  57.  
  58.     She stared at him, waiting for a beginning and not expecting an end any
  59. time soon.  "So...?" she prompted him.
  60.     "This will be a long story.  You're sure you have the time and
  61. everything?  Because if you don't..."
  62.     "YES!  I mean, I do have the time.  Start."
  63.     He took a long, deep breath.  "Well, I assume you remember the last time
  64. we saw each other."  There was a pause as they both remembered.  Christmas
  65. Eve 1998.
  66.     It had been a particularly brutal night, even by Angel's terms.  It was
  67. his first holiday being a vampire again and he wanted to make it
  68. memorable.  He went on a killing spree until he held a former friend of
  69. both his and Buffy's.  Willow Rosenburg was about to die when the slayer
  70. broke in.  Immediately after saving her friend she fled.  She left her
  71. family, her friends.  Everything.  When Angel had learned of this he knew
  72. his business in Sunnydale was over.  He left also, partially in search of
  73. the slayer, partially escaping her.  Being somewhere where she wasn't
  74. would make feeding much easier.
  75.     "Yeah... I do.  Clearly."
  76.     "After you left, I left.  I was trying to escape, just like you were.  I
  77. excused it by telling Spike and Drucillia..."
  78.     She injected her question with a tone of irritation.  "How are they,
  79. anyway?"  After further thought, she considered the fact that she may not
  80. really want to know.
  81.     "I'm not sure, but we'll talk more about them later."
  82.     "I can hardly wait."  A look of slight disgust took over her face as she
  83. said the words, despite the fact that she tried to hide it.  "I didn't
  84. mean to give that face..." she added quickly.
  85.     "I'm sure you didn't.  Back to the story.  I told Spike and Dru that I
  86. was going to look for you.  Sometimes I'd look.  Other times I wouldn't.
  87. I traveled the world, just like I had before.  On my typical rampage."
  88. Just as her look of disgust left her face, it returned tenfold.  It was
  89. quickly followed by a look of confusion.  She had loved this man before
  90. he had 'turned.'  She hated him after.  But now what was he?  How could
  91. she be sure he was who he said she was.
  92.     With Buffy's looks, Angel had paused his story.  He know what she was
  93. thinking and it greatly saddened him.  He hoped he would be able to
  94. explain.  Even if they couldn't have the same feelings for each other as
  95. they once did, at least he wanted to be able to make her feel comfortable
  96. around him.
  97.     When he received her attention again he continued. "I did the same things
  98. I had done before.  Gone the same places... Killed the same people.
  99. Thinking I was having an exceptionally lucky streak, I ventured back to
  100. the area I had killed in when the curse was cast upon me.  The same tribe
  101. was there, just has I had hoped.  They recognized me immediately.  
  102.     "Their first instinct was to kill me.  They tried very hard and nearly
  103. succeeded.  I offered an explanation.  Still, they attempted to kill.
  104. After three tries of explaining and them trying to take their revenge, I
  105. was able to talk my way out of it.  I told them of my life with my soul.
  106. I explained all the good deeds I had done.  I lied through my teeth,
  107. asking for my soul to return.  I even went as far as to ask to be one of
  108. them -- to be accepted as a Gypsy.  After this they unchained me and let
  109. me roam free through their camp.  I'm not sure what lead them to do this,
  110. but they did.  They didn't completely believe me, as far as I could tell.
  111. I had decided that I wasn't safe there, that they had a plan to do away
  112. with me once and for all."
  113.     Buffy had her full attention on the man in her living room.  Before he
  114. begun again, his eyes darted to the window.  The evening he had first
  115. entered upon had been replaced by night.  The sky was pitch black, as it
  116. often was in the country.  Stars were just beginning to appear as the day
  117. time clouds cleared out.  A full moon shown above trees and buildings.  As
  118. he brought his eyes back to the woman, he noticed she was trying to look
  119. him in the eye.  "It's okay.  I've heard it all."
  120.     "Sorry... This part is a little hard..."  Doubt shown in his eyes, but
  121. he continued.  "That night I killed the daughter of the tribe.  Their
  122. prized child -- the one who was going to be the wisest.  Just has I had
  123. done the first time.  Except for this time I wanted everything to be worth
  124. it.  I raped her.  When she was laying dead on the floor, I went and 
  125. killed her family.  Her friends.  Everyone who was close to her wound up
  126. dead."  As he spoke the words he saw the pictures.  Small flashes of the
  127. night came back to him evoking resentment in not only what he had done but
  128. also in how good the night had felt.
  129.     Both pair of eyes filled with tears without a single drop spilling over.
  130. His were in memory, hers in realization.  Both took a deep breath and
  131. looked away from each other.  There was a silent agreement to give it a
  132. minute...  These ideas were a lot for one person to comprehend.
  133.     After a couple of minutes had passed Angel began his story again.  His
  134. voice gained all the power it had lost.  "They hunted me down.  I was sure
  135. I had gotten far enough away, hidden myself well enough.  I guess I didn't
  136. take into consideration that thousands of people would be looking for me.
  137.     "It took them a day, but they found me.  I had hidden in what I thought
  138. was a secluded cave.  Suddenly, while I was sleeping, I was bound and
  139. gagged.  A black cloth was placed over my eyes and plugs were put in my
  140. ears.
  141.     "I'm not sure how much time passed, hours or days, but eventually I was
  142. unmasked and forced to face masses of angry people.  I was tightly
  143. chained to a pole in the center of a circle.  Before I could comprehend
  144. what was happening I heard chants in unrecognizable languages being
  145. spoken.  I hadn't had anything to drink in possibly days, so I was weak
  146. and unable to escape, despite my valiant attempts.
  147.     "When they saw that I had regained continence they hit me on the head
  148. with a long pole from outside of the circle.  I was immediately on the,
  149. ground unable to understand my situation.  I just laid there until
  150. everything went black.
  151.     "I awoke to feel the sun beating on my skin.  A feeling of guilt hit me
  152. as quickly as my eyes had opened, and I realized what had happened.  A man
  153. who I think was a guard called out to the others.  'He's awake!!'  A few
  154. more people came over with food and water.  I ate as if I had never seen
  155. food before and drank all they had.  As soon as I had my fill they gave me
  156. my instructions.  I was told to head any direction I chose.  They would
  157. all turn their backs to me for ten minutes as I ran.  After those ten
  158. minutes had passed, they would come after me.  I ran to the sound of their
  159. steady counting.  I ran as fast as I could, at a speed that I don't assume
  160. was very great.  I don't know if they ever turned around to try to find
  161. me, I just know I didn't look back."
  162.     His eyes returned to Buffy's after realizing that they had once again
  163. drifted out the window.  "That was two years ago.  Since then I've been
  164. trying to make amends for my evil.  And I've been trying to find you."
  165.     The look Buffy returned to Angel was an unrecognizable one.  Maybe it
  166. was one of many feelings attempting to be masked.  Whatever it was, she
  167. kept it to herself.  
  168.     "Oh," she responded in a small voice.

  327. "Ow," Giles winced as he landed on his back on the library floor.

  329. Another weekly training session with Buffy was landing the Watcher 
  330. a brand new set of bruises.

  332. "That looks painful," Caitlin commented.

  334. "It is," Giles grunted, while Buffy helped him up. "Why don't we take 
  335. a break," Giles offered as he took of his padding.
  336.  
  337. Buffy grabbed a bottle of water and seated herself at the table where 
  338. the rest of the group was sitting and planning a strategy for the ritual.
  339.  
  340. "So where is the ritual going to take place?" Xander asked.
  341.  
  342. "Well it has to be someplace where no one can see it happen, or 
  343. interrupt," Caitlin explained.
  344.  
  345. "The cemetary?" Willow offered.
  346.  
  347. "No, to many souls floating around there," Caitlin took a deep breath. 
  348. "The chance that the wrong soul could be caught in the pull is to great."
  349.  
  350. "The park," Jenny Calendar called out from the doors of the library.
  351.  
  352. "Aren't people there at night?" Caitlin questioned.
  353.  
  354. "Not in this section of town. Usually the crowds are down by the 
  355. Bronze," Cordelia interrupted walking into the library.
  356.  
  357. "Cordy what are you doing here? I recall you saying 'I'm not 
  358. wasting my saturday sitting in the library again. I have more 
  359. important things to do. Like my nails,' " Xander seemed shocked.
  360.  
  361. "Well I never been a part of anything this big. I want to help," 
  362. Cordelia replied.
  363.  
  364. "Well the park sounds good to me," Caitlin agreed. "The only 
  365. other problem is getting Angelus there."
  366.  
  367. "I'll be the bait," Buffy volunteered.
  368.  
  369. "I don't think that's such a good idea," Giles doubted.
  370.  
  371. "Buffy's our best chance. All she has to do is lure him to the 
  372. park, and I'll take care of the rest," Caitlin explained.
  373.  
  374. "How are you going to get him to follow her?"Cordelia inquired.
  375.  
  376. "He'll come looking for Buffy. I'm sure physco girl told him trouble's 
  377. here helping the Slayer. He'll want to know who," Caitlin inferred.
  378.  
  379. "Drusilla?" Giles guessed.
  380.  
  381. "Yeah. I knew Drusilla when I was younger. She gets these visions of 
  382. what's to come. I was kind of surprised  when I found out he brought her
  383. across."
  384.  
  385. "You think she told him about the ritual?" Jenny asked still standing 
  386. by the doors.
  387.  
  388. "No. Before I came I cast a little spell to keep her in the dark, so to 
  389. speak. She doesn't know what's going on."
  390.  
  391. "What if she shows up with him?" Willow asked worriedly.
  392.  
  393. "I doubt she will, but if she does we'll manage. I won't let her mess this
  394. up," Caitlin smiled.
  395.  
  396. Willow nodded, obviously put at ease by Caitlin's comforting words.
  397.  
  398. "So we have a plan worked out. That's step one.  Step 2 is setting it 
  399. up, and step 3 is actually casting it," Caitlin confirmed.
  400.  
  401. "We should all meet at the park at 8:00. You'll all keep out of sight, 
  402. I'll look like I'm hunting, and when Angel comes looking for me..."
  403.  
  404. Caitlin cut Buffy off, "I'll ruff him up a bit, while you all get the circle 
  405. ready. Set up the candles in one circle, all of you in a bigger circle 
  406. around them, and I'll get him where he needs to be. Deal?" Caitlin asked.

  408. "Deal," Everyone answered in unison.
  409.  
  410. "Tonight we bring Angel back," Caitlin assured.

  438. The Question About Love (Part 1)
  439.  
  440. Important: This story is from the earlier days when Angel was good. All
  441. characters except LOVE belong to Joss Whedon and the production teams of Buffy
  442. the Vampire Slayer. LOVE is capatalized to express the importance of the
  443. character and to keep the name from being confused with the word.
  444.  
  445. It was a beautiful morning. The sun was shinning so brightly that everyone in
  446. the quad was wearing sunglasses. Buffy Summers just hopped out of her mom's
  447. car. Yes, it was a calm day, even for the slayer. She didn't have to walk far
  448. before her two best friends; Willow and Xander greeted her.
  449. "Hey Buffy, Slay any Vampires last night?" Xander questioned.
  450. "No," Buffy said. "It was a surprisingly calm night last night."
  451. "Were you with Angel?" Willow curiously asked.
  452. "I was at first," she replied, "but Cordilia showed up with her normal charm,
  453. and the next thing I knew, he was gone. I didn't even see him leave."
  454. Willow and Xander couldn't keep themselves from laughing.
  455. "So are we Bronzing it tonight?" Xander asked.
  456. "I guess so," Buffy replied. "We have nothing better to do unless there is
  457. grave danger."
  458. "Great," Xander ecstatically said. "There is supposed to be a hot new singer
  459. tonight."
  460. "Cool," Willow said with a happy tone. "Do you know what their name is?"
  461. "The flyer just says her name is LOVE" he answered.
  462. "Who is LOVE?" Buffy asked
  463. "Good question" Xander replied.
  464. All three of them walked to class. Actually, they didn't ditch a single class,
  465. which is amazing considering how many times they skipped class to fight off
  466. demons.
  467. "Wow, that was boring" Buffy said as if she were a walking zombie.
  468. "Home-ec is not my favorite class either," Xander replied.
  469. "That is not what you said lastà" Willow started
  470. "SHUT-UP," Xander squealed.
  471. They all walked to the library. As they were going down the hall, Cordilia
  472. caught up with them.
  473. "Buffy," she said. "What did you do to poor Angel last night? When I got there
  474. he looked as if he was dead. Then he just vanished."
  475. "Yeah, you just have this affect on people," Buffy snapped.
  476. "Ha, ha. Did you make that up yourself?" Cordy said, trying to be mean.
  477. "First of all Cordy, that has got to be the worst come back of all times.
  478. Secondly, Angel is dead.  And thirdly, YOU scared him away last night." Buffy
  479. answered.
  480. "AS IF!" she sharply replied. "He is not dead. Oh no," she said as she glared
  481. far ahead. "He hangs out with you, he totally ignores me, you can never see
  482. him when he is hiding in the shadows, and he likes you. He must be a vampire,"
  483. she said.
  484. "Funny.  Really funny," Buffy said.
  485. "Come on Buffy. Get off it. If Angel is a vampire, then how come he hangs with
  486. the slayer? Plus, he is way to cute to be a demon," Cordy replied.
  487. "You're right Cordy," Xander said. "You have nothing to worry about. If Angel
  488. were a vampire, then he would have shone you his demon face by now. UNLESS,"
  489. he hissed in a tone so scary that even Buffy was startled.
  490. "Unless what?" She asked.
  491. "Unless he wanted to eat you!" Xander shouted. Xander began to crack up
  492. laughing.  Cordially elbowed him hard in the ribs as he hissed "SHUT-UP!"
  493. "Go Xander," Buffy cheered.
  494. "Yeah, yeah. Very funny." Cordy snapped.
  495. "I thought so" Willow replied. "Xander, you have had your fun, now we all need
  496. to talk to Giles."
  497. "Why?" Buffy questioned. "Nothing bad happened last night."
  498. "Exactly" Willow said. "Giles promised last night to be a major blood feast or
  499. something. Yet, you said that there was nothing."
  500. "Good listening skills," Buffy said. "Lets go."
  501. All four of them walked in the library door. As Buffy was entering, she got
  502. this cold clammy feeling that she only had when she was being watched. She
  503. turned around and looked in directions, but the halls were completely
  504. deserted.
  505. "Oh well" she replied to herself. 
  506. She walked through the library doors and closed them behind her. When she was
  507. gone, a girl peered around a corner to make sure Buffy didn't see her. When
  508. she was assured, the girl walked to
  509. the center of the hall. She looked younger than Buffy, but was a bit taller
  510. than her.
  511. "Well, well. They don't know," she said to herself. She walked down the hall
  512. toward the doors. Her shoes made a 'click', 'click' sound. She went out the
  513. door and disappeared.
  514. In the library Giles was talking on the phone while rummaging through a large
  515. selection of books.
  516. "Ok, thanks William. Call me if you find anything out. Alright, Bye." Giles
  517. said to the person on the other end of the phone. He hung the phone up and
  518. continued looking through his books.
  519. "Who was that?" Buffy asked. Her words startled Giles.
  520. "Buffy, you scared me," he replied. "That was a good friend of mine, William.
  521. He studies vampires and occasionally tapes them fighting, eating, you name
  522. it."
  523. "So what did he want?" Xander asked.
  524. "He had an unusual encounter last night. He said that he was tapping some
  525. vampires have a discussion about something, when he tripped and made noise as
  526. he fell to the ground. This, of course, informed the vampires of his presence.
  527. They came up to him, backed him up against a tree, and prepared to eat him.
  528. One of the vamps went for his neck, so he tightly closed his eyes. The next
  529. thing he knew, he fell to the floor and the vampires were gone. They just
  530. vanished. He said he didn't
  531. even hear them leave."
  532. 'That is unusual," Buffy said. "What time did he say that this happened?"
  533. "Around eight o'clock, why?" Giles questioned.
  534. "Well," Buffy started. "Cordilia came to the Bronze around eight, Right?" she
  535. asked Cordy.
  536. "Yeah...so," Cordilia replied.
  537. "Well," Buffy continued. "Angel left as soon as Cordy got there. Maybe it is
  538. this thing that has to do with all vampires."
  539. "Maybe," Giles said. "We should ask Angel where he went to. Ok?"
  540. "Ok," Buffy replied. "I might see him at the Bronze tonight."

  573. Part 1 Darkness Falls (Hospital)
  574.  
  575. Buffy had just entered the Sunnydale Hospital to see Angel.  To her
  576. surprise he was to be
  577. released that day after only 3 weeks during which she came by every d=
  578. ay
  579. to talk to him
  580. about their future together.
  581.  
  582. As she approached his room she saw that Giles, Xander & Willow were
  583. already there, and
  584. just like the old days Xander & Angel were fighting.  She entered the
  585. room to see Angel
  586. looking at Xander with murder in his eyes yelling, "I am not going to
  587. leave here in a
  588. wheelchair!" Xander in his usual care-free way said  "Look for a guy
  589. who's over 240 years
  590. old, you can be such a girlie boy.  Besides they won't let you leave =
  591. if
  592. you are not in the
  593. chair. It can be so much fun." =20
  594.  
  595. "Fun how?" replied Angel.=20
  596.  
  597. "Trust me." said Xander helping Angel into the wheelchair.
  598.  
  599. Just as Angel sat down in the chair, Xander let out a rebel yell and
  600. tiltes the chair
  601. backwards. In one smooth motion he then spun the chair around and
  602. started pushing it out
  603. the door.  He sped down the hall at break neck speeds as nurses and
  604. doctors leapt out of
  605. the way.
  606.  
  607. Buffy stepped out into the hall ready to stop Xander when she caught =
  608. the
  609. look on Angel's
  610. face, which had a smile on it a mile wide.  Then she heard him yellin=
  611. g
  612. "Hey Xander you
  613. are right this is fun, but is this as fast as you can go?"
  614.  
  615. Part 2 Darkness Falls (First Strike)
  616.  
  617. While our group was having fun at the hospital an evil plan was
  618. unfolding at the
  619. Hellmouth. The dark figure had used a powerful spell to bring back li=
  620. fe
  621. to one of the most
  622. evil Vampire that had ever been.
  623.  
  624. When the spell was completed, in the center of the chamber stood a 7'
  625. tall engine of
  626. muscle and destruction. When he growled, even the new Spike backed aw=
  627. ay.
  628.  
  629. "Soon my friend, you will have your first taste of human blood in ove=
  630. r
  631. 2,000  years." The
  632. dark figure stated as it approached the new vampire.
  633.  
  634. Spike who had been looking at this new vampire spoke to the dark figu=
  635. re.
  636. "What's so
  637. special about this vampire? And why do you think that he'll be able t=
  638. o
  639. destroy the Slayer?"
  640.  
  641. The Dark figure approach Spike causing him to move back a step. "He's
  642. not here to destroy
  643. the Slayer, only to make her suffer."
  644.  
  645. Then with a wave of its hand the dark figure freed the vampire from=
  646. =20
  647. it's holding place it,
  648. looked at the Dark Figure and said, "I will not  fail Master."
  649.  
  650. The vampire moving at a speed that even a Formula - 4 Car would have
  651. trouble keeping
  652. up with left the chamber.
  653.  
  654. Later that night at Buffy's house, Mrs. Summers answered the door to =
  655. see
  656. a very tall man
  657. wearing a Gas Company uniform. He looked at a clip board in his hands
  658. then back to her,
  659. saying "Is this the Summer's house?"=20
  660.  
  661. "Yes!" answered Mrs. Summers "How can I help you?"
  662.  
  663. "I'm with the Gas Company. We've been having reports of gas leaks in =
  664. the
  665. neighborhood,
  666. so, the boss wanted us to go from house to house checking the gas
  667. levels. May I come in?"
  668.  
  669. As she turns around to open the door wider she answers "Of course. Co=
  670. me
  671. in.  We don't
  672. want to take a chance with something serious like that!"  She missed =
  673. the
  674. evil grin on the
  675. man's face. After entering and closing the door the screams began.
  676.  
  677. Part 3 Darkness Falls (Mom)
  678.  
  679. Later that night Willow and Buffy arrived at Buffy's house. Willow ha=
  680. d
  681. been helping Buffy
  682. & Giles look up some old prophecies and had arranged to spend the nig=
  683. ht
  684. at Buffy's house.=20
  685. They had just got to the door when Buffy notice that it was ajar.
  686.  
  687. She slowly pushed it open with her left hand while pulling out her st=
  688. ake
  689. with her right
  690. hand. One thing that she had learned in her time fighting vampires wa=
  691. s
  692. that, they could be
  693. very sneaky in tricking someone into inviting them in.
  694.  
  695. As the door opened all the way she was almost over powered by the cop=
  696. per
  697. like stench.
  698. She entered the house calling out for her mom.  After receiving no
  699. answer she slowly
  700. entered the kitchen. Her screams caused Willow to come running in fro=
  701. m
  702. the front porch
  703. were she had been standing. Soon her screams also joined Buffy's. The=
  704. =20
  705. sight
  706. that confronted them was that of Buffy's mom with two Stakes holding =
  707. her
  708. to the wall one
  709. through each shoulder. The copper like smell had come from the blood
  710. that was splattered
  711. all over everything.  Buffy thought that her mom was dead until she
  712. heard her
  713. moan.
  714.  
  715. Several minutes later the Ambulance that Willow had called arrived an=
  716. d
  717. took Buffy's mom
  718. to the hospital. Just as the ambulance was pulling out Giles's car
  719. pulled up. Giles and
  720. Xander jumped out running over to Buffy who was sitting on the front
  721. porch not moving,
  722. or even acknowledging the presence of her friends.
  723.  
  724. After Willow had explained what had happened, Giles told her to go to
  725. Buffy's room and
  726. get a some of her things together. He would take her home with him, a=
  727. nd
  728. then call the
  729. hospital and see what he could find out about Buffy's mom.
  730.  
  731. Part 4 Darkness Falls (Willow)
  732.  
  733. Willow was walking home when she heard a loud growl from behind her. =
  734. She
  735. quickly
  736. turned around to see a werewolf approaching her.  She slowly moved ba=
  737. ck
  738. saying, "OZ, its
  739. me Willow, you know the girl your going out with!"  But as the creatu=
  740. re
  741. approached her
  742. she look into its eyes and could see that no trace of humanity remain=
  743. ed
  744. within him. Her
  745. last thoughts as the wolf's fangs sank into her throat was that, she
  746. really should have told
  747. Xander that she loved him, but, now it was to late.
  748.  
  749. The wolf lifted it's blood stained muzzle up to the moon, howling its
  750. victory. Having
  751. completed its mission for the Master and knowing that it would soon h=
  752. ave
  753. a mate.
  754.  
  755. Part 5 Darkness Falls (Xander)
  756.  
  757. Xander had just left Giles house after making sure that Buffy would b=
  758. e
  759. alright. When he
  760. heard a soft voice calling "Xanderrr...Xanderrrr..." He turned and
  761. started to follow the
  762. sound of the voice into the tree line, not knowing why, only that he=
  763. =20
  764. must find out who that
  765. lovely voice belonged to.
  766.  
  767. He had just entered the tree line when he was grabbed from behind by =
  768. a
  769. giant vampire.
  770. Just as the vampire was getting ready to sink it's teeth into his
  771. throat, a voice called out
  772. =66rom the darkness. "Mad Dog, stop! He's mine!"
  773.  
  774. A dark figure steps out of the trees making Mad Dog loosen his hold o=
  775. n
  776. Xander, but not
  777. enough to let him escape.  As the figure approached Xander, the hood
  778. that had been
  779. covering it's face fell back. And upon seeing the face of the one
  780. controlling the vampire
  781. Xander asked, "Amy, why I thought that we were your friends?" =20
  782.  
  783. "Oh Xander, you may have been Amy's friends, but, she's gone now and=
  784. =20
  785. this body is
  786. mine. I mean, did you really think that you could keep me imprisoned =
  787. in
  788. a school trophy?"
  789.  
  790. Part 5 Darkness Falls (Giles)
  791.  
  792. Several days later Buffy has still had no success in trying to find
  793. Willow and Xander. Her
  794. mom was still in the hospital in a coma. Buffy she had also just foun=
  795. d
  796. out that her dad had
  797. been killed in a car wreck. He had been coming to see her mother at  =
  798. the
  799. hospital.
  800.  
  801. Buffy was opening the door to Giles house using the key that he had
  802. given her. She had
  803. been staying with him ever since the attack on her mother since she
  804. didn't feel safe in her
  805. house any more.  She had just opened the door to see Giles standing a=
  806. s
  807. still as a statue.
  808.  
  809. As she started to get closer, she notice that the mirror in front of
  810. him. It reflected a female
  811. head, sitting on the table in front of him, and that it had snakes fo=
  812. r
  813. hair. Buffy quickly
  814. recalled the story of Medusas, she quickly grabbed a blanket and thre=
  815. w
  816. it over the head.
  817. Then using the blanket she picked it up and quickly (hurled) it all i=
  818. nto
  819. the fire. The head
  820. exploded into flames.
  821.  
  822. She turns to see that Giles has been turned into stone. Then she hear=
  823. d
  824. the window break
  825. and turned to see two werewolves enter the room. One of them had red=
  826. =20
  827. fur.  Behind them,
  828. was Xander, who's face reflected the demon within him quite well.  >F=

  830. behind Xander
  831. stepped Amy.
  832.  
  833. "Well, it looks like you are all alone now little Slayer. You'll neve=
  834. r
  835. know who that you can
  836. trust again. You never should have challenged me. If I was you, I'd
  837. run!"

  839. Buffy turned and ran out the door into the night with the evil laught=
  840. er
  841. of a witch and
  842. vampire behind her.
  843.  
  844. When Buffy reached Angels house she raised her hand to knock on the
  845. door. It was pulled
  846. open to show Spike & Druscilla standing there with Angelus.  "Well
  847. Buffy, I guess your
  848. running out of places to hide. But keep running you might just get
  849. lucky." said Angelus
  850. laughing.
  851.  
  852. Buffy turned and ran  from Angel=92s house. Tears were streaming down=
  853.  her
  854. face. She ran
  855. until out of breath then collapsed. In a dark alley, the past few day=
  856. s=20
  857. began to flash in her
  858. mind. She relived everything that had happened:  Her mother being
  859. attacked and put in a
  860. coma; her dad dead; Xander now a vampire; Willow being turned into a
  861. werewolf;  and
  862. Giles getting turned into a stone statue. Then Angel going back to be=
  863. ing
  864. Angelus.
  865.  
  866. She felt that she had finally hit the bottom of a seemingly bottomles=
  867. s
  868. pit as everything that
  869. she had worked for had been taken from her. She was ready to give it =
  870. all
  871. up.  Let another
  872. be chosen she wearily thought. She then felt something rubbing agains=
  873. t
  874. her leg and looked
  875. down into the furry face of a small black cat. It had a white belly &
  876. paws, one of which
  877. had a small black spot on it. It made Buffy think of a sock with a ho=
  878. le
  879. in it. (You describe

  882. She reached down picked up the small cat and begin to pet it. When sh=

  942. ôGo upstairs and get washed up.  Their is a towel in the closet a the 
  943. end of the hallway, and feel free to use anything we have in the 
  944. bathroom,ö Buffy said to Hope, as she shut the door behind her.  Hope 
  945. nodded wearily and trudged up the stairs.  ôHope?ö
  946.  
  947. The beautiful girl turned around.  ôYeah?ö  her parched voice said.
  948.  
  949. Buffy did her best to smile.  ôA vampire is a demon.  They kill, 
  950. torture, and cause suffering to people.  They have no conscious and no 
  951. guilt.  Killing one of them is a good thing, in a weird way.  The more 
  952. of them you kill, the safer the world is.ö
  953.  
  954. Hope took her words to heart.  ôIÆll remember that.ö  She said, and 
  955. continued making her way up the stairs.
  956.  
  957. Buffy walked into the downstairs bathroom.  She cleaned up the cut she 
  958. had on her forehead, and took off her clothes.  Standing in front of the 
  959. full length mirror that was hanging on the door, she eyed her 
  960. appearance.  ôYuck,ö she said, noticing her mussed hair.  Grabbing a 
  961. brush out of a drawer, she ran it through her hair, trying to make it 
  962. descent looking.  ôWhy am I even doing this?  I have a world to save.ö  
  963. Sighing, she pulled a tissue out of the box and wiped the black makeup 
  964. off that had run down her face from her tears.  ôI really need 
  965. waterproof mascara.ö  She pulled a pair of clean jeans from the laundry 
  966. basket and put them on.  She put on a small white shirt on and pulled 
  967. her hair back into a low pony tail.  After taking a final glance at 
  968. herself,  she walked to the kitchen.  Walking over to the counter, she 
  969. noticed the open phone book.  Flipping to the right page, she found the 
  970. number for the hospital and dialed.

  972. ôSunnydayle Hospital,ö the male voice said.
  973.  
  974. ôUh, hi.  I need to speak with Rupert Giles.  He should be there,ö Buffy 
  975. said.

  977. ôDoes he work here?ö

  979. ôUh, no...he is a librarian.  I mean, he is waiting there....at the 
  980. hospital,ö she stammered, ôjust page him or whatever you do.  ItÆs

  997. Hope walked to the hall closet and pulled out a plush pink towel, then 
  998. walked to the bathroom.  Shutting the door behind her, she rested, 
  999. leaning on it.  Her body tingled, and she could smell the stench of 
  1000. dried blood.  Looking down, she saw her stained jeans, remembering what 
  1001. she did to Marcus.  Groaning, she peeled off her clothes and started a 
  1002. shower.  She relaxed as the water hit her.  The water turned a light 
  1003. pink color as she washed her body.  Hope grabbed the nearest bottle of 
  1004. shampoo.  ôMmm...peach.  My favorite.ö  
  1005.  
  1006. When she finally felt clean, she turned the water off, and stepped onto 
  1007. the mat that lay beside the tub.  She dried herself off, and wiped the 
  1008. mist off on the foggy mirror.  ôI really need waterproof mascara,ö she 
  1009. grumbled, and grabbed a tissue to wipe off her makeup that had run down 
  1010. her face.  Running a comb through her blond hair, she left the bathroom.  
  1011.  
  1012. In BuffyÆs room, Hope got dressed, putting on a pair of jeans and a 
  1013. white shirt that she pulled out of her bag.  ThatÆs when she looked at 
  1014. the clock and realized she hadnÆt spoken or seen her parents in a long 
  1015. time.  ôOh know!  They are probably so freaked!  IÆm going to be 
  1016. grounded forever,ö she said.  Racing to the phone, she quickly dialed 
  1017. her number, fearing what her parents would say.

  1019. ôHello?ö
  1020.  
  1021. ôMom!  Oh, IÆm so sorry I havenÆt called you!ö  Hope rushed.  ôIts just 
  1022. that, well, there are things going on and I canÆt explain them to you 
  1023. but I canÆt come home because I have to save the world.  OH!  I ...I 
  1024. mean I have to uh, I have to, um...ö  she rambled, trying to think of an 
  1025. excuse.

  1027. ôItÆs okay, honey.  Calm down.  I understand that you are busy with your 
  1028. new friends,ö her mother, Gayle Callahan said.  
  1029.  
  1030. Hope was confused.  ôWho are you and what have you done with my mother?ö  
  1031. she asked, and Gayle laughed.  ôI donÆt get it.  I was sure you and 
  1032. Frank would be wigged out with worry.ö
  1033.  
  1034. ôHope, dear, we know,ö Gayle said.
  1035.  
  1036. ôYou know what?ö  Hope questioned suspiciously.

  1038. ôWe know about Mira and the necklace and the prophecy,ö Frank CallahanÆs 
  1039. voice said as he picked up the extension.

  1041. ôWh..What?!  I donÆt understand!ö  Hope exclaimed, feeling queasy.

  1043. ôWe know about what is going on right now.  Why do you think we came to 
  1044. Sunnydale?  Why do you think we gave you the necklace right before we 
  1045. moved?  Because of your destiny to fight with Buffy,ö  Gayle said.

  1047. Hope now felt like throwing up.  ôYou know Buffy?ö  
  1048.  
  1049. ôYes, we met today.  I was the one who gave her a ride into Sunnydale.  
  1050. I know that this is a lot to take in all at once, but there is no time 
  1051. to explain.  We can talk about it later.  Right now you have a duty to 
  1052. perform.  You must save Angelus.ö  Gayle said.
  1053.  
  1054. ôYour mother is right.  Angelus needs you to give him his greatest 
  1055. wish,ö Frank said.
  1056.  
  1057. ôWhat wish?ö  his step-daughter asked.
  1058.  
  1059. ôHis wish to be able to human.  To be with Buffy,ö he told her.

  1061. ôOh man.  How do I do that?ö

  1063. ôYou will know what to do when the time comes,ö Frank said.

  1065. ôHow long have you known all of this?ö  Hope asked.

  1070. Hope was astonished.  ôDid my dad know about this before he died?ö

  1072. ôYes, he did.  And Frank also new before I married him.ö

  1074. ôThis is all too much,ö Hope said.

  1092. Hope walked down the stairs to inform Buffy of her newly found 
  1093. information.  She found her lounging on the couch, sharpening a stake.

  1095. ôHey,ö  she said, shyly, and put her hands into her pockets.

  1097. Buffy looked up and sprung to her feet.  She was about to speak but shut 
  1098. her mouth closed, eyeing HopeÆs outfit to find it exactly like her own.  
  1099. Both girls stared at each other in bewilderment, shocked to find out 
  1100. that they both had on jeans, white shirts, and hair pulled back.  ôThis 
  1101. is really weird,ö Hope said, breaking their silence.
  1102.  
  1103. Buffy took a deep breath.  ôShould you change, or should I?ö  she said, 
  1104. beginning to laugh.  Both girls burst into giggles, laughing 
  1105. uncontrollably until their stomachs hurt.  
  1106.  
  1107. When they were able to control themselves, the happy atmosphere turned 
  1108. into a serious one.  They shared their telephone conversations.  
  1109.  
  1110. ôThis is all too much,ö  Buffy said.
  1111.  
  1112. ôStrange.  That is what I said,ö  Hope sighed.
  1113.  
  1114. Buffy stared at her friend.  ôWe have to win this fight.  But how?ö

  1116. ôI donÆt know,ö she said, leaning up against the wall.  ôI canÆt believe 
  1117. they took your mother.ö

  1119. Buffy looked down, hiding her tears.  Her stomach flipped upside down

  1130. Buffy stared at Hope.  Suddenly an idea floated into her mind.  Buffy 
  1131. jumped up off the couch.  ôI have an idea!ö  She exclaimed, and pulled 
  1132. Hope up the stairs.  
  1133.  
  1134. She ran to her room.  Hope followed her quickly, eager to find out what 
  1135. Buffy was up to.  Buffy pulled out her desk chair and told Hope to sit 
  1136. in it.  She stood behind her friend and they stared into the mirror.
  1137.  
  1138. ôDo you see what I see?ö  Buffy asked.
  1139.  
  1140. ôNo,ö Hope replied honestly.
  1141.  
  1142. ôWith our blond hair, slender figures, light skin, we almost look 
  1143. incredibly alike,ö she said.  Hope examined her reflection against 
  1144. BuffyÆs.  
  1145.  
  1146. ôYou know, your right,ö she agreed.  ôBut what does this have to do with 
  1147. anything?ö
  1148.  
  1149. Buffy grinned mischievously.  ôJust wait and youÆll find out.ö
