My most memorable cup with handle pattern was that of OCLI in December 1998.
I took a position on 12/18/99. I have nothing to brag about. I was shook out
in February of '98. Quite a learning experience. I spotted this pattern on
the last page of IBD's Friday edition. Congratulations to all who bought and
held and/or are still holding. IMHO this stock actually formed multiple cup
w/ handle patterns and in the process offered multiple sound entry points
per WON'S methodology. It has indeed been quite a learning experience. Your
comments/observations appreciated.

A total of 218 on the list this week compared to 222 last
week. Same problem, most charts too extended and needing to
consolidate.  Most bases were only one to two weeks long,
some are marginal bases even at that.

For the new members, this list is culled from the DGO (Daily
Graphs Online, a WON publication) list of stocks that are
(1) in the DG books; (2) have both RS and EPS of 80 or
better; and (3) were at or within 5% of their 12 month high
during the prior week.

Since this is a subscription service, I am not allowed to
post the entire list, but I do scroll thru all the charts
and post those that to my eye present a constructive chart
suggesting they are worth further review, research or
watching. In no way is this list intended as a "buy" or
"hold" list.

Terms:
CUP & HANDLE - see HTMMIS
BASE - see HTMMIS
LLUR - for a chart showing "lower left, upper right"
progression - not exactly CANSLIM but fits, the consistency
of the slope becomes "the base"
FUNNEL - like a cup, but steeper and briefer
STAIRCASE - just like it seems

ADIC surfaced through our "Rising Expectations" stock screen, which seeks
situations in which analysts are raising earnings estimates in response to a
series of positive earnings surprises.

The company's core business, tape-based systems for storing electronic data,
might once have been considered mundane by tech-sector standards. But that's
not the case anymore. Ongoing rapid growth of the internet, e-commerce,
digitized information and global communication are combining to spark
explosive growth in storage requirements. This goes way beyond the
day-to-day retrieval and storage of files between computers and hard drives.
Demand is soaring for archival storage of information enterprises need to
preserve, but don't necessarily access every day.

ADIC is well positioned to benefit from these trends because its core
product line, automated tape libraries, works with all major storage formats
including the emerging fiber channel router systems favored by
state-of-the-art Storage Area Networks. The best way to understand the
nature of an automated tape library is to think of a jukebox. The user never
actually touches the CD to be played. Instead, the music selection is input
into the system, and the jukebox will turn to its search and retrieval
routines to find the right CD and activate it. That's exactly what an
automated tape library does. Users need not know the location of the data
they seek. All they need do is tell the library what they are looking for.
The library uses its own procedures to find the data and give it to the
user.

Software that controls automated tape libraries represents another growing
business for ADIC. Key here was the August 1998 acquisition of EMASS and its
AMASS software product which helps network users access automated tape
libraries. In fact, this product helps archive-oriented libraries function
in a way that, from the vantage point of the user, almost resembles
plain-vanilla disk-based storage.

Although ADIC is a small company, it has been scoring some big-time wins
with original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) such as Dell, Unisys, and IBM.
The OEM market represents a major strategic shift for ADIC which as recently
as a year ago sold entirely to end users and distributors. As of the latest
quarter, OEM sales represented 17% of the total, and this percentage should
continue to grow.

Results in the fiscal year that ended October 1998 (EPS of $.08, down from
$0.46 in 1997) were hurt by reduced sales of commodity-type stand-alone tape
storage drives (an older product line that is diminishing in importance),
increased R&D spending and heavy investment in OEM sales channels. But
fiscal 1999 represents a major comeback. Through the July period, ADIC
already earned $0.55 a share. Consensus expectations call for full-year EPS
to reach $0.76 a share. Analysts expect EPS to reach $0.95 in the October
2000 fiscal year, and grow at a 25% annual rate thereafter.

The stock is richly valued, even when the PEG (Price/Earnings-to-growth)
ratio is used. The stock was recently priced at 46.41 times estimated 2000
EPS. And it's already within the radar of institutional investors (they own
59.29% of the common, versus 36.38% for the computer peripherals industry).
But institutional ownership levels aren't so high as to diminish the stock's
prospects as a momentum play.

on CANSLIM.

I'm actually from Australia, and starting to invest in the US market. When

The November issue of the Gilder Tech Report is about The Storewidth
Paradigm. One of the things that are mentioned is that (from internet
related stuff) SANs are and will be replaced by NAS very fast.

SAN: Storage Area Networks
Examples of players in this area: VIXL, BRCD, ZOOX

NAS: Network Attached Storage
Examples of players in this area: NTAP, PRCM, DSS. But LU, SCSO, ATON,
FDRY, AKAM will also indirectly benefit from the disruptive NAS model.

To bad that The Gilder Tech Report is copyright protected otherwise I would
cut and paste it here.

Johan,

Thanks for the heads up! I will have to research NAS as a potential "New"
for CS stocks. Currently, the market seems to be discounting a HUGE future
for the SAN/fiberchannel pack. Just look and the charts of EMLX,ANCR, QLGC
et al. I don't think the market would be putting these kind of multiples out
there if this was a flash in the pan trend. But, hey....I'm not a technology
guru.....I just know how to combine a good dose of "new" with a great chart.
For those interested in SAN/Fiberchannel plays here is my list:
