I suspect that this group of stocks will enjoy slower climbs than the first group. The logic may be that in an up-move, investors first chase the glamorous stocks, then fall back to the more pedestrian ones. Maybe when investors have finished exploiting the pedestrian New Americas, they'll begin chasing the household names, like MSFT, GE, IBM, etc., and that will signalm the temporary end of this up-blip. All of these New America stocks that have been getting chased have, in common, good CANSLIM numbers. Some don't have good histories, but are great turn-ups or turn-arounds. Some have good histories too. But most have good near-term EPS growth prospects. I think that the CANSLIM numbers separate the sheep from the goats most of the time, i.e., charts are the entry point, but due diligence is the safeguard. Lots of way to skin a kitty, I would; Bring up the image, Rclick it and copy. Open a blank word.doc. Rclick it and Paste. File, Page Setup, Paper Size, Landscape. View, Print Layout. View, Zoom, Whole Page. This mode is friendly to resizing. Notice your print margins are there for click n drag. Lclick on the image will bring up the resize GUI, hover the mouse over the blocks on the border and the anchors activate, use only the corner anchors if preserving aspect ratio is important. I also noticed an interesting phenomenon that plays into your comments. That is, starting in February and into about mid-April, the early movers tended to have strong fundamentals. As the rally has worn on, I've noticed that lesser-quality stocks (fundamentally) have been the ones breaking out. What's not really clear to me is whether after such a long Bear that this is what one would expect to see, i.e., at last most stocks are tending to move up, indicating more money coming back into the market for good, or whether that's just a sign of more bubbilicious behavior left over from the original brew. That is, people are rushing into anything in sight just because they think they've missed the boat and will get right back out at the least sign of weakness. So hard to tell, but thankfully we have sell rules that take the guess work out of it! When you do fundie analyis make sure to only compare the quarter with the previous years quarter, it is useless to compare 2nd qrtr with 3rd qrtr. MVL might be running out of gas for several reasons 1) It already has had a huge run up 2)It was a turnaround. The thing that might seperate LF from other companies, such as my employer and Hasbro is 3 things: 1) LF sell many educational toys which aren't as seasonal as regular toys. 2) Many toys are only bought once but with LF Books the consumer buys the Leap Pad and the books that come with it. 3) Parents are more willing to spend money on educational products. Fisher Price (Mattel) is coming out with a leap pad like toy with the exception is that you can read with your finger, not with a pen. I don't know how that will affect LF. The run up and forming of the right side of a CwH could be in anticipation of the upcoming school and holiday season so it might be a good idea to get in before 3 qrtr earnings are reported. Note: I bought LF at around $26 and also own Mattel. Hope this helps. *************************************** Allan Margate, CPA Senior Internal Audit Mattel, Inc. The early up-movers in this recovery had much higher Sales and EPS gains over the past 5 years and in latest quarter than the late-comers. And, the turn-up stocks in April and May were experiencing much sharper turn-ups in EPS than the ones whose price has begun moving up only lately. I wasn't surprised at that. Investors watching stocks lay money on the ones with best Company performance first. Then, as the steam begins to wane on those, they look at the second best -- like now. Next, they look at the household names, which has already begun. So I think we have a little time to exploit CANSLIM in the present up-swing, but not much. From time to time, CANSLIM members may wish to browse the discussion archives. This posting provides instructions on how to access the archives. Thanks to David Cameron for compiling the essentials of this message. Here are the two ways to access the archives: 1. The best way is to use your web browser. To browse the archives, point your browser to: ftp://ftp.xmission.com/pub/lists/canslim/archive/ 2. (Not as convenient) via email: Send an email to majordomo@xmission.com with the following as the body of your message: "index canslim". Then send a follow up email to request an old email from either the "archive" or "latest" directory. Note that your request must be in the body of your email. For example: "get canslim latest/001" will retrieve file "001" from the "latest" directory. "get canslim archive/v01.n066" will retrieve file "v01.n066" from the "archive" dir. It's not perfect but for the price compared to other services it's not bad. The thing I like most about it is you can write your own scans to find the stocks that meet your criteria. (Simple Example, if you wanted to find only the stocks that went up $2 or more today you could write a scan to do it or even went up $2 and closed in the top 25% of today's range, etc.). It only does daily and up charts unless you give them $30 a month more. So I find stocks and then look up 15,10 and 5 minute charts on the internet or through my brokerage firm. The worst thing is they are so paranoid about someone using it on 2 computers they have a machine key so it only works on one computer. Not a big deal and I understand, except they made it so secure that sometimes if Windows crashes, locks up or does anything to the registry you have to call and get it reset. Adding new hardware makes it think it is on a different computer. Add an extra cd or dvd drive and it will only work on the one installed. Move the CD to a different drive assignment and it won't work at all. Do a system restore from a previous date and you have to get it reset. Don't dream of doing anything with a new hard drive. It really can be a pain at times. When I'm paying for something on a subscription basis I don't like to be inconvenienced. So it bothers me. I called to talk to them about it and they don't seem to care. Also they will only reset it 4 times a month. I also think that since I'm paying for it I should be able to use it on my laptop.
