hi zillagirl,
Though there is no subject line in your message, I am going to assume =
that you are having trouble opening the CANSLIMHunting spreadsheet I =
uploaded a couple of days ago. Normally when problems like this come up, =
I handle the person's question off line, as the problem is often =
specific to them. However, just in case this is a common problem....
When people get "computer garbage" opening the file it is most likely =
because they are not unzipping the file successfully. I'd recommend that =
when you are given the option to "Open" or "Save to Disk" the file from =
the website address that you first "Save to Disk." That will place a =
copy of the zipped file onto your hard drive. Now, open your Zip program =
(PKZip, WinZip, etc.--I used WinZip to compress it) and decompress the =
file. You will end up with an Excel spreadsheet which was created in the =
Windows 2000 version of Excel. If you are running an older version of =
Excel, you may have trouble opening it, as we have found the hyperlinks =
cause some grief in older versions.

Hi zillagirl,
I see that Ira has reposted a list of our many acronyms used on the =
list. Most of us are individual investors sharing a common interest in =
CANSLIM style investing. As we are not a "professional" group so to =
speak, the opinions and tools we share are simply something we have =
found personally useful. Those same things may or may not be useful to =
you depending on your style. A great place to start rounding out your =
knowledgebase and getting a feel for the "mining filters" we all discuss =
is at the IBD website. We each have our own take on things though there =
is always a common thread.

Katherine, reading your last message makes me wonder whether the Zip =

to unzip your spreadsheet and had no problem. I'm wondering whether the =
people who did have trouble were using a different Zip program than the =
one you used.

Hi Ira,
The zip program used should not make a difference, as the ZIP format is =
standardized. But, I'm more of a Mac power user (we use .SIT), so I may =
be wrong on that. I'm guessing that the problem may be stemming from the =
way the person's copy of the browser "hands off" the downloaded file for =
processing and it's why I'm assuming that saving the file to disk first =
will allow the zip program itself to do what it needs to do. Beyond =
those guesses, however, I'm clueless!

hi zillagirl,
Though there is no subject line in your message, I am going to =

When people get "computer garbage" opening the file it is most =
