  49. Love's Revival Part 1
  50.  
  51.         "Angel, you must eat something. Come with us, we can find you 
  52. someone young and sweet."  
  53.         "I'm not hungry, Dru!" Angel snapped and returned to his 
  54. thoughts.  
  55.         Dru's smile faded to a pout as she accepted his rejection. 
  56. "Spike, I'm worried about Angel. He's growing weak; he hasn't eaten for 
  57. days.
  58.         "Don't be, my sweet. Angel's a big boy, he can handle himself. 
  59. Come now, we feed."  Spike led Dru out of the bedroom. They left the 
  60. warehouse with several vampire minions following.  Angel was sitting on 
  61. a chair in the corner of the room. He hadn't left that spot for days.  
  62.         "Dammit Savarah! Why her?" Angel asked aloud, knowing that no 
  63. one could hear him.

  67.         "Giles!" Willow screamed as she ran into the library.
  68.         "What? What is it?" Giles came rushing out of his office, 
  69. startled by her yelling.
  70.         "The new um..." Willow paused for a moment, realizing how 
  71. painful what she was about to say was going to be. 'No, stop. He has to 
  72. know. Buffy.  She needs this, she needs him.' Willow gathered all her 
  73. confidence and continued to speak nervously. "The new computer science 
  74. teacher found this when she was cleaning up. I checked it out. It's 
  75. Angel's curse," she said, handing him a small yellow disk. 
  76.         Giles was awestruck. His mind flashed between Jenny and Angel. 
  77. He closed his eyes as he tried to put her image out of his mind, but he 
  78. couldn't. It was too strong; their love was too strong.  "Cure? Are 
  79. you sure?"
  80.         "Positive.  If what this says is right, all we need is an orb 
  81. of Thesaluh, and Angel."
  82.         'Angel. That bastard killed Jenny. No!' Giles stopped his 
  83. accusations mid-thought. He knew it wasn't Angel. It was Angelus. He 
  84. also knew how easy it would be to blame Angel for what Angelus had done.

  108. Love's Revival Part 3
  109.  
  110.      "Buffy!" Giles walked down the stairs from the stacks. Buffy 
  111. entered the library, her friends trailing cautiously behind her.  She 
  112. knew that they had something to hide, and she was going to find 
  113. out what. 
  114.         "Giles, what's going on?  We had this talk a long time ago. No 
  115. keeping secrets!" Her voice grew harsh as she approached Giles.
  116.         "Well, um, Buffy, we found something," Giles attempted to 
  117. explain.
  118.         "About what?"
  119.         "About Angel." Buffy could see the pain it caused him to even 
  120. mention his name.  Angel. She couldn't stop thinking about him.  His 
  121. eyes, his hair, his hands. The same hands he had used to kill Ms. 
  122. Calendar. The same hands that had held the bodies of all his helpless 
  123. victims.
  124.         "What about him?" She asked, trying to sound angry for Giles' 
  125. sake. 
  126.         "We found a way to bring his soul back," Giles said painfully. 
  127. Buffy couldn't believe what he was saying; she didn't know whether to
  128. be happy or angry. Angel was now two different people. One that she 
  129. loved, and one that she hated.  After he had killed Ms. Calendar, 
  130. she'd wanted him dead. He was going to die and there was nothing 
  131. stopping her from doing it- nothing but her love for him.  Buffy didn't 
  132. know how to handle this news; it was too much for her, after all that 
  133. had happened in the past week.
  134.         "I gotta go," Buffy said, tears pooling up in her eyes.  She 
  135. ran out of the library leaving her friends standing in silence.  
  136. Everything had changed; Ms. Calendar's death, Savarah, Angel's cure- 
  137. it was too much for *all* of them to handle. 
  138.  
  139.         "I'm sure Buffy will be alright.  You have to understand what 
  140. she's going through right now."
  141.         "Yeah, but Giles, she's keeping this bottled up like she 
  142. always does," Xander said, concerned for Buffy.  
  143.         "I'll talk to her about it," Giles said placing a stack 
  144. of books on the table.
  145.         "Thanks Giles," Willow said, trying unconvincingly to sound 
  146. reassured.
  147.         "You two go to class. Tell Buffy I want to talk to her during 
  148. 5th period. She's got a free; we'll talk about it then."
  149.         "Okay. Come on lets go," Xander said, slightly tugging at 
  150. Willow's shirt.
  151.         "Buffy!" Willow called as she spotted her across the quad. 
  152.         "Hey, guys!" Buffy said as she approached them with a smile.
  153.         "Glad to see you're looking better," Xander said with a smile.
  154.         "Yeah, I'm doing okay." Buffy was constantly thinking about 
  155. Angel. About Savarah.  She tried to hide the thoughts that plagued her, 
  156. but her friends knew better.
  157.         "Oh, Buffy, I almost forgot. Giles said he wants to see you 
  158. during your free period."
  159.         "Okay. Well, I've gotta get to Trig. Catch you later." Buffy 
  160. walked off, her face fading to a pale white as she suddenly felt sick 
  161. to her stomach.  She ignored it and continued on to class.
  162.

  165.         "Giles, look, I'm fine."
  166.         "Buffy, you were nearly killed. Do I have to remind you of what 
  167. happened the last time?
  168.         "I'm not going to make that mistake again. The last thing I 
  169. want to do is hurt my friends again.  I'm fine. Savarah is dead, I'm 
  170. alive, and everything is just fine."
  171.         "Buffy, normally I would let you get away with that, but this 
  172. time it's not going to work.  Angelus saving you from near death has to 
  173. be tearing you apart.  Don't alienate your friends when you need them 
  174. the most."
  175.         "Yeah, can I go now?"
  176.         "Buffy, wh..."
  177.         "I gotta go Giles, I'm not feeling very well."
  178.         "Very well then. But we're not done here."
  179.         "Yeah." Buffy said quietly as she rushed out of the library; 
  180. her stomach was churning. She snuck out of school and walked home.   
  181. She stumbled up the stairs, her whole body aching; but she had barely 
  182. made it to the top of the stairs before she collapsed, unconscious.

  195. part. April/May/June are fun months for me, and I have 
  196. dozens of things to do, so I can't make any guarantees 
  197. about the rest of the year. I'll *try.* I wrote this a long 
  198. while ago, and I thought I might as well send it before 
  199. it rots in my mailbox. Enjoy!

  209. Welcome to my story. It takes place ten years 
  210. into the future, but IÆm not telling you whatÆs happened in 
  211. advance. IÆm going to reveal that as time goes on in

  220. Part Fourteen: "Uninvited Guest"

  223. Xander opened the door, expecting to be a buffer yet again.
  224.  
  225. Suddenly, he was everybodyÆs hero, and he wasnÆt so sure 
  226. he liked it.
  227.  
  228. What he was expecting, he couldnÆt say. Tired kind eyes behind 
  229. familiar spectacles. Instead, he saw only blackness beyond the door.
  230. He turned the outside light on, but still all he saw were the bushes
  231. and the snow-covered fountain lit up and far off. 
  232.  
  233. One of the shadows moved.
  234.  
  235. "Hello?"
  236.  
  237. Nothing.
  238.  
  239. "Hello?"
  240.  
  241. "Xander." The voice froze him instantly. He didnÆt dare say it.
  242.  
  243. She looked up into the light and flinched. The curls sparkled like
  244. rubies under it cascading into the darkness. Her blue eyes were 
  245. glistening with tears unshed, and the pink mouth was closed; 
  246. taught. 
  247.  
  248. "Xander?" 
  249.  
  250. She seemed to shake as she spoke. Every movement was tremulous
  251. and agitated. 
  252.  
  253. "Willow," he labeled her as a child labels the world around him.
  254. He was waiting for a contradiction; a logical clarity that never came.
  255.  
  256. Instead, she turned her face away into the obscurity of the night and 
  257. said nothing. 
  258.  
  259. "Willow?" 
  260.  
  261. "Maybe this wasnÆt such a good idea."
  262.  
  263. "Howà"
  264.  
  265. "I donÆt know."
  266.  
  267. Suddenly bells went off in his head as he remembered the blur of 
  268. that dark night years ago. "Oh my God. No."
  269.  
  270. "Xander, I wouldnÆt have come here, but I think you could use
  271. my help. Maybe I should go."
  272.  
  273. "No, Willà" He opened the door.
  274.  
  275. "You have to invite me in," she reminded him guiltily.
  276.  
  277. He backed away from the door slowly, not sure who to trust.
  278. Sure, she looked like Willow, but hadnÆt Buffy been fooled
  279. byà

  281. "Xander?"
  282.  
  283. "Willow, how do I know that-"
  284.  
  285. She was quietly weeping on the porch now.
  286.  
  287. "I didnÆt meanà" He swallowed hard and looked back
  288. at her eyes. Frightened. She probably could rip him to
  289. shreds if she wanted to and she was frightened. 
  290.  
  291. It had been his fault, and if she wasnÆt legit, this would
  292. be his fault too.
  293.  
  294. But he opened the door and invited death in. 
  295.  
  296. She waited for a moment and then stepped in slowly. She 
  297. looked cold and tired. Like sheÆd been running forever. 
  298. He almost jerked away from her as she was entering, but 
  299. held back with everything he had. 
  300.  
  301. He was unprepared for her crushing embrace. She was 
  302. crying again now.
  303.  
  304. "IÆve missed you *so much*à"
  305.  
  306. He didnÆt know what to say, even when Cordelia came out
  307. into the foyer.
  308.  
  309. "Willow," he whispered over the vampireÆs shoulder, and left
  310. her to wonder.

  345. 1. This one is about length. Say I have a chapter that's, say, ten pages long
  346. on my word processor. When I save it to text and import it, that's a
  347. lottalotta lines. How should I label the parts of the chapter, then, when I
  348. break them into 250-line pieces? (Because the list guidelines say no more than
  349. 250 lines per post). Would something like:  (1a/20), (1b/20), etc, be
  350. satisfactory? And if I were to do that, should it also say how many parts-of-
  351. parts? So it would look like ([1a/a-d]/20, meaning "part one-a of parts one
  352. thru d, of twenty"? Help! I have a long fic that I'm working on, but with the
  353. way the chapters are they'll be longer than 250 lines and I'm stressing about
  354. this!!!!

  356. 2. This one is a bit shorter. :) Being new to the list, I was just wondering
  357. if you guys have ever tried doing a round-robin story or not, and if not, if
  358. there's any interest in trying something like that, because I'd be willing to
  359. coordinate it if there were.

  382. another "Angel gets his soul back" story which I wrote to convince myself
  383. that Angel could be good again.  It's kind of long and I'm sorry about that
  384. you all.

  387. my world for a week and see how much fic you can put out.  Anyways, today

  392. The Cure   (8/14)
  393.  
  394. Buffy arrived at the door and Willow opened it for her.
  395.  
  396. "How'd it go?" Willow asked.
  397.  
  398. "Okay, I did two quick stakes in the graveyard.  No Angel sightings," Buffy
  399. replied as they headed downstairs.
  400.  
  401. "Buffy!  Did everything go alright?" Giles asked.
  402.  
  403. "Yeah, fine.  Didn't see Angel.  What's up here?"
  404.  
  405. "Well, I've been doing more research on Angel.  Nothing we don't already
  406. know.  It's quite late Buffy.  You and Willow should turn in.  Everyone
  407. else did.  Xander's in Ox's room, Cordelia's in the living room.  You and
  408. Willow can sleep in there," Giles replied, picking up a different book.
  409.  
  410. "Giles, sleep.  We don't have a major crisis right this second.  Take the
  411. opportunity to take a nap.  You need sleep too," Buffy told him.  Giles
  412. smiled.
  413.  
  414. "I suppose you're right Buffy.  Let me look through another book or two.
  415. Then I'll go to sleep."
  416.  
  417. "Promise?"
  418.  
  419. "Alright, I promise."
  420.  
  421. "Night, Giles."
  422.  
  423. "Goodnight Buffy, goodnight Willow.  Sleep well."
  424.  
  425. "Thanks Giles.  You too," Buffy headed back up the stairs.  Buffy quickly
  426. charged into her PJs and got ready for bed.  She got into one of the
  427. makeshift beds Oz had set up.  Willow turned to her.

  429. "Buffy, are you really okay?"  Willow asked, concerned for her friend.
  430.  
  431. "Yeah I'm okay.  We're camping out at Oz's to protect us from Angel, who
  432. switched to the other side because I made a big mistake.  Yeah, I'm just
  433. great."

  435. "Buffy, it's not your fault.  You didn't know it was going to happen.  I
  436. know I've said it before, but it's true," Willow said, trying to comfort
  437. Buffy.
  438.  
  439. "Thanks Will.  Hearing you say that kind of helps.  Now go to sleep.  You
  440. need rest too."
  441.  
  442. "Okay.  Night Buffy."
  443.  
  444. "Night Willow."
  445.

  448. Angel stormed back to the warehouse, Drucilla in tow.  He was not in a good
  449. mood.  He hadn't found Willow.  He hadn't drained her of her blood.  He
  450. didn't have a present for the slayer.
  451.  
  452. "Did you get the slayer something nice?  She's not going to fall apart
  453. Angelus.  She's going to come after you with a stake and then POOF!  Angel
  454. dust," Spike said when they came in.
  455.  
  456. "No, I didn't get her anything.  I couldn't find the perfect gift.  I don't
  457. know what happened to her."
  458.

  461. Jenny woke up in a strange bed.  She got out of bed right away, eager to
  462. know if they had the spell.  When she left the room, she saw Alice a little
  463. way off. 
  464.  
  465. "Alice," she called out.  Alice turned.
  466.  
  467. "Good morning Janna," Alice replied, waiting for Jenny to catch up to her.
  468.  
  469. "Is there any news?  Have they got the spell?" Jenny asked, eager and excited.
  470.  
  471. "The elderwoman said this morning that as soon as you woke up to bring you
  472. to her.  Come with me," Alice said, leading Jenny along.
  473.  
  474. "In there," Alice pointed to a room.  Jenny smiled and went in.
  475.  
  476. "Ah, Janna, you are here.  We have some work to do.  By this evening, I
  477. believe we will have the spell by tonight.  Very, ver soon Angel will have
  478. his soul.  But now, there is work to be done."

  483. Buffy poured herself a cup of coffee.  She smiled at everyone. 
  484.  
  485. "Ah, sunlight, our old friend," Buffy said, sipping her coffee.  Everyone
  486. was sitting around the table.

  488. "Guys, we need to pack up and move out.  Oz, can we work out of here
  489. tonight?" Buffy asked.
  490.  
  491. "Sure, that's fine."
  492.  
  493. "Okay guys, move everything into the basement.  Try to keep everything as
  494. inconspicuous as possible."
  495.  
  496. "Yes sir, general buffy sir!" Xander joked.  Buffy smiled.
  497.  
  498. "Okay troops, move out."
  499.

  502. Jenny's day passed in a sea of research and old books.  She, the elderwoman
  503. and a few others of the tribe worked together, compiling magic.  Many old
  504. Romani spells were brought out.  Long and careful work was carried out.
  505. Finally, the elderwoman closed her book with a thud.
  506.  
  507. "We are finished.  We have the spell.  I will collect the necessary things.
  508.  Janna, we will leave in the morning.  We will bring Alice, she had been
  509. trained in magic.  Now Janna, go to sleep.  You will need much energy
  510. tomorrow."
  511.

  514. At lunch, Buffy went to the library.  
  515.  
  516. "Hey Giles."
  517.  
  518. "Hello Buffy.  How was your morning?"
  519.  
  520. "Okay.  Giles, am I strong enough?  Be honest with me, am I strong enough
  521. to beat Angle.  Am I trained well enough?"  Giles looked slightly shocked
  522. at the question.
  523.  
  524. "Buffy, I have nothing but respect and admiration for you talent at
  525. fighting.  You have incredible skill.  In saying that, we really have not
  526. done very much training.  I think that if you faced Angel now, you could
  527. win.  It's probable that you would win, but it could be close.  Overall,
  528. yes you're strong enough, you defeated the Master Buffy.  That's no small
  529. feat.  Yes, you have the technical skill, but you have fought with Angel
  530. and he knows how you fight," Giles replied.  Buffy looked at Giles.  She
  531. thought for a few moments.  She rubbed her temples and walked around the
  532. library.  Suddenly, she turned to Giles.
  533.  
  534. "Train me," she said, "I don't care how long it takes, I have to be able to
  535. beat Angel."
  536.

  554. The digest version of the list collects the individual posts that are sent
  555. to the list and sends them out when they reach a certain critical mass.
  556. This is nice for people with small mailboxes-- they just get one (or a
  557. couple more than one, if things are busy) post a day, rather than several
  558. individual posts.
