  62. Chapter 14

  65. Later that day
  66. Cordelia's house
  67.  
  68. Cordelia smiled as Willow finished putting the last of the dressings on her
  69. arms.  Thankfully the blood on her face had been mostly from her arms and
  70. she only had a few bruisers.  She moved her head over and rested in on
  71. Xander's chest.  They were half sitting, half lying on the lounge in the
  72. living room.
  73.  
  74. Buffy and Giles emerged from the kitchen with drinks for everyone.  Buffy
  75. raised a glass, " I didn't think we would be here right now and I don't
  76. know what the future will have in store for us.  I can say however that I
  77. am so proud to have you as my friends.  I love you guys."
  78.  
  79. "Hear Hear," Willow added.
  80.  
  81. ...........................
  82.  
  83. Xander came down the stairs into the living room.  Buffy and Giles were
  84. there, Willow and Oz having already gone home.
  85.  
  86. "She O.K.?" Buffy asked.
  87.  
  88. "Yep, she's sleeping.  I'm hoping that she doesn't have any nightmares,"
  89. Xander replied.
  90.  
  91. "I think that even if she does, it will be less traumatic than what she has
  92. just been through," Giles said, "did she say anything to you?"
  93.  
  94. "Not really, apart from the fact that I was meant to be the one taken from
  95. the Bronze.  I think Angel had thought that she wouldn't be a big enough
  96. bait for you to come, Buffy," Xander said.
  97.  
  98. "Well it looks like Angel does not know you as well as he thinks Buffy,"
  99. Giles replied, " and certainly won't underestimate you again Xander.  I
  100. wish you had told us what you were planning."
  101.  
  102. Xander looked down.
  103.  
  104. "Xander?"  Buffy asked.
  105.  
  106. He looked up, his eyes tear stained.  "I was so scared.  I couldn't tell
  107. you what I was planning, because for one I didn't know if I would go
  108. through with it and also you wouldn't have let me"
  109.  
  110. 'Well maybe, maybe not" Giles interjected.
  111.  
  112. "No you don't understand.  What happened wasn't my original plan.  I
  113. thought Cordelia was dead.  I didn't have your confidence that she would
  114. still be alive when we got there.  So I filled the needle with Holy Water
  115. and kept it in my pocket.  My only plan was a selfish one.  I was going to
  116. kill Angel.  I didn't care about the mission, I wanted revenge.  It was
  117. only when I got there and saw everyone fighting as hard as they could to
  118. rescue her that I knew I had to do something else."
  119.  
  120. Buffy moved over to him and put an arm around his shoulders, "You are being
  121. too hard on yourself, those feelings are very normal," she said.
  122.  
  123. "Yes," Giles said softly, "I should know."
  124.  
  125. "The point is you came through and I refuse to put it down to your
  126. experience last Halloween," Buffy gave him a hug.  She looked at Giles, 'I
  127. think we should be going".
  128.  
  129. "Yes we should," Giles agreed as he got up.
  130.  
  131. Buffy turned to Xander, "Are you going to be able to look after Cordelia?"
  132.  
  133. "Yes that won't be a problem. Her folks are away till Sunday night, so
  134. hopefully we will have a good cover story sorted out by then," Xander said
  135. with a smile.
  136.  
  137. Xander let Buffy and Giles out the front door and locked it.  He went up
  138. the stairs to Cordelia's bedroom.  She was still sleeping peacefully.  He
  139. got out of his jeans and shirt and slipped into bed beside her, wrapping
  140. his arms around her.  Her body seemed to move back to him as he held her
  141. tight.
  142.  
  143. Lying there Xander could almost believe they didn't have a trouble in the
  144. world.

  189. Chapter 13

  191.  
  192. "Oh my god!" Buffy said as she saw the room fill up with vampires, "Giles,
  193. our plan has gone a bit out of the window, what do we do?"
  194.  
  195. "I don't know Buffy, try and get everyone closer to the door as we fight
  196. them off, it may be our only chance," he replied.
  197.  
  198. Buffy tried to get them all moving but in doing that the first couple of
  199. vampires attacked, she suddenly had two of them on her.  She got in a few
  200. kicks enabling her to survey the area.  Giles, Willow and Xander were all
  201. fighting off vampires.  She knew they could not last much longer.  The
  202. vampires had gathered in a group in front of them, almost like a pack of
  203. hyenas waiting for the lions to leave the scraps.
  204.  
  205. Xander kicked the vampire away and then staked the vampire who was
  206. attacking Willow in the back.  He grabbed Willow and placed her next to
  207. Cordelia and Oz. "Stay here!" he said.  He looked up and also noticed the
  208. pack in front of them.  He also noticed Angel, who had been writhing on the
  209. floor in agony had now got to his feet and looked like he was preparing to
  210. attack, "Maybe that was why they were waiting," he wondered.  He knocked
  211. his front pocket and remembered the little surprise he had planned for
  212. Angel.  He quickly thought about it and decided there was no other choice.
  213. We ran over and grabbed the last bottle of Holy Water.
  214.  
  215. Buffy saw him do it, it between kicking another vampire, "What are doing
  216. Xander?"
  217.  
  218. "Just hold on for a minute, I'll get you out of here," he replied.
  219.  
  220. "Xander!" Cordelia yelled when she noticed he was moving towards the pack.
  221. Xander did not acknowledge her.  He didn't want to face her for fear he
  222. would not be able to get through with this.  The vampires looked surprised
  223. that one of the group was moving to face them.  The delay did not last
  224. long, as they moved forward, Xander sprayed the last remaining water from
  225. the bottle, showering the vast majority of them.  He knew however that it
  226. would not be enough to kill them, or even immobilize them for long.  He got
  227. however the desired effect when they started worrying more about their
  228. burning faces than his friends.  He took his chance and went threw the
  229. pack, straight to Angel.
  230.  
  231. Angel had seen Xander coming but in this haze that was his eyesight now, he
  232. didn't see Xander clearly.  Angel struck out at the blur that was Xander.
  233. It missed as Xander ducked and leg swept Angel's legs out from under him.
  234. Xander jumped on top of Angel pounding on him.
  235.  
  236. "Spike!" Angel shouted.
  237.  
  238. "Sorry to disappoint you, Spike has already taken off, "Xander informed him
  239. with glee, "It's just you and me," Xander reached into his pocket and
  240. pulled out a syringe.
  241.  
  242. Angel started to turn himself over when he felt a pin prick in his back.
  243.  
  244. "Now I don't know if this will kill you or not, but judging by what the
  245. Holy Water has done to your face, I would say injecting it into you heart
  246. is not going to give you just heartburn."
  247.  
  248. Angel tried to move again, but felt the needle being pressed further in.
  249.  
  250. ...........................
  251.  
  252. Buffy had succeeded in keeping the remaining vampires at bay, but now the
  253. main group had started to recover.  She got her friends together behind her
  254. and started to move towards the doorway.
  255.  
  256. "We can't leave Xander," Cordelia said.
  257.  
  258. "Cordy I don't want to leave him but he did what he did to give us a
  259. chance", Buffy replied, 'so come-on we need to get you all out."
  260.  
  261. A couple of vampires had seen them moving away and rushed over to stop
  262. them.  They blocked the exit and forced them back to the center of the room.
  263.  
  264. ..............................................
  265.  
  266. Xander saw that his friends were trapped again.  It was time to see if it
  267. his actions had been worth it.  
  268.  
  269. "Get up," he screamed at Angel.
  270.  
  271. "Stuff you," he replied.
  272.  
  273. "O.K. have it your way, either you get up and order your friends to let
  274. mine go, or I am going to turn your insides to dust soup," he said while
  275. pushing the needle in as far as it would go, to emphasize the point.
  276.  
  277. Angel thought about it for a split second.  His instinct for survival was
  278. highly compromised by his hatred of this punk getting one up on him.
  279.  
  280. The vampires were only a few feet away from Buffy, they were out of Holy
  281. Water and unlike before they looked like they would attack at once.
  282.  
  283. "Stop!" Angel yelled.
  284.  
  285. The vampires nearest to him heard him.  They immediately stopped, but the
  286. other did not.  Xander saw this and got Angel to his feet, "Remember all I
  287. have to do is push on this plunger and you are history, if any of my
  288. friends are hurt I will do it.".  He led Angel over to the pack.
  289.  
  290. "Stop!" he yelled again.   This time the remaining vampires heard him and
  291. turned around.
  292.  
  293. "O.K. Dead Guys," Xander shouted to the throng of vampires, "we are
  294. leaving, If you try to stop us, your leader will probably liquefy before
  295. your eyes.  Now unless you have a ladle ready I suggest you get out of our
  296. way."
  297.  
  298. It wasn't just the vampires that looked at him incredulously, Buffy, Giles,
  299. Cordelia, Willow and Oz, now that they weren't fighting for their lives,
  300. were speechless at the turn of events. Xander looked at them, "Guys the
  301. exit's that way, get out" he yelled.
  302.  
  303. "You too Xander," Buffy said.
  304.  
  305. "I will be right behind you" he replied.
  306.  
  307. "Xander we won't leave you, c'mon," Cordelia pleaded.
  308.  
  309. Xander spoke softly to her, "Just go Cordy."
  310.  
  311. Cordelia looked at him, but was pulled away by Willow and Oz.  Buffy and
  312. Giles made it to the door and pushed the other three threw it.  He told
  313. them to run as fast as they can back to the school.  Buffy turned back to
  314. Xander, "C'mon, let's go" she yelled.
  315.  
  316. Xander turned Angel around so that he was now facing the vampires, while
  317. Xander had his back to the door.  He judged that he would probably have
  318. only an 8 yard head start from when he let Angel go.
  319. "Well," he thought, "it won't be the craziest thing I have done today."
  320.  
  321. He pushed Angel away, throwing him towards the pack of vampires, hoping
  322. that in the confusion the needle would expel its contents in Angel's heart.
  323.  
  324. He ran as fast as he could towards the doorway, "Buffy, Giles go now, "he
  325. screamed at them.
  326.  
  327. Buffy and Giles took off with Xander a couple of feet behind.  The vampires
  328. had reacted quickly and were making up distance on the three.  Xander
  329. looked around, the leading vampires were only a dozen or so feet behind him
  330. now and while there was only sixty feet or so to the street, they would
  331. then have to make it back to school.
  332.  
  333. "Hurry Up Guys," came a voice.
  334.  
  335. Buffy turned to Giles while running, "I told them to get going, we have to
  336. really do something about following orders"; Giles couldn't suppress a
  337. laugh, which resulted in Buffy giving him a dirty look.  They reached the
  338. doorway and opened it, throwing themselves through it they were hit by
  339. blinding light.  It was daylight already. 
  340.  
  341. Xander ran straight up to Cordelia.  They held each other, knowing that
  342. they could have easily not been able to that again.  After a few seconds,
  343. Buffy, Willow, Oz and even Giles came over to put their arms around each
  344. other. 
  345.  
  346. Giles spoke first, "I know that we are safe here, but let's get away from
  347. this place," he smiled at Buffy, she returned it and they walked off.
  348.  
  349. ........................
  350.  
  351. Angel had managed to survive only by the luck of falling on his front.  He
  352. had been able to reach around and pull the syringe from his back.  He
  353. crawled over to his bed, he needed rest.  Rest and then this whole damn
  354. city would pay for last night.
  355.  
  356. "Angel," Spike called as he came into the hall, his face still blistered,
  357. "you look a little bit weak, would you like to borrow my wheelchair?"
  358.  
  359. "Don't patronize me Spike.  If you and Dru hadn't run off we would be
  360. celebrating tonight."
  361.  
  362. "Cut the crap Angel.  You failed miserably again.  We lost over half our
  363. people, Drusilla, myself and you have badly burned bodies, and you killed
  364. no-one, " Spike shouted, "you are a complete failure, you no longer give
  365. any orders around here."
  366.  
  367. "Watch it Spike, you can't take over.  Drusilla would never stand for it."
  368. Angel replied.
  369.  
  370. Drusilla appeared from behind a curtain, she was wearing a half mask, much
  371. like the fabled phantom. "Angel, darling, there has been a few changes...."
  372. She said.

  418. Chapter 5
  419.  
  420.  
  421. Buffy looked at herself in the mirror.  To anyone else she would like any
  422. other seventeen year-old.  To herself she could see the strain of the last
  423. few months showing under her eyes.  It still pained her to think that the
  424. night she was meant to remember for life will now be remembered for all the
  425. wrong reasons.  She was so much in love with Angel, and he was with her,
  426. she was sure of that.  They made love for the very first time; her first
  427. time and it took his soul away.
  428.  
  429. Not the act itself, but it was the trigger.  Angel had lived his last
  430. eighty years with a curse.  The curse had been put on him by a clan of
  431. gypsies as punishment for killing their most beloved daughter and her
  432. family.  The curse was to restore his soul, so he would live out his
  433. eternal life in torment for what he had done.  And he had shown remorse, he
  434. had spent most of the last year helping Buffy and her friends fight
  435. Vampires and demons.  But then the real kicker came.  The curse was meant
  436. to leave him in torment.  He could not have one perfect moment of happiness
  437. for the rest of his life.  If he did, his soul would be taken from him
  438. again.  Of course no one had bothered to tell him about that.
  439.  
  440. Buffy could never understand that.  If they wanted Angel to live in torment
  441. they should have told him.  Then he would not of let himself get close to
  442. her.  He would not have risked the taking away of his soul.  But because
  443. they did not tell him, she and Angel had fallen in love.  They made love.
  444. And now he is free of the curse.  He's a vampire with out a soul again and
  445. he loved it.
  446.  
  447. Buffy however did not.
  448.  
  449. Buffy finished in the bedroom and turned the light off.  She walked across
  450. the across the hall and into her bedroom.  She knew there was something
  451. instantly wrong.  She sensed him before she could see him.  She turned her
  452. head frightened.  She and Willow had cast a spell that was meant to keep
  453. him out of her house.  
  454.  
  455. She turned towards the window; he was outside looking at her.  At least she
  456. was safe.  She looked straight at him.
  457.  
  458. "Sorry not today," she said
  459.  
  460. "Brings back memories doesn't it Buffy.  You use to like it when I turned
  461. up unannounced.  Don't tell me that you still don't get a rush of blood
  462. from seeing me."  Angel almost laughed at her.
  463.  
  464. "Angel you can stay out there and die for all I care.  I know you can't
  465. come in here.  What do you want?"
  466.  
  467. Angel moved closer to the window, almost caressing it with his face, "C'mon
  468. Buffy, I just came for a little foreplay before I start with the little
  469. people.  It so helps to bring the act to a satisfying conclusion."
  470.  
  471. He moved away from the window, as if to go, then turned towards her,
  472. "Buffy, just thought I would let you know, one of your friends dies
  473. tomorrow night, pleasant dreams" he smiled at her, although it seems more
  474. like a snarl. With that he disappeared.
  475.  
  476. Buffy stared at the window for a while and whispered to herself, "Over my
  477. dead body."
  478.  
  479. ..................................................
  480.  
  481. Xander lay motionless on Cordelia's bed.  He wasn't just nervous he was
  482. scared.  Not that he hadn't thought about what he was about to do,
  483. sometimes it was all he thought about, but thinking and doing are two
  484. different things.  Now all he could think was that he was going to show
  485. Cordelia that he was a bigger failure than she originally thought she was.
  486.  
  487. Xander looked at the bathroom door and chuckled to himself.  Here he was
  488. shaking on a summer's night and Cordelia was still taking her time in the
  489. bathroom.  "Some things stay the same," he thought, "no matter what the
  490. circumstance". It reassured him that there was still normality in the world.
  491.  
  492. He had not bothered to get undressed.  He rationalized it as not wanting to
  493. appear too eager.  In reality it was the part of him, that was wishing he
  494. wasn't so scared, trying to delay the onset of pure terror.  Suddenly the
  495. bedroom light went dark.
  496.  
  497. "Argh!!!" he screamed.
  498.  
  499. "I will try not to take that so personally" came the reply.  It took Xander
  500. a while to adjust to the small amount of light, provided by a solitary
  501. candle on the dresser, that illuminated the room.  When he did he saw
  502. Cordelia standing in front of him.  He was relieved, she was wearing a
  503. nightgown. "Looks good too' he mused to himself.
  504.  
  505. "Move over Xander," Cordelia said as she sat down on the bed.   Xander
  506. moved and Cordelia got in next to him, curling her body, backing into
  507. Xander's front.  Xander reached around and held her to him.  He started to
  508. feel a lot better.  He moved his mouth to her ear.
  509.  
  510. "I love you."
  511.  
  512. "I love you," came the reply.
  513.

  560. "C'mon Xander!" Cordelia shouted as she saw Xander coming across the
  561. student's car park.  Like herself, Cordelia's car could hardly be missed,
  562. bright red with the number plate 'QUEEN C", well it seemed to fit her.
  563.  
  564. "O.K., what's the rush. God it isn't even dark yet" Xander returned.
  565.  
  566. He reached her and gave her a quick kiss, before opening the door for her.
  567. "It's the little things she likes," he thought to himself.  
  568.  
  569. Cordelia sped the car out of the park and onto the street.

  572. Buffy walked through the doors of the library, "Giles, are you there?"
  573.  
  574. Giles appeared from behind one of the seemingly endless rows of
  575. bookshelves, "Oh Buffy here already?"
  576.  
  577. "Yes well, thought I would get some brownie points for showing up on time,
  578. after you let me have my way this morning" she replied sheepishly.
  579.  
  580. Giles smiled. "Fair enough.  Get the equipment, I will be down in a second"
  581.  
  582. Buffy moved over to the cupboard that housed the entire vampire fighting
  583. equipment that Giles stored.  She had moved quite a bit to her own house
  584. recently and was surprised to find some new weaponry when she opened the
  585. doors.
  586.  
  587. She looked it over and noticed a number of bottles filled with a clear
  588. liquid.  She picked one of them up and examined it, opening the top and
  589. smelling the contents.   There was no discernible smell.
  590.  
  591. "Giles, what are these?" she said holding on of them up so he could see.
  592.  
  593. Giles was coming towards her as she did, "oh that's a little spin on the
  594. Molotov cocktail.  Filled with Holy Water.  Never know when it might come
  595. in handy," he said as he took the bottle and put it back, "we only have
  596. these five so be careful, it can be difficult to explain in a hurry why you
  597. want to fill bottles up with Holy Water"
  598.  
  599. "Cool" Buffy replied.
  600.

  604. Cordelia pulled the car up in the driveway to her place.  Xander had been
  605. watching Cordelia all the way and did not realize he wasn't at his place
  606. till she stopped the engine.  He looked around at the house in front of
  607. him.  House, well maybe a mansion would be more of an apt description.
  608. With its Greek pillars at the front doorway to its elaborate gardens, it
  609. certainly stood out form the rest of the street.  It did seem to suit
  610. Cordelia's family though.
  611.  
  612. "I take it I was meant to navigate," he said.
  613.  
  614. "Ha, ha" she replied sarcastically
  615.  
  616. "Well it's just that I am not you father's favorite person"
  617.  
  618. "Well it's a good thing you don't want to go out with my father" Cordelia
  619. replied.  Xander just gave her a look; "my parents won't be home for a
  620. couple of hours, how about coming in for a drink?"
  621.  
  622. "O.K.", Xander said as he got out of the car, "It's not that I am scared of
  623. your father, it's just that..."
  624.  
  625. Xander glanced at Cordelia.
  626.  
  627. "O.K., it is that I am scared of your father, but you would miss out as
  628. well if I am not allowed to see you."
  629.  
  630. "Oh I would get by, there are some very nice eligible young men in this
  631. street" she said with a smile, "C'mon, I will save you from the boogie man."
  632.  
  633. She took his hand and led him through the front doorway, "Take a seat, I
  634. will be back in a minute."

  637. It was getting dark as Buffy started to walk home, 'another session with
  638. Giles over, vege time in front of the TV tonight, things aren't all bad'
  639. she thought.  Still she was more concerned about Giles' information session
  640. this morning than she was willing to let her friends see. She knew full
  641. well that she was not the one in the immediate danger, her friends were.
  642. Willow, Xander, Giles, Cordelia and maybe Oz were in the front line so to
  643. speak.  Even though they had been training a few days a week with Giles and
  644. her, they were not equipped like she was.  She felt responsible for them.
  645.  
  646. She was glad her mother was away for the week at a conference in San
  647. Francisco.  It was one less person to worry about.  It was quite a thrill
  648. for her to be trusted to look after herself for a week.  She liked to think
  649. that her mother had decided that she was responsible enough.  She knew
  650. however that a big part of the reason was that her mother had to go to the
  651. conference.  She had no other choice, as her father could not get out of
  652. work to come and look after her.
  653.  
  654. She reached her front porch just as the sunset, and quickly went inside and
  655. locked the door behind her.

  659. Xander looked at the dark sky outside and then his watch, the couple of
  660. hours were getting really close to being over.   It upset him.  They got so
  661. little time to be together by themselves, without having to resort to
  662. necking in Cordy's car that he had really savored the opportunity to spend
  663. a couple of hours lying on the lounge holding Cordelia in his arms and
  664. feeling her close to him.  
  665.  
  666. "Cordy?" he whispered after lightly kissing her forehead, "I should get
  667. going, this has been great and I would hate to have it spoiled by the
  668. arrival of your parents, not to mention while it's still light it's a lot
  669. safer to get home."
  670.  
  671. Cordelia didn't respond straight away, she too was enjoying the moment.
  672. She found it hard to believe that originally she couldn't face up to the
  673. fact she was falling for him, and yet lying in his arms she found a
  674. closeness that she had not before experienced.
  675.  
  676. "Cordy?" he asked again.
  677.  
  678. She moved herself up and turned to face him, "Xander, my parents are away
  679. for the night, I don't want you to go."
  680.

  730. The Question About Love (Part 2)
  731.  
  732. Important: This story is from the earlier days when Angel was good. All
  733. characters except LOVE belong to Joss Whedon and the production teams of Buffy
  734. the Vampire Slayer. LOVE is capatalized to express the importance of the
  735. character and to keep the name from being confused with the word.
  736.  
  737. The day went on, and on, and on.  Buffy, Xander, and Willow went out to lunch
  738. at Hard Rock, then went to their ninth period class.  They met up after school
  739. to discuss their party plans.  They decided to go home and meet up around
  740. seven at Buffy's house.  So they all walked home.
  741. At Buffy's house, in Buffy's room, Buffy lay sprawled across her bed staring
  742. at her trigonometry homework.  She gazed at her watch. 6:00pm.
  743. "I had better get ready," she said to herself.  "Xander will be here in an
  744. hour, and Willow will probably come early."
  745. So Buffy got dressed, put make-up on, and did her hair.  She looked at her
  746. watch again. 6:45.  The doorbell rang.  Buffy walked down the steps and opened
  747. the door.  She surprisingly saw both Willow and Xander at the door.
  748. "We're early," Xander said.
  749. "Come on in," Buffy said.  "I was just getting ready."
  750. "Take your time," Willow said.  "We are in no hurry."
  751. So Buffy finished her hair and reapplied her lipstick.  She grabbed her
  752. leather jacket (the one that Angel let her keep), and headed down the stairs.
  753. All three of them walked out the door and walked to the Bronze.
  754. The place was packed!  Kids were pushing and shoving to get inside.  Ten
  755. dollars admission was obviously not enough.  Willow peered through the window.
  756. She was amazed.  Everyone in school, even some teachers, was there.  Buffy
  757. looked in the window too.  She spotted Giles, a few friends, Cordilia, and
  758. quite a few vampires.  More vampires than usual.  She saw at least twenty
  759. vampires without even trying to look.  But no Angel.  As she was making her
  760. way through the doors, the feeling of being watched came back.  She looked
  761. everywhere but only one person was looking at her, and that was the guy at the
  762. door asking her for the ten bucks to get in.  
  763. Inside sitting at a table all by herself, the same girl was watching her.
  764. Buffy couldn't detect her because Buffy was outside and the girl was inside.
  765. When they finally got in the Bronze she, again, noticed the vampires.  She
  766. noticed that they were not lurking, but they were just hanging out.  Not one
  767. of them looked hungry.  Surprisingly she saw Giles coming her way.
  768. "What are doing here?" she asked.
  769. "I am on a date with Miss Calendar." Giles replied.  "She said that she had to
  770. come see the hot new singer, and invited me to join her."
  771. "Aw, how cute," Buffy replied.  "There are tons of vampires here.  Do you know
  772. why?"
  773. "No," Giles said, "I spotted many myself.  I even saw Spike."
  774. "SPIKE?" she asked with amazement.  "Did he try anything?"
  775. "No, he is with someone, or least was with someone." Giles answered.
  776. "Who?" Buffy curiously asked.
  777. "Let me see if I can spot her.  Oh, there she is.  She is sitting at the far
  778. table.  See her?  She is sitting all by herself." Giles pointed her out
  779. Buffy spotted her then curiously stared at her.  "Giles look," she said.
  780. "What?" he asked.
  781. "Look at the way she is sitting." Buffy said.
  782. Giles looked at the beautiful young girl. He stared at her for a few seconds
  783. then turned to Buffy.  He saw nothing unusual about the way the girl was
  784. seated.  Her legs were crossed and her hands were folded over her knees.  She
  785. had great posture and you could tell from the way the lights hit her face,
  786. that she was nervous.
  787. "What is so strange about the way she is sitting?" he asked Buffy.
  788. "She is nervous," Buffy said.  "I have slayed a lot of vamps in my day, and I
  789. have never seen one that was nervous."
  790. "So, maybe she is not a vampire," Giles responded.
  791. "You said she was with Spike.  I have never seen him turn down a meal before,"
  792. Buffy said.
  793. "Maybe that is why she is nervous," Giles said.  "Maybe she knows he is going
  794. to eat her and is afraid."
  795. "Then why doesn't she run?" she asked him.  "She could bust through those
  796. doors and be out of her in seconds."
  797. "No she couldn't," Giles said.  "Look at how those vampires are posted around
  798. her.  She the one standing at the door?"
  799. "Oh my gosh!  You're right," she said.  "The vampires are here because of her.
  800. That must explain why no guys are hitting on her."
  801. Just then, they both saw Xander leave the table where he and Willow were
  802. sitting.  He was walking in the direction of the young girl.  Buffy started
  803. toward him, but Giles stopped her.  He explained that he didn't think the
  804. vampires would hurt Xander, but basically scare him away.  Sure enough, the
  805. vampires just growled at Xander, without hurting him.
  806. He walked away in a huff.  Buffy went to join Xander and Willow, while Giles
  807. went to sit with Miss. Calendar.  The announcer went on stage and said that
  808. there would be quite a few singers tonight.   He announced the name of the
  809. performers in order of when they would sing. LOVE's name was called last.
  810. So the other six singers went on stage.  None of them were bad, but not as
  811. good as the kids hoped.  The announcer came on once again.
  812. "Alright kids, take yours seats please.  Now for the moment you all have been
  813. waiting for.   I would like to introduce LOVE!" he said.

  834. "A fair fight?" 
  835.     "Am I the only one who see's this as not a good thing?" Xander questioned
  836. looking to Giles and Buffy for an answer.
  837.     "No. I'm flipped by it. But, what else could I do? I had to tell him yes,"
  838. Buffy said with tears in her voice.
  839.     The room remained quiet for a few seconds as Buffy watched the frightened
  840. looks upon her friends' faces. 
  841.     "In all my time, I never have heard of Savarah doing something like that. She
  842. has always preferred having the advantage."
  843.     "Giles. I think she does have the advantage." Buffy walked the library
  844. searching for an answer.
  845.     "Well, if she was so great as a vampire, maybe she's just looking for that
  846. 'rush'. She knows she can kill a Slayer. I think she wants to do it again."
  847. Willow watched as a pacing Buffy stopped in her tracks.
  848.     "That's it." Buffy's face lit up with excitement. "She wants me to fight for
  849. Angel." Buffy paused for a moment and then grabbed her back from the counter. 
  850.     "Uh, where are you going?" Giles started to follow after her in attempts to
  851. stop her.
  852.     "I've got to visit a few friends." 
  853.     "Buffy, you can't fight her now. You're not prepared."
  854.     "Giles, I'm the slayer, I was born prepared.  I'm not going to fight her. I
  855. just want to chat."  Buffy rushed out of the library and made her way to the
  856. streets. She walked at a determined pace as she headed for the warehouse.
  857.

  859.  
  860. "Don't move!"  A hand with a knife was shot up to Buffy's throat from a
  861. formerly sleeping body. Buffy stood at the side of Savarah's bed.  "What do
  862. you want, Slayer?" Savarah snapped as she flipped over to face Buffy. Her face
  863. was a near white as she tried not to move against the cold blade.
  864. "To talk," Buffy snapped. She was taking her chances. 
  865. "Oh, so you talked to Spike," Savarah face smiled with enjoyment.  Angel
  866. suddenly walked into the room.  Buffy took immediate notice. She could see his
  867. body's impression on the bed next to Savarah. The thought sent chills down her
  868. body. 
  869. "Buffy! What a surprise." He anxiously watched the blade against her neck. 
  870. "You want to move that knife?" Buffy snapped not letting her eyes leave
  871. Angel's.
  872. "Oh, I'm sorry, is it bothering you?"
  873. "Yeah," she knocked Savarah's arm away from her throat, "it is."
  874. "So, do we have a deal?"
  875. "Yeah, we have a deal."
  876. "Oh, goodie. Meet me Saturday, 9:00PM, Sunnydale High School football field."
  877. "Fine," Buffy spoke quietly. She began to back out of the room, making sure
  878. not to turn her back on her two worst enemies.
  879. After Buffy had left, Angel sat down on the bed next to Savarah. 
  880. "A fair fight? Do you really think it will work?" Angel asked worried of
  881. loosing one of the two women he loved.
  882. "Angel, I need a challenge.  There is no risk involved except that I may loose
  883. you." She suddenly realized that she let her secret slip.
  884. "Me? What the hell you mean by that?"
  885. "Listen, you are a vicious, evil demon. You've set unbelievable standards for
  886. those who follow in your footsteps.  However, having a soul has plagued you
  887. with flaws. Flaws that you don't even notice. You flaunt them to the Slayer,
  888. and one day, she will use them to her advantage."
  889. Angel didn't have words to express his rage to her.  Even that she brought
  890. these things up to him hurt. But he refused to let it show.
  891. "The fact that you had a soul, has given you thoughts and feelings that will
  892. never leave you.  Even if the demon inside prevents you from showing it,
  893. you're actions of rage against Buffy and her friends, is your way of warning
  894. her."
  895. "What are you saying?"
  896. "I'm saying, you still love the Slayer, you always will. 
  897. He spent several minutes searching for the right words to counter her attack
  898. on him, but couldn't find them.
  899. "So, then, how would you loose me?"
  900. "I used you as the bet for Buffy to fight me. If I win, she dies, if she wins,
  901. you're soul is returned."
  902. Angel sprung to his feet and marched out of the room. Savarah remained in the
  903. bed.  Her evil was too strong to have feelings. She had no concern for other
  904. regardless of what they meant to her.  Attacking Angel with her words was just
  905. part of the job. She curled up and fell asleep again.

  931. The Question About Love (Part 4)

  938. "If Buffy is going, then I am going," Xander said.
  939.     "We all are," Giles said.
  940.     So they all followed the vampires.  They ended up going to a large warehouse.
  941. The windows were spotless.
  942.     "Are warehouses normally this clean?" Xander asked.
  943.     "I don't think so." Miss. Calendar answered.
  944.     They all looked inside the window.  They were amazed.  The inside of the
  945. warehouse was completely furnished.  There was even a fireplace and kitchen.
  946. Willow thought that it was really cool how on the third level, there was a
  947. complete computer room.  Xander loved how big the place was.  Four stories
  948. high and what looked like two stories underground.  Giles loved the library
  949. that was on the second floor.  Miss. Calendar liked all of the big screen TV's
  950. and stereos.  Buffy liked the gym, and Cordilia liked the huge bathroom with
  951. all of the vanity tables and stuff.
  952.     "I don't know about you guys, but I think we should go inside and check it
  953. out," Xander said.
  954.     "Yeah," everyone agreed.
  955.     "NO," Angel stopped them.  "The warehouse may look fun from the outside, and
  956. even better from the inside, but the place is the home of Spike.  He has other
  957. vamps stay there, and they never refuse because they have the opportunity to
  958. stay in the coolest vampire home anywhere.  There are dozens of vampires
  959. inside there that will do anything at Spikes command.  We are safer outside
  960. until Spike leaves, then we can LOVE out simply."
  961.     "Angel is right," Giles said.  "Without their leader, the vampires won't know
  962. what to do.  We are safer if we wait."
  963.     So they waited, and waited, and waited.  It took Spike forever to leave.
  964. They must have been waiting for hours.  Then the warehouse door opened.  Spike
  965. walked a ways away, then pulled out his cigar, lit it, and started to smoke.
  966. Now was there only chance get inside.
  967.     Slowly, one bye one, they entered the back of the warehouse.  Once they all
  968. were inside, the discussed their plan.  They knew that they would have no
  969. chance if they decided to fight, so they thought maybe if they hid until the
  970. right moment.
  971.     "I have to do this for LOVE," Angel said.
  972.     "Do what?" Buffy asked.
  973.     "It doesn't matter.  You guys just stay here," he said.
  974.     "NO!" Buffy screeched.  "We will all do this together."
  975.     "I am going to try to fight them.  Other than you Buffy, no one else can
  976. fight."
  977.     "Like I said, we do this together," she said.  "Are you guys up to it?"
  978.     "Yes," they all agreed.
  979.     Cordilia took it upon herself to get the vampires attention.  She stood up
  980. and yelled at them.
  981.     "Hey you bloodsuckers over there," she screamed.  "Yeah, I'm talking to you!"
  982.     "Cordilia!" Buffy uttered.  "What do you think you are doing?"
  983.     One of the vampires heard Buffy.  She stood up.  Another vampire recognized
  984. her from a previous fight.  He looked terrified when he saw her.
  985.     "Slayer," he hissed.
  986.     "Slayee," she hissed back. 
  987.     Buffy did a front handspring and landed in the middle of the room, right in
  988. front of the vampires.
  989. All of the vampires plunged at Buffy at the same time.  She started to kick
  990. turn and twirl as she beat them up one at a time.  One of the vampires that
  991. was holding a metal pole, came up from behind her and whacked he hard on the
  992. back of the head.  She was always on her guard, but this time, she was not
  993. suspecting the attack.  She fell to the floor.  The rest of the gang rushed
  994. over to her and tried to help her gain consciousness.  She opened on eye and
  995. was able to say "look" before she went out cold.  The rest of the vampires
  996. piled on top of the seven people.
  997. Spike walked into the room and said, "tie them up." He then realized who Buffy
  998. really was.  He said, "this must be my lucky day.  I get to kill the Slayer."
  999. The other vampires tried to restrain the others, but none of the remaining six
  1000. was going to give up easily.  In fact, the only one that was not fighting
  1001. back, was the sleeping slayer.  All seven of them were finally restrained.
  1002. Spike walked up and down looking at each and everyone of them.  Not caring if
  1003. Buffy was still alive or not.  He just kept pacing.  It was almost as if he
  1004. was seeing who was the first one to go.  
  1005.     "Who is ready to die?" he selfishly asked.  "What?  No volunteers?"
  1006.     "I do," Buffy managed to get out.  "Kill me first."
  1007.     "NO!" Angel yelled.
  1008.     "Relax my gallant hero," Spike said.  "It is no fun for me to kill the slayer
  1009. unless she has complete consciousness.  I'm going to drive a stake through her
  1010. heart. The exact same weapon she uses to kill us is going to kill her. And I
  1011. want her to feel it.  So no, no, I am not going to kill her first, I want her
  1012. to watch her friends die."
  1013.     "Then kill me first," Angel replied.  "If you want to hurt her, than kill me
  1014. first."
  1015.     "Well aren't you the throw yourself to the lions type of guy.  You always
  1016. were," he hissed.  "Alright then, you die first.  Your little Rebecca of
  1017. Sunnydale farms gets to watch you suffer as I give you a bath of holy water."
  1018.     "Bring it on," Angel bravely spoke.  "It is not like I am not used to it by
  1019. now.  Remember that little Drucila incident.  Oh Yeah! I forgot that you were
  1020. unconscious most of the time thanks to Buffy.  Too bad Dru is dead now."
  1021.     "You know Angelus, I am going to enjoy watching you die.  TIE HIM UP!" he
  1022. barked. 
  1023.     After a few minutes of struggling, Angel finally gave in and the other
  1024. vampires were finally able to tie him up.  He was tied on a large strong rope
  1025. that was somehow attached to the ceiling.  It was so strong that he could hang
  1026. from it.  Stupidly enough, the vampires didn't tie his feet together.  Spike
  1027. walked over to Angel with a jar of holy water.
  1028.     "Lets just hope you had some Pepsid AC because you are going to have some
  1029. serious heart burn." Spike joked.
