Honda? Definately needs an
aftermarket tank!
I'm still looking for a bag for my tail rack. I want a simple cordura/nylon
type bag to hold a lunch, tire tube, whatever for a day ride on the trails.
I seriously doubt I will ever do long trips on my bike but you never know. I
never seem to venture a long ways from home unless it is with my family in
the van.
Back to my bike. I will not bring it home until I can ride it home. And with
our weather???? Do any of you guys get to ride year round? If I had bought
the bike earlier I would have had almost all of December to ride, but I was
still wanting the new KLR then. I may just grab a truck and pick it up. Any
advice an breaking it in? There's no tach, so.....
Does anyone else subscribe to "Inside Motorcycles"? It is a Canadian
magazine. When I subscribed I asked them about dual sport coverage and they
told me it would be a significant part of the magazine. The last three
issues have had articles on riding the KLR to Alaska, reviews of the super
sherpa and KLR 650 "C" model. The latest issue reviews the BMW R1150GS
against the Triumph Tiger. If any of you in the US who don't get this mag
want to borrow them let me know. Although the Dual Sport News seems to cover
everything.
Shayne.

It's working down here near San Diego, Ca.
BTW, are there enough DR list members in this area to get together and
have a get acquainted ride? Say around the first of Feb.

Aw Man!!! San Diego is my favourite city in the States. Don't tell me the
temp. I was last there in '98. Stayed at the Hyatt Islandia. I will be back
but a bit far to drive my DR.
