Unto the good electronic members of the Shire of Cote du Ciel does Angus
MacAeda send greetings.

This post is something along the lines of a poll/troll for info/opinions.

Those of you who have been on the Aerie are probably aware of HE Yumitori's
having moved the Aerie onto the web-based mailing list provider egroups.
I've been using egroups for quite some time now. It is, in my opinion, much
easier to use than Majordomo, which cdc is running off of. Especially for
those of us who are not programers, and understand PERL.

Bartholomew didn't even know cdc existed (and was actually a little
offended that nobody told him about it.) He, like myself, was very
impressed with the features that egroups offers with their list service,
like a web site along with the list that has quite a few useful features,
from an easily accessed member email list and message archive to a vault
for storring all sorts of useful information.

Bart and I decided to see if there was any interest in switching our shire
mailing list (which both of us would like to see more active) over to
egroups. He has set one up already. If you want to check out their

Which is the group Bart set up before I told him about the existence of
cdc. I have had reason to do some research on their security, and am quite
impressed with it, if we set it up correctly. Which I would see to it that
we did. Go ahead and respond on either list. Or even if you think that a
e-mail list is not a good idea. Though I for one like having it, and think
we ought to use one or the other of these things.

I am not a computer wiz and don't know a whole lot but I am happy with the way
things are.  I could be happy in a cardboard box.  goes to show you wat brain

I would tend to agree, I like things the way they are.The list has been dead
lately but that I think is due to the fact that we haven't had much to talk
about. We here in the shire for the most part aren't much for talking just
for the sake of talking. I would like to see more activity on the list but
not at the expense of having to wade through hours and hours on pointless
banter, that's why we aren't on any other lists anymore. I do think the news
group or e-group is cool though it would be nice to save the important
things that we say, and a chat from time to time would be cool, so let's do
both.

The major advantage that I can see to changing to egroups is the "read
from the web" feature.  I _subscribe_ to a Slavic Interest Group that
has
their list on Onelist.  I like being able to read the mail from work
without having all the email come to my work mailbox.  Even the digests
can clutter up a mailbox pretty quickly.

The down side is the hassle of changing.  It looks like many people are
having trouble with the Aerie change.

Either way I will probably only check my email once a day.  The traffic
volume of the CDC list is so low that I haven't even been receiving the
digested version.
What does Gwfy think about losing the list administrator job?

Angus has had the ability to do administration of this list for some time
on Xmission, but we haven't made the change simply because there wasn't the
volume.  I would agree that the new lists and discussion groups are
snazzier, and that they provide better e-mail processing so that things
don't get lost as easy.

It really makes no difference to me, as at the moment I'm spending far too
much time in the Airplane to come down from the sky for fighter practice.
I'll have to work on that since half the people on this list now have no
idea who I even am..... *rotfl*  well that's my fault.

Heh heh. My first thought was "who the heck is Gwfy?"

I think the general consensus coming out is to leave the group the way
it is, and that works well for me.  I'll leave the new one in an unused
state on egroups, so that we can move over if we ever feel the collective
urge.

And if we ever do, Gwfy of course can be a managaw.

Are there any objections to putting a pointer to [e-mail]
on the shire webpage?
