  33. SPOILERS: all episodes through What's My Line 1 & 2
  34. RATING: PG
  35. SUMMARY: A Buffy/Angel story that takes place after "What's My Line 1
  36. & 2", with some added Willow/Oz and Xander Cordelia. Also, Buffy and
  37. the gang find out about the return of the Master- in some form.
  38. DISCLAIMER: I do not own any of the characters except for "The
  39. Elgradora" All of the other characters belong to Joss Whedon and the
  40. WB. No copywrite infringement intended.
  41. NOTE: I wrote this after "What's My Line 2," therefor without knowing
  42. that something similar would *sort of* happen in *Surprise*
  43.

  45. PART 2
  46.  
  47.       Buffy sat on top of a grave stone, staring down at the stake in
  48. her hands- and daydreaming about Angel. 
  49.  
  50. She snapped herself out of it when she sensed something behind her.
  51. "Sorry- I never did like or fall for those 'sneaking up behind me so
  52. that I won't notice you're there and you can kill me,' games," Buffy
  53. said as she spun around, raising her stake. 
  54.  
  55. No one was there. "Ok..I was never one for hide and seek either. Now
  56. show yourself." She looked all around and still saw no one. 
  57.  
  58. Then she felt a cool breeze behind her. "Who's there?!?" she yelled
  59. turning around again. But again, she saw nothing. 
  60.  
  61. Then she heard it. A faint whisper. "I'm coming, Buffy.....I'm coming
  62. soon," the ghostly woman's voice whispered. The breeze went away.
  63.  
  64.  Buffy knew what it was-it had to have been her- the spirit of the
  65. Master, warning her. 
  66.  
  67. "No!" she yelled at the top of her lungs, as she sprang up in Angel's
  68. bed. Breathing heavily, she looked around and noticed where she was.
  69.  
  70.  Angel immediately came to her side, wrapping his strong arms around
  71. her, and hugging her close to him. 
  72.  
  73. "Hey- it was just a dream. Everything's alright- you just had a bad
  74. dream," he whispered in her ear while rocking her slowly. 
  75.  
  76. She pulled away and ran her fingers through her hair in distress.
  77.  
  78.  "Hey-Are you alright?..you ok?" he asked her softly while putting a
  79. gentle hand on her shoulder. 
  80.  
  81. "Yeah, I uh, had this nightmare," she told him. 
  82.  
  83. Angel sat there staring at her, waiting for her to continue. 
  84.  
  85. "It was about this thing Giles told me about earlier today...I was-
  86. supposed to ask you about it but I guess I got a little distracted and
  87. forgot," she explained. 
  88.  
  89. A look of concern appeared on Angel's face. "What is it?" he asked her. 
  90.  
  91. "The Master- he's supposed to come back six months after he was killed
  92. , on the sixth day, at the 6th hour- and go after the person killed
  93. him..which, unfortunately would be me. Only it won't be the actual
  94. Master, it'll be its spirit and it'll be female. The spirit of the
  95. Master is always of the opposite sex," Buffy explained.
  96.  
  97. "And this is what your dream was about?" he asked her.
  98.  
  99. Buffy nodded. "Yeah, I was um, in the graveyard hunting vampires and I
  100. felt someone behind me-I thought it was a vampire- but when I turned
  101. around no one was there. Then I felt this breeze behind me and I
  102. turned around again but still didn't see anything but heard her voice,
  103. whispering to me," she explained.
  104.  
  105.  
  106. "What did she say to you?" 
  107.  
  108. "She told me that she's coming...soon. I figured it out with Giles and
  109. the Master's spirit is supposed to be coming in just three weeks."
  110.  
  111. "And, you think that the voice you heard in the dream was the Master's
  112. spirit?" Angel asked her
  113.  
  114. "It was- I know it was. In the dream, I could feel the Master's power,
  115. I could feel his presence-just like I could in the dreams I had about
  116. him killing me. It had to have been the spirit," Buffy told him.
  117.  
  118. Angel sighed and looked down.
  119.  
  120. "I take it- you know something about this thing."
  121.  
  122. Angel looked back up at her. He nodded slightly.
  123.  
  124. Buffy waited in silence for him to begin telling her about it.
  125.  
  126. "It's known as The Elgradora," he finally started.
  127.  
  128. "In other words, meaning?" Buffy asked, confused.
  129.  
  130. " The Spirit of the Master"
  131.  
  132. "Couldn't they just call it "Spirit of the Master,"
  133.  
  134. Angel went on. "It comes in spirit form of the opposite sex- to kill
  135. the person who was responsible for killing *it*" he continued.
  136.  
  137. "So um, how exactly does it kill?" Buffy asked unsure of whether she
  138. really wanted to know.
  139.  
  140. "It goes inside your body, without you knowing, and kills you
  141. internally. Once you're dead, the spirit takes over your body and uses
  142. your body as *it's* body until it's old body reforms over yours. Then,
  143. slowly but surely, it is restored back to its full strength, and
  144. begins to destroy all that it can. It also, assembles a team of all
  145. the vampires that are existing to help it in destroying everything and
  146. everyone before it is restored to its full strength."
  147.  
  148. "If you can stop it from going inside you, or kill it somehow, then
  149. all the other bad stuff won't happen, right?"
  150.  
  151. "Yes,but, since you're the Slayer, you'll still have to deal with the
  152. vampires. Every vampire in the world will be here- terrorizing
  153. Sunnydale."
  154.  
  155. "Angel?"
  156.  
  157. "Yeah?"
  158.  
  159. "You can stop with the explanation now. It's really creeping me out,"
  160. she told him with a look of fright on her face.
  161.  
  162. "Sorry. I didn't mean to frighten you...I thought you needed to know."
  163.  
  164. "I do but..I guess I just don't want to..unless there's ways of
  165. stopping it. Is there?"
  166.  
  167. Angel looked down once again.
  168.  
  169. "Angel?"
  170.  
  171. He couldn't look at her.
  172.  
  173. "There's no way...is there?"
  174.  
  175. He finally looked up. "I don't know of any. I- read about it years ago
  176. but I can't remember anything about how it's been stopped in the past."
  177.  
  178. "You mean you can't kill it, you can- only stop it?"
  179.  
  180. "You can't kill it because it's already dead," he reminded her with a
  181. slight grin.
  182.  
  183. "Oh...yeah...But you can make it go away maybe, right?"
  184.  
  185. "Maybe..but there's no telling how. The only way to find out is to get
  186. a hold of the book that I  read about it in."
  187.  
  188. "So, I'm guessing that you don't still have a copy of it on your
  189. bookshelf, huh?"
  190.  
  191. Angel shook his head. "I don't. I wish I could remember the name of
  192. the book but-," he stared.
  193.  
  194. "Don't worry about now. We don't have to know it right now. I mean we
  195. have three weeks until it comes. I'm- sure we'll find out something
  196. else before then."
  197.  
  198. He looked up at her, a sad look on his face.
  199.  
  200. "Angel? What's wrong?" Is there something you're not telling me here?"
  201. she asked him, concerned.
  202.  
  203. He looked away. *I don't have three weeks* he said to himself. 
  204.  
  205. He looked at the clock and noticed that it was 3:30 in the
  206. morning."You better get back to sleep, you have school tomorrow," he
  207. reminded Buffy, avoiding her question.
  208.  
  209. Buffy sighed. "Oh..yeah..school. Well, at least tommorow's Thursday
  210. and the weekend's almost here," she said then laid back down on the bed.
  211.  
  212. Angel got up and pulled the covers back up over her and kissed her
  213. forehead. "Sweet dreams," he whispered softly.
  214.  
  215. "Hey, aren't you gonna sleep here next to me. You seemed to have
  216. evacuated the bed before- Why?"
  217.  
  218. "Well I couldn't sleep, really. I- don't- normally go to sleep at that
  219. time. I'm usually up the whole night," he told her with a smile. 
  220.  
  221. "Oh, yeah. I kinda forgot about the vampire thing."
  222.  
  223. Angel smiled down at her. "I will, though, if it'll help you sleep
  224. better," he said, climbing into bed next to her.
  225.  
  226. She turned around to face him and smiled.
  227.  
  228. He smiled back.
  229.  
  230. Then she closed her eyes and fell asleep again.
  231.  
  232. When Buffy woke up it was dark outside again. 
  233.  
  234. *Must've over slept big time* she thought. *Oh no, that means I missed
  235. school. Well I'll worry about that later. I better go save the world
  236. now* she thought as she got dressed. 
  237.  
  238. She put her jacket on, grabbed a stake and headed out the door. This
  239. time, she decided to hit Sunnydale Park.
  240.  
  241. Buffy seated herself on a swing, stake in her hand, just waiting for a
  242. vampire to show.
  243.  
  244. Time passed, and there was still no vampires in sight.
  245. Buffy sighed. She actually beginning to feel a little bored.
  246.  
  247. All of a sudden, a gust of wind came, blowing the empty swing next to
  248. her so that it swung back and forth-as if someone was on it.
  249.  
  250. Then she heard it again- The ghostly woman's voice, whispering to her.
  251. "I'm coming,Buffy....I'm coming soon...And when I do...you will die,"
  252. the voice whispered to her. Then the gust of wind disappeared as did
  253. the voice and the swing next to her stopped swinging.
  254.  
  255. "No!!! Please!!! No!!!" Buffy screamed as loud as she could. She
  256. turned to her side with a jerk, and opened her eyes.
  257.  
  258. She was still in Angel's bed.
  259.  
  260. Angel was awake next to her and slipped his arms around her, pulling
  261. her closer to him. "Guess you had another bad dream, huh?" he asked her.
  262.  
  263. Buffy nodded.
  264.  
  265. "Was it about The Elgradora?"
  266.  
  267. "Yes..this time, I was hunting in the park and this huge gust of wind
  268. came, causing the swing next to me to swing back and forth- I think
  269. she was sitting on it or something- but she warned me again-said she
  270. was coming soon-but this time, she said I would die...I'm scared,
  271. Angel. Last time I had a dream like this, it really did happen. I
  272. mean, I died once, I don't wanna do it again," Buffy told him,
  273. frightened. 
  274.  
  275. Angel hugged her even closer to him. "Don't worry-We'll get through
  276. this. You're not gonna die-I won't let it happen...We'll just have to
  277. find a way to stop it-somehow...I'll- call some people I know to find
  278. out if they know where I can get a copy of that book I told you about."
  279.  
  280. Buffy smiled at him. Then she looked at the clock. Her eyes widened.
  281. "Oh my god. It's already 6:30-I have to get ready for school. Angel,
  282. you don't by any chance have a shower do you?"
  283.  
  284. Angel smiled. "Yeah, right through that door," he said pointing to a
  285. door in the room.
  286.  
  287. "Ok, thanks...I'll- be out in a few minutes." She gave him a quick
  288. kiss on the mouth and then made a dash to the shower.
  289.  
  290. Buffy came out twenty minutes later, all dressed and ready for school. 
  291.  
  292. She caught sight of Angel in front of the fridge, feeding on a bag of
  293. blood. "Hi. I'm finished," Buffy greeted him.
  294.  
  295. Angel was startled and very much embarrassed. Although he knew that
  296. she saw him, he hid the blood bag behind his back with one hand, and
  297. wiped any blood around his mouth with the other.
  298. "I was just, uh-" Angel began nervously.
  299.  
  300. "Eating your breakfast?" Buffy suggested.
  301.  
  302. Angel just stared at her.
  303.  
  304. "It's- nothing to get all up-tight about. You know, a lot of people do
  305. it."
  306.  
  307. Angel sighed. "They don't eat what I eat though."
  308.  
  309. "Well- different people have different taste buds- eat different
  310. things. That's the way it goes," Buffy said grinning. She was trying
  311. her best to make him more comfortable about the situation.
  312.  
  313. Angel managed a smile. 
  314.  
  315. He stuck the blood packet back into the refrigerator and walked over
  316. to her.
  317.  
  318. His eyes traveled up and down the length of her body.
  319.  
  320. Buffy blushed a little.
  321.  
  322. "You look beautiful," Angel said softly. He leaned in and kissed her.
  323.  
  324. Buffy wrapped her arms arms around his neck, running her fingers
  325. through his air, as the kiss deepened. Buffy pulled away finally. "I
  326. better go to school. It's getting late," she told him.
  327.  
  328. Angel nodded inn agreement. "I wish you could stay. It's so lonely
  329. without you," he admitted.
  330.  
  331. "I know...believe me, I know. Sometimes- I find myself not being able
  332. to wait until it's dark out, so that I could be with you again," she
  333. told him.
  334.  
  335. The two stared at each other in silence for awhile. 
  336.  
  337. "You better go," Angel finally spoke, a look of sadness across his face.
  338.  
  339. "I should...but I just have to get something out first," she told him.
  340.  
  341. "Ok..what is it?" Angel asked.
  342.  
  343. "Well, it's kinda about what I was just saying.
  344.  The days seem to go by so slowly-all I can do is count the hours
  345. until I'll see you- and then it's the night-and I see you-but it goes
  346. by so fast. It's like,that's all I wait for all day, and it's over as
  347. soon as it starts...I just wish our time together wasn't so limited.,"
  348. she told him. 
  349.  
  350. She paused for a second and then continued on. "And then- there's the
  351. fear the I have-of- one of us going away...You-getting hurt by some
  352. other vampire and dying-or you- being exposed to sunlight and dying-or
  353. me-having to move again for whatever reason...And it scares me so
  354. much..For me to ever be without you, Angel...it's the scariest thing
  355. in the world."
  356.  
  357. Buffy looked up at him to see his reaction.
  358. His head was down, and from what Buffy saw, it looked like he may have
  359. even been crying.
  360.  
  361. "Angel?" she called him softly.
  362.  
  363. Angel didn't look up. He couldn't. He couldn't let her know the reason
  364. why tears were streaming down his face. Not yet. Not then. He promised
  365. himself he'd tell her that night though.
  366.  
  367. Buffy called his name again.
  368.  
  369. When he didn't answer or look  up, she walked over to him. She placed
  370. a hand under his chin and lifted his head to see his face.
  371.  
  372. She realized that she was right- he was crying. Buffy never thought
  373. that she'd ever see Angel,"Mr. Cryptic Man,"-himself- actually crying.
  374. But there he was with tear stains down his cheeks.
  375.  
  376. Buffy gently ran the back of her hand over his left cheek, wiping away
  377. the wetness. She did the same with the other.
  378.  
  379. Angel still didn't make eye contact with her. His eyes were focussed
  380. off to the side.
  381.  
  382. "Look at me Angel...Please," Buffy pleaded with him softly.
  383.  
  384. He couldn't resist to that. He finally looked at her.
  385.  
  386. When Angel's watery eyes stared in to Buffy's, her eyes began to get
  387. watery. 
  388.  
  389. "What's wrong, Angel?..Tell, me...Please." Buffy paused for a second.
  390. "Look, I know something's wrong. You've been acting weird ever since I
  391. came here last night. I saw it in you're eyes-And I see it now-You're
  392. hiding something...I wanna know what," she pleaded with him.
  393.  
  394. Angel just stared at her.
  395.  
  396. She begged him with her eyes-with the look on her face. "Please,
  397. Angel," she asked again.
  398.  
  399. Tears began rolling down her beautiful face.
  400.  
  401. When Angel saw this, his own tears began to fall again.
  402.  
  403. Buffy continued to stare at him, waiting for him to tell her.
  404.  
  405. Angel just shook his head. "I can't...I can't Buffy...Not right now."
  406.  
  407. Buffy was understanding towards this. "Ok...Will you tell me later
  408. then?" Buffy asked, hopeful he'd say yes.
  409.  
  410. Angel nodded. "I will," he promised. "I will."
  411.  
  412. Buffy stared at him for a few more seconds then decided that she
  413. really had to go. "Well, I uh- have to go now. I guess I'll see you
  414. tonight,"
  415.  
  416. Angel nodded.
  417.  
  418. Buffy grabbed her back-pack and jacket and walked to the door.
  419.  
  420. "Bye, Angel," she said as she went out the door.
  421.  
  422. "Bye, Buffy," Angel said, but she was already gone.
  423.  
  424. SUNNYDALE HIGH SCHOOL
  425.  
  426.      Buffy walked into the school library to find her two best friends
  427. sitting at a table talking with Giles.
  428.  
  429.  Giles looked up and noticed Buffy. "Buffy-you're late to school-We
  430. weren't sure you were coming today," Giles said as Buffy walked over
  431. to the table and took a seat.
  432.  
  433. "Well, here I am," Buffy said, trying to sound as enthusiastic as she
  434. could.
  435.  
  436. Willow looked closely at Buffy. She looked very upset. "Are you ok,
  437. Buffy?" Willow asked, concerned.
  438.  
  439. "Yeah- It's just- I was talking to Angel and he was acting kind of
  440. strange," she told her friend.
  441.  
  442. "Well, maybe that's because he *is* strange. I mean he's a vampire
  443. with a soul-that's just about as strange as you can get," Xander said
  444. trying to lighten the mood.
  445.  
  446. Buffy didn't seem amused.
  447.  
  448. "How do you mean-strange? You don't think he's changed over to a
  449. normal vampire, do you" Giles stepped in.
  450.  
  451. "No, It's just- he was crying and I asked him what was wrong and he
  452. said he couldn't tell me-then," Buffy explained.
  453.  
  454. "Angel-crying!?!?" Xander asked with a laugh.
  455.  
  456. Buffy, Giles, and Willow looked at him, annoyed.
  457.  
  458. "Sorry," Xander apologized."Guess I just couldn't picture deadboy
  459. crying."
  460.  
  461. "I don't know, maybe it's nothing-but I've just never seen him so
  462. upset," Buffy told them."And this thing that he's not telling me-I
  463. don't understand-Why couldn't he tell me? Why does he have to wait
  464. until tonight?"
  465.  
  466. "I wish I could help you, Buffy, but I'm afraid there's nothing you
  467. can do but wait until tonight" Giles said, trying to comfort her.
  468.  
  469. "I guess," Buffy agreed.
  470.  
  471. "But- in the mean time, were you able to find out from Angel, anything
  472. about the coming of the Master's spirit?" Giles asked changing the
  473. subject.
  474.  
  475. "Wait a minute. The Master is going to grace us Sunydalers with the
  476. presence of his spirit? How come I wasn't informed of this?" Xander
  477. asked.
  478.  
  479. "Sorry-I didn't want to scare you guys until I knew for sure what this
  480. thing was," Buffy told him.
  481.  
  482. "Well you know now right? So it's time to do some sharing and
  483. scaring," Xander said.
  484.  
  485. Buffy looked at Giles for approval.
  486.  
  487. "We *do* have to know, Buffy. And if Xander and Willow are going to be
  488. involved then they should be aware of this too," Giles told her.
  489.  
  490. Buffy agreed and explained everything she knew and found out from
  491. Angel to Giles and her two friends.
  492.  
  493. "Were you able to find out any method of-preventing this from coming
  494. forth-somehow?" Giles asked after Buffy was finished explaining.
  495.  
  496. "I was just about to ask the same thing...with less words," Xander said.
  497.  
  498. "Angel once read something about it in a book but he couldn't
  499. remember.what it said. He's working on it,though. He said he's gonna
  500. try calling some people to get information on it," Buffy told them.
  501.  
  502. "Does that mean we don't have to do any work?" Xander asked with hope.
  503.  
  504. "For now, no. But- if he's unable to find anything soon, we will...You
  505. may go to class now," Giles told them.
  506.  
  507. "Ok, thanks Giles. See ya," Buffy said as she walked out of the
  508. library with her two friends.
  509.  
  510. Xander and Willow also said bye to him.
  511.  
  512. "So, what do you two ladies want to do tonight?" Xander asked as they
  513. headed to their next class.
  514.  
  515. "Buffy, aren't you doing something with Angel tonight..So he can tell
  516. you that thing?" Willow asked her friend.
  517.  
  518. "Well we didn't exactly make plans do go anyplace or do anything but
  519. we could go someplace where he'd know that I might be," Buffy
  520. suggested. "Like, say, the Bronze?"
  521.  
  522. Xander nodded. "The Bronze it is!"
  523.  
  524. "Yeah, and maybe Oz will be there," Willow said hopefully.
  525.  
  526. Buffy smiled. "By the way, how did it go last night with Oz?" she
  527. asked her friend.
  528.  
  529. "Oh, it went...We talked," Willow told her.
  530.  
  531. "Details?" Buffy asked wanting to hear more.
  532.  
  533. "Well, I watched him play and then he came over to my table, asked me
  534. if I wanted a cappucino, I said yes, and he bought me one." Willow
  535. began. "Then we talked about this new computer that's coming out soon
  536. and told silly jokes about people or things that happened at school.
  537. Then he had to go so he said goodbye and left. Is that enough details
  538. for you?"
  539.  
  540. Buffy smiled. 
  541.  
  542. "Aren't you gonna asked me how my night with Cordelia went?" Xander
  543. asked.
  544.  
  545. "Uh, that I don't really need to know," Buffy told him.
  546.  
  547. *bell rings*
  548.  
  549. "Well we missed first period class, I better get to class early before
  550. I'm late for second," Willow said to her friends.
  551.  
  552. "We have the same class so  guess I'll be going with you," Xander told
  553. his friend.
  554.  
  555. "We'll see you at lunch Buffy," Willow told her friend.
  556.  
  557. "Actually, you won't. I have to go meet with Giles at the library
  558. during lunch. He says I need to start training more to prepare for all
  559. those vampires that'll
  560. be coming here soon," Buffy told them.
  561.  
  562. "We'll see you after school then," Xander said.
  563.  
  564. "And after school. I have to train after school now too," Buffy told
  565. them.
  566.  
  567. "Ok then we'll see you at the Bronze tonight," Willow said.
  568.  
  569. "Yeah..tonight," Buffy answered. She walked to her next class in a
  570. daze-thinking about that night. Thinking about what it could be that
  571. Angel had to tell her.

  645. 2," with some added Willow/Oz and Xander/Cordelia/ Also, Buffy and the
  646. gang find out about the return of the Master- in some form.

  655.  
  656. THE BRONZE
  657.  
  658.        Buffy, Xander, and Willow sat at a table talking. After a
  659. while, Xander stood up and asked Buffy and Willow if they wanted to
  660. dance.
  661.  
  662. "Ok, sure" Willow answered.
  663.  
  664. "Buffy?" Xander asked.
  665.  
  666. "You know what, you guys go ahead. I'm-not really up to dancing right
  667. now," Buffy told them.
  668.  
  669. "Are you sure Buffy?" Willow asked her.
  670.  
  671. Buffy nodded. "Yeah. I'm sure."
  672.  
  673. Xander and Willow started to walk out onto the dance floor.
  674.  
  675. Xander turned back around to Buffy.
  676.  
  677. "Hey, Buff. If this is about the thing with Angel, I wouldn't worry.
  678. I'm sure it can't be that bad," Xander said trying to cheer her up.
  679.  
  680. Buffy nodded and smiled as best she could.
  681.  
  682. She sat there alone at the table as her two friends danced on to each
  683. song that was played.
  684.  
  685. Buffy kept watching the entrance, hoping that Angel would walk through
  686. it.
  687.  
  688. Finally, Buffy spotted Angel walk in just as another, slower song came
  689. on.
  690.  
  691. Angel looked around a bit, then finally noticed her.
  692.  
  693. He started walking towards her table.
  694.  
  695. Buffy had to smile at the sight of him. He looked just gorgeous. Like
  696. an angel.
  697.  
  698. He finally reached here table.
  699.  
  700. "Hey," he said softly.
  701.  
  702. "Hi," Buffy said with a slight smile cross her face.
  703.  
  704. Angel stood there, staring into <input type=text name= eyes as  looked
  705. intol stood there, staring into <input type=text name= eyes as Buffy
  706. looked into his.
  707.  
  708. *I get lost
  709.  In your eyes
  710.  And I feel my spirits rise
  711.  And soar like the wind...
  712.  Is it love that I am in?*
  713.  
  714. Buffy realized how much the song reflected the moment.
  715.  
  716. Angel slowly moved closer to her.
  717.  
  718. He tool her hand. "Come on...Let's dance," he said, almost in a whisper.
  719.  
  720. Angel led her on to the dance floor. He slipped his arms around
  721. Buffy's waist, pulling her close to him- but making sure that he could
  722. still see her beautiful face.
  723.  
  724. Buffy placed her hands behind his neck.
  725.  
  726. The two swayed in time to the song, as they stared, almost in a
  727. trance, at each other.
  728.  
  729. *I get weak
  730.  In a glance
  731.  Isn't that what's called romance?
  732.  And now I know
  733.  'cause when I'm lost 
  734.  I can't let go*
  735.  
  736. Buffy felt as though she were lost. In a world where nothing but Angel
  737. existed. And she seemed to have forgotten everything. Including the
  738. fact that Angel was there to tell her something.
  739.  
  740. *I don't mind not knowing
  741.  What I'm headed for
  742.  You can take me to the skies..
  743.  It's like being lost in heaven
  744.  When I'm lost in your eyes*
  745.  
  746. Buffy noticed that Angel's eyes were beginning to tear up again, like
  747. they did earlier that morning
  748. Then she remembered.
  749.  
  750. *I just fell
  751.  Don't know why
  752.  Something's there we can't deny
  753.  And when I first knew
  754.  Was when I first looked at you*
  755.  
  756. Angel pulled Buffy closer, hugging her close to him.
  757.  
  758. *And If I
  759.  Can't find my way
  760.  If salvation seems worlds away
  761.  Oh, I'll be found
  762.  When I am lost in your eyes*
  763.  
  764. Buffy pulled away slightly so that she could look at him. She saw th
  765. tears rolling down his face.
  766.  
  767. "We need to talk," he whispered.
  768.  
  769. Buffy nodded. "Ok"
  770.  
  771. "After this," he finished.
  772.  
  773. Buffy nodded again.
  774.  
  775. *I don't mid not knowing
  776.  What I'm headed for

  781. Angel pulled Buffy closer to him again so that her head rested on his
  782. shoulder. Buffy felt relieved so that she wouldn't have to look at him
  783. like that and start crying herself. But it was too late- the amount of
  784. time that she had seen the tears falling from his eyes, had made tears
  785. fall from hers.
  786.  
  787. *I get weak
  788.  In a glance
  789.  Isn't that what's called romance?
  790.  Oh, I'll be found
  791.  When I am lost
  792.  In your eyes*
  793.  
  794. The song ended. Both of them pulled away, looking into the other's
  795. eyes. Both with tears coming from them.
  796.  
  797. A faster, more upbeat song began and people started dancing again.
  798.  
  799. Angel took Buffy's hand again. "Come on...Let's get out of here," he
  800. said softly.
  801.  
  802. Buffy nodded.
  803.  
  804. The two then left the Bronze
  805.  
  806. When they got outside, Buffy wiped some of the tears that were still
  807. in her eyes.
  808.  
  809. She tried her best to gain composure.
  810.  
  811. "Ok, so, where are we going?" Buffy asked.
  812.  
  813. "Just- for a walk," he told her.
  814.  
  815. "Well I like walks..As long as their down the non-vampire path," Buffy
  816. said.
  817.  
  818. "Tonight's delivery night. They'll all be at the hospital," he told her.
  819.  
  820. "Ok, well, then let's stay away from there..I mean, unless you need to
  821. go get..," Buffy started when Angel stopped her.
  822.  
  823. He shook his head. "No, I've got plenty," he told her.
  824.  
  825. "Ok..good." 
  826.  
  827. Buffy looked up at the night sky as they walked. She was fascinated by
  828. all of the stars out that night. "Wow, look at the sky. It's
  829. beautiful- with all the stars out," she said.
  830.  
  831. Angel looked up. "Yeah..I never really looked at them as beautiful
  832. though. They're all I've seen in the sky for centuries. You get so
  833. tired of seeing them all the time that the night sky no longer looks
  834. beautiful with them in it anymore..But seeing them tonight-with you-it
  835. looks incredible," he told her. He paused for a second. "Like you," he
  836. said softly.
  837.  
  838. Buffy smiled slightly.
  839.  
  840. "When I was a little girl, I used to wish on the stars. But- I
  841. realized that none of my wishes would ever come true, so I stopped.
  842. Then one night, years later, I decided to try it again...It took
  843. awhile of course, but it actually did come true," Buffy told him.
  844.  
  845. "What did you wish for?" Angel asked her. "or are you not allowed to
  846. tell in case it doesn't come true again?"
  847.  
  848. "No, you can't tell before it comes true. But after it does, you can,"
  849. she explained.
  850.  
  851. "Oh...So what was your wish?" he asked her.
  852.  
  853. Buffy waited a few seconds, staring up at the sky.
  854.  
  855. She then turned and looked at him. "I wi-I- ah, forget it. It's going
  856. to sound totally ridiculous," she told him.
  857.  
  858. "No it won't. Tell me."
  859.  
  860. Buffy stopped walking.
  861.  
  862. Angel stood there waiting for her answer.
  863.  
  864. "I wished for you," Buffy finally told him.
  865.  
  866. Angel seemed to tense up when she said that. He turned and looked the
  867. other way.
  868.  
  869. "What? Did I wish for the wrong thing- cause it's too late. It already
  870. came true," she told him.
  871.  
  872. "It's not that." Angel turned and looked at her again. "Buffy-there's
  873. something we need to talk about-that-I- have to tell you."
  874.  
  875. "I know. You- told me this morning-and in the Bronze. I didn't want to
  876. bring it up again. I was just- waiting for you to start talking," she
  877. told him.
  878.  
  879. Angel spotted a nearby bench. He walked over to it and sat down.
  880.  
  881. Buffy sat down next to him.
  882.  
  883. Angel's head was down. He sat like that for a few minutes. Then he
  884. turned and looked at Buffy, who waited patiently for him to start
  885. talking.
  886.  
  887. Angel looked back off to the side. He sighed.
  888.  
  889. "Spike and Druscilla are alive," he finally told Buffy.
  890.  
  891. Buffy let out a breath she'd been holding in. She was relieved that
  892. was the thing that he had to tell her.
  893.  
  894. "Angel, I'd hate to break this to you, but I already knew that. Giles
  895. found out and he told me yesterday..I knew," she said.
  896.  
  897. Angel turned to her. "I- wasn't finished," he told her.
  898.  
  899. "Oh...ok, well- finish then," she said.
  900.  
  901. Angel looked away again. There was a long silence.
  902.  
  903. Finally, Angel spoke again. "Druscilla was-never- restored back to her
  904. full strength. I- overheard her and Spike talking," he told her.
  905.  
  906. "Oh- well, isn't that a good thing though? Because-" Buffy stopped
  907. when she saw Angel shake his head.
  908.  
  909. "I heard Spike talking and it seems that he's not going to just give
  910. up on her...He'll try performing her healing ritual again-and if it's
  911. interrupted, he'll try again. But he won't stop until it works and
  912. Druscilla is restored back to her full strength. And to do that, he
  913. needs me," Angel told her.
  914.  
  915. "Well, can't we just go and kill him-somehow- so that he can't try to
  916. perform it again?" Buffy asked, hopeful.
  917.  
  918. "Buffy, Spike is one of the most vicious vampires around. You know
  919. that. They'll be a lot of people dead before he's killed," Angel said
  920. to her.
  921.  
  922. "So, what are you trying to say here? How else are we supposed to stop
  923. him?" Buffy asked.
  924.  
  925. Angel looked away. He didn't answer her.
  926.  
  927. "Angel?" Buffy called nervously.
  928.  
  929. He didn't answer again.
  930.  
  931. "Angel?! Answer me, please," she begged.
  932.  
  933. There was a long pause.
  934.  
  935. "I- have to leave Sunnydale," he finally told her.
  936.  
  937. Buffy couldn't believe what she just hear. "What?" Buffy asked in a
  938. choked whisper.
  939.  
  940. Angel turned and looked at her. "I have to leave here, Buffy," he
  941. repeated.
  942.  
  943. "What- Because of the ritual?" Buffy asked with tears coming from her
  944. eyes.
  945.  
  946. Angel nodded.
  947.  
  948. "Can't- you just hide- or something? I mean you don't have to leave-
  949. because of that."
  950.  
  951. Angel shook his head. "I can't hide, Buffy. Spike will find me. Maybe
  952. not- right away, but in time, he will. And if the ritual is performed
  953. completely, I'll die," he told her.
  954.  
  955. Buffy just stared at him.
  956.  
  957. "Besides that, Spike is trying to look for a way to get rid of my soul
  958. and change me back over to a regular vampire. I can't let that happen,
  959. Buffy. I'll end up hurting you- and that's the last thing I want to
  960. do," he said to her.
  961.  
  962. "Just to let you know..you're hurting me now, Angel..With this..with
  963. leaving," she told him.
  964.  
  965. "Believe me, if there were any other way to say here- and be with you,
  966. I'd try it. But as long as Spike and Druscilla are alive, I'm put in
  967. danger of dying or being changed back over," Angel told her.
  968.  
  969. He saw the tears rolling down Buffy's cheeks. He hated to see her like
  970. that. Tears began to fill his own eyes.
  971.  
  972. "I love you, Buffy...I do..And I don't want to do this- But there's no
  973. other way," he said. "There's no other way."
  974.  
  975. They sat there in silence for a few minutes.
  976.  
  977. "When do you- have to leave?" Buffy asked him. "And do you have to go
  978. far?"
  979.  
  980. Angel looked away again. "I leave Saturday night..and yes, I have to
  981. get as far away from here as possible." 
  982.  
  983. "Angel, that's in two days..We only have two days left to be
  984. together," she said, sobbing.
  985.  
  986. Angel turned and looked at her. "I know," he said. "I- tried to tell
  987. you earlier but I just couldn't do it. It was too painful."
  988.  
  989. "Please don't do this, Angel. Please..stay here- stay with me," she
  990. said crying.
  991.  
  992. Angel shook his head, tears rolling down his face. "I wish I could,"
  993. he told her. "But I can't, Buffy. I can't."
  994.  
  995. Buffy looked away. She knew that nothing she would say could stop him-
  996. only hurt him more.
  997.  
  998. They sat there in silence for a few minutes. Then Buffy started to
  999. wipe the tears from her eyes.
  1000.  
  1001. She turned to Angel. "I guess- I mean, we should probably make the
  1002. best of what time we have left together," Buffy said.
  1003.  
  1004. Angel looked at her and nodded.
  1005.  
  1006. Buffy tried her best to smile. She moved closer to him and rested her
  1007. head on his shoulder.
  1008.  
  1009. Angel put an arm around her, bringing her closer to him. He kissed the
  1010. top of her head.
  1011.  
  1012. The two of them sat on the bench, just holding each other in silence. 
  1013.  
  1014. After a while, Buffy realized that it was getting late and she had to
  1015. go. Her mother wouldn't be home until much later that night, but
  1016. still, she had school the next day.
  1017.  
  1018. Buffy moved out of Angel's grip. "Well, it's getting late. I should go
  1019. now," she told him.
  1020.  
  1021. "Alright," he answered sadly.
  1022.  
  1023. "There's- a big Friday night dance at the Bronze tomorrow night. Do-
  1024. you want to meet me there?" Buffy asked.
  1025.  
  1026. "I have- some packing to do- but I'll be there," Angel told her.
  1027.  
  1028. "Ok- I'll- see you tomorrow then?" she asked.
  1029.  
  1030. Angel nodded.
  1031.  
  1032. "Ok..bye," she said, then turned and started walking away.
  1033.  
  1034. "Buffy," Angel called to her.
  1035.  
  1036. Buffy turned around.
  1037.  
  1038. "Are you- going to be alright, tonight?" he asked softly.
  1039.  
  1040. "I'm sure I'll be ok after a little while," she told him.
  1041.  
  1042. She smiled as best she could and turned back around and started
  1043. walking home.
  1044.  
  1045. Angel watched her go. He knew she wouldn't be ok, though. He knew that
  1046. he wouldn't be either.
  1047.  
  1048. As Buffy walked home, she thought about how her life would be without
  1049. Angel. Tears started to form in her eyes again and fall down her cheeks.
  1050.  
  1051. She was in such a daze that she didn't hear her name being called.
  1052.  
  1053. All of a sudden, she felt a gentle hand on her shoulder, stopping her.
  1054.  
  1055. Buffy turned around. There he was- her beautiful Angel. That she may
  1056. never see again after Saturday.
  1057. Buffy couldn't stop the tears from flooding her eyes.
  1058.  
  1059. She threw her arms around Angel hugging him tightly, never wanting to
  1060. let him go. Angel did the same.
  1061.  
  1062. After she calmed down, Angel spoke. "Come on. I'll take you home," he
  1063. said as she pulled away.
  1064.  
  1065. He held out his hand and Buffy took it.
  1066.  
  1067. "So why did you follow me? Did you know that I  wasn't going to be
  1068. ok?," Buffy asked as they walked to her house.
  1069.  
  1070. Angel nodded. "I did," he told her.
  1071.  
  1072. They walked silent the rest of the way to her house.
  1073.  
  1074. When they got to the door Buffy got out her key and opened her front
  1075. door. 
  1076.  
  1077. Angel followed her in.
  1078.  
  1079. Buffy shut the door behind him.
  1080.  
  1081. "Don't worry. Mom's not home. She works late on Thursdays," she told
  1082. him.
  1083.  
  1084. "Oh"
  1085.  
  1086. "I'm gonna go upstairs and change. You can sit and watch tv or
  1087. something," she said motioning to the couch.
  1088.  
  1089. Angel nodded. 
  1090.  
  1091. Buffy went upstairs and changed into her pajamas.
  1092.  
  1093. When she came back down, she saw Angel watching "Interview With a
  1094. Vampire," on HBO.
  1095.  
  1096. Buffy had to smile at that.
  1097.  
  1098. "Hey," she said as she walked in the living room. "Whatcha' watching?"
  1099. she asked pretending not to know what it was.
  1100.  
  1101. "Oh, just some vampire movie," he told her.
  1102.  
  1103. "I see..Oh, this is Interview With a Vampire. I love this movie,"
  1104. Buffy told him.
  1105.  
  1106. "Well let's watch it then," Angel said.
  1107.  
  1108. "Yeah-Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt are in it. Of course, if I could choose
  1109. whoever I wanted to play a vampire, my choice would be you," Buffy
  1110. said grinning slightly.
  1111.  
  1112. Angel smiled back.
  1113.  
  1114. Buffy rested her head against Angel's soldier.
  1115.  
  1116. The two of them sat watching the movie. They seemed to have forgotten
  1117. that they would no longer be together after Saturday.
  1118.  
  1119. When the movie was half over, Angel looked at Buffy and noticed that
  1120. she was sleeping.
  1121.  
  1122. Gently, so that she wouldn't wake, Angel picked her up and carried her
  1123. up to her room. 
  1124.  
  1125. He undid the covers and gently placed her in the bed. Then he pulled
  1126. the covers back over her and tucked her in.
  1127.  
  1128. He leaned down over her and kissed her forehead. "Good night, Buffy,"
  1129. he whispered, then proceeded back downstairs and went out the front
  1130. door and walked home.
  1131.  
  1132.  
  1133. THE NEXT DAY- SUNNYDALE HIGH SCHOOL
  1134.  
  1135.  Buffy walked through the library doors to find that just like the day
  1136. before, Xander and Willow, were seated there talking to Giles.
  1137.  
  1138. "Hi Buffy," Willow greeted her friend.
  1139.  
  1140. "Hey guys. Is there some sort of meeting going on that I didn't know
  1141. about?" Buffy asked.
  1142.  
  1143. "No meeting. Xander and Willow knew you'd be coming here, so they
  1144. decided to wait here for you," Giles told her.
  1145.  
  1146. "So, Buff, had it go last night with Angel. Was everything ok like I
  1147. said it would be? I saw, you left without even saying goodbye," Xander
  1148. said.
  1149.  
  1150. "Sorry- I was preoccupied, in a way. Angel wanted to get out of there
  1151. so he could tell me the thing that he had to tell me," Buffy explained.
  1152.  
  1153. "So what was it? The thing?" Willow asked her friend.
  1154.  
  1155. Buffy looked away.
  1156.  
  1157. "Buffy? Is everything alright?" Giles asked concerned.
  1158.  
  1159. Buffy looked back at them.
  1160.  
  1161. "No, actually. Everything's not alright," Buffy told them.
  1162.  
  1163. "Well what is it Buffy? You can tell us- we're your friends. Giles
  1164. too," Willow said.
  1165.  
  1166. Buffy looked down.
  1167.  
  1168. "Buff?" Xander called. 
  1169.  
  1170. Buffy didn't answer.
  1171.  
  1172. "Buffy, what's wrong?" Willow asked again.
  1173.  
  1174. They heard Buffy sniffle, as though she were crying.
  1175.  
  1176. "Hey, Buff. What's wrong?" Xander asked.
  1177.  
  1178. Buffy finally looked up- tears coming down her face.
  1179.  
  1180. "Angel," she finally began.
  1181.  
  1182. "Well, what about Angel?" Giles asked , concerned.
  1183.  
  1184. Buffy let out a sob. "He's leaving Sunnydale," she told them. "For
  1185. good."
  1186.  
  1187. Xander, Willow, and Giles' eyes widened. 
  1188.  
  1189. Buffy stood up. "I, um, have to go- I'll see you guys later," she
  1190. said, then ran out of the library.
  1191.  
  1192. "Buffy wait!" Xander yelled, following her out the door.
  1193.  
  1194. "I better go too," Willow said getting up after him.
  1195.  
  1196. "Yes, go...and..tell her training is cancelled for today," Giles told
  1197. her.
  1198.  
  1199. Willow nodded and left.
  1200.  
  1201. When Willow found Buffy, Xander was already there with her. He was
  1202. hugging her.
  1203.  
  1204. "It's ok, Buffy. It's ok," he repeated to her.
  1205.  
  1206. Buffy shook her head. "It's not. It's never going to be ok. Angel's
  1207. leaving," Buffy sobbed.
  1208. "It's never going to be ok."
  1209.
