TITLE: The Things We Do For Love (1/5)
AUTHOR: Melinda Frango
EMAIL ADDY: Anexsin@aol.com
DISTRIBUTION: Please, ask first.
FEEDBACK: Greatly appreciated.
RATING: PG, for the usual Buffy language.
SPOILER: All episodes have happened, but major spoilers for "Passion"
DISCLAIMER: Anything that has to do with the Buffyverse in anyway,
belongs to Joss Whedon, WB, etc. Only the story is mine.
SUMMARY: The gang restore Angel's soul, aided by the yellow disk.
AUTHOR'S NOTE: I know I already wrote a story in which Angel gets his
soul back, but this one is a direct sequel to my other two stories "Moments
of Truth" and "Unexpected Confrontation" and is in no way related to my
other one. This one takes place immediately afterwards, so if you didn't
read those two, you wil be confused with this one. If you want to read them,
email me privately and I'll send them to you. Oh, and this * represents
thoughts.

"What kind of news?" Buffy asked curiously.
Buffy could hear Giles take in a deep breath on the other end of the
phone line, then he continued.
"I just read the letter from Jenny; it says she was working on a cure to
restore Angel's soul, and that's why he came after her," Giles informed
her.
"B-But she said it wasn't possible, and now she's dead so the cure is lost
once again," Buffy sounded dejected.
"She said he destroyed that dread machine and the printouts, but she
managed to save it to a yellow thingy...a.."
"Disk," Buffy supplied.
"Yes, that's it. It's in the computer room somewhere," Giles finished.
"Are you saying if we find it you're willing to give Angel back his soul?"
Buffy questioned, hope rising up within her.
"Y-yes, it was her last wish. I want to do this for her."
"Well tomorrow's Saturday so if you're willing to let me skip my training
session, we can gather everyone up and look for the disk."
"I see good reasoning in that," Giles agreed.
"Good," Buffy said perkily. She was happy that she got out of training
for a day, and even happier that there may be a remote possibility of
bringing Angel back. After seeing him today she knew there was a
chance. Her heart told her so.
"Don't get your hopes up to much, Buffy. This could not end up the
way we want it to," Giles warned.
"I know, Giles. I know."
"Get some sleep, Buffy."
"You to," Buffy ordered. "Goodnight."
"Goodnight, see you tomorrow."
"Bye."
"Bye," Giles ended the conversation.
After Buffy placed the reciever onto it's cradle she smiled brightly.
"We're going to bring you back, Angel. I won't let you down. I love you,"
she whispered.
"I love you too," she faintly heard, like a breath on the wind.
And that's when she knew Angel was watching over her, and waiting to
come back to her.

After saying goodbye to Buffy, Giles hung up the phone, and settled back
down onto the couch. He closed his eyes and whispered, "I hope your
happy now Jenny."
"I am Rupert, I am," her assurance resonated around him.
He smiled and fell into calm, peaceful slumber.

Angelus was fuming as he ran in the direction of the library. Just the
thought of having his soul restored was repulsing to him. When he killed
the Gypsy, he had thought he put an end to even a remote chance of that
ritual being found, but infinitely he was wrong.
"That's what that twit meant when he decided to pop up," he mumbled
to himself. "Can I be sure? He knew, my damn soul knew he'd have
control again, but I won't let it happen. Tonight they all die."
When Angelus reached the front steps of the school, he slipped into
his vampire guise, and with a feral grin made his way to the library.
Little did he know that his approach to the situation was leading him
to his own demise.
~~~~~~~~~~~
Giles, Buffy, and the rest of the slayerettes were ready for Angelus'
arrival, so when he burst through the library doors and strode through
with a look of pure hatred and anger etched upon his vampire face, they
knew it was time.
"Give me the damn orb!" he screamed. "I won't let you return it, not
again!" he growled loudly.
"You don't have a choice," Buffy replied, her voice tight with conflicting
emotions. Hate for the creature standing in front of her, and hope that
her love would soon replace it.
He snarled viciously and lept at her. He grabbed her arms in a death
grip, and forced her against the wall. He trapped her between his body
and the wall, and held his face menacingly a few inches from hers.
"Give me the orb, or die now," he hissed.
"Go to hell, you sick bastard," she hissed in return.
He laughed emotionlessly. "Then you die," were his last words as his
fangs descended towards the soft flesh of her neck.
Her struggling ceased when she realized they were to no avail, his
hands had her arms pinned tightly to her sides and his body pinned
hers against the wall. Just when she was going to surrender the hope
she held onto for such a long time she saw Giles finish reciting the end
of the ritual, over Angelus' shoulder.
The orb began to shake violently, while the etheral glow inside began to
grow brighter. The slayerettes gripped each others hands tightly as they
watched in fascination, until they had to shield their eyes from the
blinding white light that began to eminate from within it.
Angelus was so consumed with the thought of ending Buffy's life that he
was oblivious to what was going on around him.
Before any one knew what was happening, the orb shattered and the
light which was stored inside directed itself at Angelus. He jerked
his head up, and stared at Buffy with horror in his eyes.
"No," he whispered quietly, shaking his head in denial. As if the simple
act would ward off what was happening to him. "No!" he yelled louder as
he sank to his knees.
The light which had now wrapped itself around the demon gave off one
final blinding blaze before seeping into the body, leaving the vampire
laying on the floor unconscious.
The others rubbed their eyes with their fists trying to get there eyes to
adjust once again, while Buffy checked her neck nervously for marks,
and when none could be found she kneeled beside what would hopefully
be her Angel.
"Angel," she whispered, gently shaking him. "Angel, can you hear me?"
He moaned quietly and slowly opened his eyes. "Buffy," he murmured.
One look into his eyes and she knew it was her Angel, she smiled
happily and nodded slightly as the tears began to spill over. She
helped him sit up against the wall for support, and then he brought
his knees up to his chest and rested his elbow against them which
held his pounding head.
"How are you feeling?" she asked concerned. The others simply
watched.
"Like I got hit by a really big truck," he murmured as he made an
effort to stand up.
Buffy helped him stand up, and he muttered his thanks. Then he
looked around out all the others standing there watching him and
he sighed.
"Thank you...I think."
Giles nodded his head. "Like I told you before Angel you always have
a place here."
"I'll remember that," he replied as he headed towards the exit.
"Wh..where are you going?" Buffy asked hurriedly.
"I-I need to be alone for awhile. To think, to clear my head, I..."
"I understand," Buffy stated.
He nodded his thanks and stumbled out of the library still clutching his
head in his hand.
Buffy looked towards her friends and chocked back a sob. "Well....,"
she trailed off.
"Come on, let's follow him," Xander offered with a slight smile.
