  29. Welcome!  This list is for fiction related to "Buffy The Vampire 
  30. Slayer," both the TV series and the movie.  To ensure that we all get 
  31. to enjoy as much fiction as possible, please adhere to the following 
  32. guidelines, and please save them for future reference.
  33.  
  34. 1. Fiction should have Buffy characters in it and clearly be related 
  35. to Buffy.  Crossovers are great, and expected, but general 
  36. vampire/monster stories that aren't in the Buffy universe and don't 
  37. use Buffy characters belong somewhere else.
  38.  
  39. 2. Discussion of posted fiction is permitted onlist.  Please put 
  40. "DISCUSS" in your subject line.  Requests for missing story parts 
  41. should go directly to the author, and not be posted to the list.
  42.  
  43. Discussion that is not related directly to the fiction should go over 
  44. to the general Buffy list.  Discussion of fiction is expected to 
  45. follow common netiquette guidelines and use PG-13 language.
  46.  
  47. 3. No advertising of <any> items or services, Buffy related or not, 
  48. and no posting of non-story items such as .gifs, sound files, etc..  
  49. No attached files of <any> kind-- if your mailer makes your fiction 
  50. into attached files, you need to find another way to get it to the list.
  51.  
  52. 4. If you're writing a story and including advance information on a 
  53. new episode, and you're posting your story earlier than the national 
  54. viewing time, please:
  55.  
  56.      **Mark the post as a "spoiler" in the subject header.  
  57.      **Leave about twelve lines (blank or with non-spoiler info) at 
  58.           the top of the post.
  59.  
  60. This ensures that anyone who doesn't like knowing about an episode 
  61. ahead of time is "protected."  :)   The blank space is for people whose 
  62. mailers automatically open up the next piece of mail, without giving 
  63. them a chance to see "spoiler" in the header.
  64.  
  65. Spoiler warnings are not necessary after the start of the episode's 
  66. national viewing time, which is currently set at 9 p.m. Mondays, 
  67. Eastern Standard Time.  Spoiler warnings are not necessary for reruns.
  68.  
  69. 5.  This list is absolutely NOT for erotic fiction.  <Nothing> stronger 
  70. than sexually PG-13 material is to be posted to the list under any 
  71. circumstances.  A story may be R rated for violence or language, however.
  72.  
  73. If you have a question about something's suitability for posting, feel 
  74. free to ask one of the listowners.  Sending sexually explicit material 
  75. will get you immediately and permanently unsubscribed.  No exceptions.
  76.  
  77. 6.  By subscribing and/or posting to this list, you acknowledge that 
  78. Buffy the Vampire slayer and all characters associated with either 
  79. the televised series or the motion picture were created by Josh Whedon 
  80. and are owned by Mutant Enemy productions, Kuzui Productions, 
  81. Sandollar Productions, and 20th Century Fox.  All stories posted to 
  82. this list are for entertainment purposes only, are not sold for profit 
  83. of any kind, and are not intended to infringe on any copyrights.

  85. 7.  When posting stories to the list, please follow the following 
  86. formatting guidelines
  87. - --No story parts longer than 250 lines
  88. - --No more than three (3) story parts posted per day
  89. - --No lines longer than 75 characters
  90. - --Turn off your "smart quotes"-- many readers receive these as garbage 
  91. or weird symbols
  92. - --Put the title of the story in the subject header, indicate if it's a 
  93. multipart story, and if so what part this is.  Example:   Buffy Meets 
  94. Godzilla (2/65) indicates that this post is part two of a 65 part story.
  95.  
  96. 8. If a story is rated "R" for language/violence, indicate this in an 
  97. introduction.  For example, "There's a really bloody fight scene at 
  98. the end of this part" or "if you don't like dismemberment, stop 
  99. reading now!"  If there's <any> chance that someone might be disturbed 
  100. by something in your story (even if it's not rated R) please include 
  101. some kind of warning up front.
  102.  
  103. 9.  And last, but not least, the listowners reserve the right to deny 
  104. subscription (new, renewed, or continued) to the list for any 
  105. individual(s).
  106.  
  107. PLEASE NOTE:  not following any or all of these rules will get you 
  108. the following:
  109.  
  110. **First offense:  offender is unsubscribed for one week.  
  111. **Second offense:  offender is unsubscribed to the Buffyfic list for a 
  112. minimum of three months.  
  113. **If the offender returns and does it again, they're offlist 
  114. permanently.
  115.  
  116. As noted above, posting sexually explicit material is the exception -- 
  117. you go straight to permanent unsubbing.
  118.

  198.         "She came home today," he said to the back of the head.
  199.         "When?" the blonde asked.
  200.         "A little after one. She went straight to her mother's."
  201.         "Leave me," the other responded, standing up.
  202.         "But-"
  203.         "Oh, right, you want your money," Spike said, turning around.
  204. "Here,"
  205. he continued, crossing the room and putting several hundred dollars into
  206. the trembling palm of the nervous man before him. "Now leave."
  207.         The smaller man took it, counted it, and turned to leave, only
  208. halted
  209. by the clipped British voice.
  210.         "Oh, and, Willie, talk and I'll-"
  211.         "Have my 'guts for garters'. I know the drill, Spike. Besides,"
  212. he
  213. said, pocketing the cash, "who am I going to tell?"
  214.         Spike once again turned his back to Willie and heard his
  215. footsteps grow
  216. fainter and fainter. He walked over to the bed and paced before it,
  217. glaring at the decor of the room. The sparse nature of his surroundings
  218. disturbed him. It dripped of Angelus. 
  219.         He walked down the hall, knocking over the statues and vases
  220. that
  221. Angelus had treasured so much. He chuckled to himself as he heard them
  222. shatter on the hard, marble floor. He turned a corner and readied
  223. himself for the sights ahead. He hadn't been in this part of the house
  224. in months. He stepped off of the hard floor and onto the carpet,
  225. entering the room where Angelus had tortured the librarian. He paused
  226. for a moment before parting the curtain. He stepped into the next room
  227. and saw Acathla; the demon that Angelus had promised would end the
  228. world. 
  229.         His mind drifted back to that morning. He remembered the
  230. absolute joy
  231. he felt as he beat his sire to near unconsciousness. He had landed
  232. several good blows before he'd been interrupted by Drusilla. A smile
  233. played at his lips as he remembered the elation he'd felt. The last time
  234. he felt that way in months.
  235.         "Didn't work out quite like you planned, eh, Angelus?" he said
  236. to the
  237. empty room. "You weren't countin' on 'Roller-boy' to switch sides, were
  238. you?" He reached out and touched the stone demon. "Man, do I wish I
  239. could 'ave seen the look on your face when she ran the two of you
  240. through."
  241.         The 'she' he spoke of was Buffy. Spike had come back to
  242. Sunnydale only
  243. a few days after leaving and found the Slayer gone and her friends
  244. sitting ducks. Many nights he had watched them hunt his kind down only
  245. to fail miserably at staking their foes. More often than not, he had to
  246. stifle laughter while watching them. He almost felt sorry for the Scooby
  247. Gang. After all, they were just normal kids. They didn't have the
  248. strength or the technique required to do the job. He had to give them
  249. credit, though; they were at least trying to fill in for the Slayer.
  250.         Spike wondered where she was. Ever since their truce, he had
  251. found
  252. himself thinking about her more often than he cared to admit. The
  253. thoughts had grown more frequent since Dru left. Dru hadn't understood
  254. that he had done it for her. Drusilla never understood that everything
  255. he did was for her. She wasn't able to see the big picture. All that
  256. mattered to her was the moment. She only cared that 'Daddy' wasn't
  257. around anymore. A smile crossed his lips as he thought of his sire
  258. writhing in Hell.
  259.         "That'll teach you, Angelus," he said, "I tried to tell you, but
  260. you
  261. wouldn't listen to me. Someone always gets hurt. Love'll kill you."
  262.         He still didn't know exactly what had happened after he left.
  263. All he
  264. knew was that Buffy had managed to kill the love of her life and saved
  265. the world from destruction. He had visited her mother and found out that
  266. Buffy had run away. He had almost killed Joyce right then and there. She
  267. had given Buffy no choice but to run away. The silly git had told her
  268. not to come back if she left. Spike wouldn't blame her if she never came
  269. back to Sunnydale. He knew she would, though. No matter how hard she
  270. thought fighting demons was, it was nothing compared to fighting them
  271. alone. No family. No friends. No hope. Take all that away and what's
  272. left? Emptiness. Depression. Grief. She would be back. He had counted on
  273. it. Today was the day.
  274.         So the Slayer was back in town. He wondered how she would react
  275. to him.
  276. He didn't want to go back to being the hunter. Or was he the hunted? He
  277. didn't know anymore. He didn't care, either. He just wanted for her to
  278. look at him as more than an enemy. He wanted to look into those big eyes
  279. of hers and see acceptance. He knew she was capable of it, after all,
  280. she had loved Angelus. No she hadn't. She had loved Angel, not Angelus.
  281. She would never accept him without a soul.
  282.         "You know, some girls want a guy with a BMW. Me, I 'ave t' fall
  283. for the
  284. one who expects a bloody soul. What is it with you, Spike? First it's
  285. crazy girls, now it's Slayers. When are you goin' to learn? Time to
  286. start practicin' what you preach. Just kill the bitch and be done with
  287. it," he said, casting a glance over his shoulder as he left the room.
