From: Dan Cash <dcash@compuall.net>
Subject: [CANSLIM] Technical Help from Customer Service Rep.
Customer: I'm not very technical, but I think I am ready to install
now.
What do I do first?
CS Rep: The first step is to open your HEART. Have you located your
HEART?
Customer: Yes I have, but there are several programs running right
now.
Is it okay to install while they are running?
CS Rep: What programs are running?
Customer: Let me see...I have PASTHURT.EXE, LOWESTEEM.EXE,
RESENTMENT.COM, and GRUDGE.EXE running right now.
CS Rep: No problem. LOVE will automatically erase PASTHURT.EXE from
your current operating system. It may remain in your permanent
memory,
but it will no longer disrupt other programs. LOVE will eventually
overwrite
LOWESTEEM.EXE with a module of its own called HIGHESTEEM.EXE.
However, you have to completely turn off RESENTMENT.COM and
GRUDGE.EXE. Those programs prevent LOVE from being properly
installed.
Can you turn those off?
Customer: I don't know how to turn them off. Can you tell me how?
CS Rep: Gladly. Go to your Start menu and invoke FORGIVENESS.EXE.
Do this as many times as necessary until RESENTMENT.COM and
GRUDGE.EXE have been completely erased.
Customer: Okay, I'm done. LOVE has started installing itself
automatically.
Is that normal?
CS Rep: Yes it is. You should receive a message that says it will
reinstall for the life of your HEART. Do you see that message?
Customer: Yes I do. Is it completely installed?
CS Rep: Yes, but remember that you have only the base program. You
need
to begin connecting to other HEART's in order to get the upgrades.
Customer: Oops...I have an error message already. What should I do?
CS Rep: What does the message say?
Customer: "ERROR - PROGRAM NOT RUN ON INTERNAL COMPONENTS."
What does that mean?
CS Rep: Don't worry, that's a common problem. It means that the
LOVE
program is set up to run on external HEARTS but has not yet been run
on
your HEART. It is one of those complicated programming things, but
in
nontechnical terms it means you have to LOVE your own machine before
it can LOVE others.
Customer: So what should I do?
CS Rep: Can you find the directory called SELF-ACCEPTANCE?
Customer: Yes, I have it.
CS Rep: Excellent, you are getting good at this.
Customer: Thank you.
CS Rep: You're welcome. Click on the following files and then copy
them
to the MYHEART directory: FORGIVESELF.DOC, SELFESTEEM.TXT,
REALIZEWORTH.TXT, and GOODNESS.DOC. The system will overwrite any
conflicting files and begin patching any faulty programming. Also,
you
need
to delete SELFCRITIC.EXE from all directories, and then empty your
recycle
bin afterwards to make sure it is completely gone and never comes
back.
Customer: Got it. Hey! My HEART is filling up with really neat
files.
SMILE.MPG is playing on my monitor right now and it shows that
WARMTH.COM, PEACE.EXE, and CONTENTMENT.COM are copying
themselves all over my HEART!
CS Rep: Then LOVE is installed and running. You should be able to
handle it from here. One more thing before I go...
Customer: Yes?
CS Rep: LOVE is freeware. Be sure to give it and its various modules
to
everybody you meet. They will in turn share it with other people and
they will return some really neat modules back to you.

Hi,
I noticed that NITE has dropped from a high of about 81 to about 27 right
now yet the RS is still at 95. I realize that the stock did go up as well but
I would think that the RS number would be lower. Look at a stock like Maytag
(MTG). It went up about 74 and is now at 38. It's RS dropped to 6. Any
comments?
Any comments?

Hi Steve,
NITE had a 52 week low of 2 1/4 which at the current price of $27 makes for a
rise of about 1100%...a pretty good performance, hence the high RS.

Fortunately, I stayed in longer than 10 days. So from a buy point of $28.50
on September 24th to a sell of $40.25 last week, VSIO made a nice run.
This is a good example of keeping a pre-qualified Watchlist of CANSLIM or
HGS candidates and then buying based on a technical trigger that you are
comfortable with.

Hi Steve,
You are absolutely right. The RS ratings in IBD
are very slow to react (they have a pronounced time lag).
They are a twelve month measurement, so they are only
useful for a long term look at price performance.
Over the short and medium term they are worse than useless,
they are outright hazardous to rely on.
If you stayed with the oil drillers in '98 because of the
continuing high RS ratings, even though the drillers
peaked on November 5 '97, well you lost your shirt.
If you stayed with the Nets after the DOT index peaked
back on April 13, same story.
Same problem exists for the IBD Industry Group ratings.
For short-term and medium-term investing decisions
you might want to look at the IBD Acc/Dis ratings
instead. Perhaps Tom or others could comment on this.
For myself, I generate my own RS and Acc/Dis ratings
using AIQ where I can select the timeframe I want.
I also do this for Industry Group analysis.

This applies to EPS also and is why you need to make sure
a) the stock is not extended
b) hasn't been running for over 18 months
Dell is a good example, Microsoft is one exception
