Alternative Press debuts new Ed Brubaker comic

Ed Brubaker, the multiple Eisner Award and Harvey Award nominee,
has announced his first new comic since "Lowlife".  Alternative Press,
Inc. is proud to announce the publication of Brubaker's "At the Seams",
an amazing new one-shot that promises to be some of Brubaker's finest
work since his sensational "Lowlife" series.

This collection contains three stories that all examine the same
situation from different perspectives.  A love triangle explored from
each side, with insight, humor, and a grasp at the nature of fate
and chaos.

A perfect starting point for people who've never tried Brubaker's
critically acclaimed work before, and a must-have item for all current
fans.  This issue also serves as a bridge between "Lowlife" and
Brubaker's new series "Detour", coming in August, as Brubraker
progresses from the autobiographical to a more exploratory fiction.

    "I'm pretty much done with the autobiographical stories. The new
    stuff is a lot more fiction based.  It's a post-modern take on
    things; still about real life, but more about the unreal
    elements of it," said At the Seams creator Ed Brubaker.

$2.95.

   magazine; a bi-monthly magazine dedicated to the coverage of
   independent comic books and film, published by Alternative Press.

   This is a list of indy friendly stores. I have compiled this list so
   that people can find good comics in good stores, and to help folks
   that want a good mailing list to use to promote their comic books.
   Please feel free to pass this list around. I require that this list is
   not sold, and require that the list remain completely intact with all
   of this text included.

   I consider a store to be "indy friendly" if they make a concerted
   effort to stock good alternative comics and go out of their way to
   push quality new indy titles.

   A note about comic book stores: Currently most weekly shipments of
   "new comics" arrive at stores on Wednesdays, so retailers are
   generally much more busy then. I'd advise that you do not call stores
   on Wednesdays because of that reason. Your best bet is to contact them
   on Mondays or Tuesdays, days generally much slower than the rest of
   the week.

   If you think that a store should be added to this list, please let me

If you are going to advertise at all, you need to make yourself an
"advertising plan" so that you spend your money wisely.

The very first thing you must do is to determine what you are selling.
This may sound strange, but if you can't state to yourself clearly what
it is that you are selling, how can you expect to sell it to someone
else?

Second, you need to decide who you are trying to get the message to...
Are you trying to reach retailers only?  Are you trying to reach fans of
science-fiction?  Are you interested in reaching fans of anthropomorpic
comics?  Are you trying to get manga readers interested in what you have
to offer?  The answer to this question is very important in deciding
where to advertise.

Third, you need to decide when you want this information to be available
for people to read.  When is your project going to be on stands?  Are
you planning on advertising the on sale date of your comic or are you
interested in promoting the solicitation in distributor catalogs?

Fourth, you must get the press kits from ALL POSSIBLE OUTLETS.  Contact
every industry publication you might be interested in advertising in and
ask them for a press kit including demographic information, printed
circulation, sold circulation, estimated readership, distribution areas,
and cost for advertising.  You should also consider contacting the
publishers of comic books that you think would be worthwhile advertising
in...  Most publishers are willing to swap advertising and many
publishers are willing to sell advertising in their comics.  It may be
much more cost effective, for example, to advertise in a similar Manga
comic book if you are publishing a Manga comic book yourself.

Fifth, decide which of these outlets you are going to use, and when.
Make sure you keep track of your budget so that you will see what kind
of cash you will need to have at all times.  Find out when you need to
get them the advertising material and when you need to get them the
money, etc.  Make sure they send you copies of the finished publication
with a verification of when it went on sale.

Sixth, and maybe the most important...  Make sure that your advertising
is the best thing you can possibly do.  If you aren't putting your best
foot forward inside of the best possible shoe with the best possible
shoe polish with the shoelaces perfectly tied with your toes pointed,
your advertising money will be wasted.

Ok...  That being said...  indy Magazine has very reasonable rates and a
demographic that can NOT be beat.  You can get information about

Here are the publications that I can think of off the top of my head
that I would classify specifically as "comic book specific magazines",
and you'll definitely want to get samples of ANYTHING you are even
remotely considering advertising in...  *NEVER EVER NEVER EVER*
advertise in a publication that you've never seen!  You can find most of
