Hello Earl,
I read some of your other messages from today as well,
and am a little perplexed with the stock selection
Lynn uses as well, but as I said before, if she makes
money, she makes money. I can't make money in a
market like this using the system I use. I have
learned about losing money in markets like this in the
past, and I will not be fooled again. Just to make
sure I am not being foolish with my own opinions, I
track recent breakouts to see if they continue higher,
and unfortunately, the few stocks that have broken out
and meet my buying criterion have mostly failed with
just a few exceptions.
Today may technically be a follow through day because
the volume was up, but a follow through day means
nothing if there are only a few to no quality stocks
coming out of quality bases. When the market came out
in late October 1999, there were a ton of choices. In
early June 2000, there were again a ton of choices,
but right now they just are not there. I do not trade
based on others opionions. I trade based on what the
market tells me. I know this sounds like a broken
record, but every trader I admire repeats this over
and over. It is constantly stated on the General
Market page and investors corner of IBD, and from
other great people like Kevin Marder of
TradingMarkets.com.
Since this is only my second day getting emails from
this discussion group, I am glad to see one from
someone who thinks at least a little like me. Earlier
in the day I was a little worried.

What are the lurkers thinking? I for one see today as a valid WON
follow-through day. My portfolio sure did follow through! Looks like Asia
will open up hard later tonite. As for stocks breaking out of bases, the
bases were formed through the period ended 2 weeks ago. Most of the
breakouts occurred last week. There are very few left to break out! I
particularly like seeing the brokers I.E. LEH all continuing their charge.
That means many feel the volume should now pick up. (also the volatility,
so beware!) I did take 1/2 positions in IFIN and HDI at the close. Hope
they work out as well as TNL...

When I attended WON's seminar,, he made it very clear that a follow through
day can occur in ANY of the major indexes, S&P, DOW, or NASDAQ! The Dow has
beenn signaling a follow through day for sometime now...Also, WON also
stated that he personally never even bother with a stock that does not have
at least a 50% growth rate. Those are his words, not mine.
The tone at the seminar was slightly different than what is in his books or
IBD. Frankly, it threw me at first. Others at the seminar felt the same way.
making comments about how they do not even follow their own rules. Another
thing that was stated at the seminar was that if the average volume is less
than a million, than buyer beware. I noticed that IFiN has an average daily
volume of 159,900. It is one of the reason why I have not bought PLT.
Incredible growth potential yet only 1/2 million in volume...

Subject: [CANSLIM] Does any one use Daily Graphs Online?
Hello All,
I started using Daily Graphs Online about a year ago.
The service is great. Each day you can download the
entire Daily Graphs printed book in spreadsheet format
with all the proprietary information, and sort them at
will. I started making a database of this information
last September 1999, but do not have the daily reports
from before that. I noticed some patterns since then
in the way the high quality stocks change in number
depending on the market conditions. I would like to
test the ideas I have formed when looking at these
reports by tracking them back from before and through
the 1998 bear market.
If any one has saved each daily report from Daily
Graphs Online previous to September 1999, I would
greatly like to hear from you. If you were to provide
those reports to me I would be glad to share any of
the info I glean from analyzing the patterns.
Thanks
John

I've seen several breakouts the last few days, some of the semi's
have looked good. Today, CIEN came very close to breaking out if
it didn't quite do so, although with the volume I would consider it a
breakout, and also FORR came out of a nice little consolidation
area with a volume dry up on good volume.

Hi Lynn,
I think I just spotted several more reasons to finally make the trek to one
of WON's seminars (thanks to your eye-opening post). The minimum 50%
growth rate requirement is interesting.
So is the one million ADV. Did WON himself say this, or was it one his
lieutenants?
Thank you for your contributions.

GOsh John , I am impressed. You download the DGonline each day onto a spread
sheet... WOW! Can you email me how you do that, if you have time.. That
would be wonderful, if you can...if not, then I understand...:)

As I recall walter, those comments were made by WON himself and echoed by
his lieutenants. I need to listen to the tapes that someone from this board
made for me...but I remember being wuite surprised at several things as they
were said, as were those around me...

P.S. also, at the end of the seminar when they flash several charts related
to questions from the audience, he was unable to give a definitive answer to
some questions stating that he never looks at daily charts but only weekly
charts. He also said that they would soon be offering daily graphs online
with weekly charts. He even commented that he could not remember the last
time he studied a stock using daily charting since he has looked at weekly
charting for so long. Evidently, you or at least he can come to a better
overall evaluation using weekly rather than the daily stuff we see.. ups and
down by the minute...

The best chart service I ever enjoyed from WON was the Maroon
Books (Big Books) that showed five year charts on a weekly (and
log) basis. Really easy to not only get the overall trend, but to
see c&h patterns in them.
I have not heard of DGO offering weekly charts, but would welcome
the addition, esp if they offered the option of log charts. But I
also still like daily charts for timing purposes.

It's amazing, put something in print and you'll get many different
interpretations of it. I guess the idea is to take what you can out of a
system and adapt it to your own successful approaches. There's nothing that
can't be improved upon. With that said, I do stick to the Canslim as much
as possible because it's the only system I know. It's the first book I
read, lucky me.
