  102. SUMMARY: A Buffy/Angel story that takes place after "What's My Line 1&
  103. 2," with some added Willow/Oz and Xander/Cordelia/ Also, Buffy and the
  104. gang find out about the return of the Master- in some form.
  105. DISCLAIMER: I do not own any of the characters except for "The
  106. Elgradora" All of the other characters belong to Joss Whedon and the
  107. WB. No copywrite infringement intended.
  108. NOTE: I wrote this after "What's My Line 2" therefor without knowing
  109. that something similar would *sort of* happen in "Surprise"

  113.  
  114. THE BRONZE
  115.  
  116.        Buffy, Xander, and Willow sat at a table talking. After a
  117. while, Xander stood up and asked Buffy and Willow if they wanted to
  118. dance.
  119.  
  120. "Ok, sure" Willow answered.
  121.  
  122. "Buffy?" Xander asked.
  123.  
  124. "You know what, you guys go ahead. I'm-not really up to dancing right
  125. now," Buffy told them.
  126.  
  127. "Are you sure Buffy?" Willow asked her.
  128.  
  129. Buffy nodded. "Yeah. I'm sure."
  130.  
  131. Xander and Willow started to walk out onto the dance floor.
  132.  
  133. Xander turned back around to Buffy.
  134.  
  135. "Hey, Buff. If this is about the thing with Angel, I wouldn't worry.
  136. I'm sure it can't be that bad," Xander said trying to cheer her up.
  137.  
  138. Buffy nodded and smiled as best she could.
  139.  
  140. She sat there alone at the table as her two friends danced on to each
  141. song that was played.
  142.  
  143. Buffy kept watching the entrance, hoping that Angel would walk through
  144. it.
  145.  
  146. Finally, Buffy spotted Angel walk in just as another, slower song came
  147. on.
  148.  
  149. Angel looked around a bit, then finally noticed her.
  150.  
  151. He started walking towards her table.
  152.  
  153. Buffy had to smile at the sight of him. He looked just gorgeous. Like
  154. an angel.
  155.  
  156. He finally reached here table.
  157.  
  158. "Hey," he said softly.
  159.  
  160. "Hi," Buffy said with a slight smile cross her face.
  161.  
  162. Angel stood there, staring into <input type=text name= eyes as  looked
  163. intol stood there, staring into <input type=text name= eyes as Buffy
  164. looked into his.
  165.  
  166. *I get lost
  167.  In your eyes
  168.  And I feel my spirits rise
  169.  And soar like the wind...
  170.  Is it love that I am in?*
  171.  
  172. Buffy realized how much the song reflected the moment.
  173.  
  174. Angel slowly moved closer to her.
  175.  
  176. He tool her hand. "Come on...Let's dance," he said, almost in a whisper.
  177.  
  178. Angel led her on to the dance floor. He slipped his arms around
  179. Buffy's waist, pulling her close to him- but making sure that he could
  180. still see her beautiful face.
  181.  
  182. Buffy placed her hands behind his neck.
  183.  
  184. The two swayed in time to the song, as they stared, almost in a
  185. trance, at each other.
  186.  
  187. *I get weak
  188.  In a glance
  189.  Isn't that what's called romance?
  190.  And now I know
  191.  'cause when I'm lost 
  192.  I can't let go*
  193.  
  194. Buffy felt as though she were lost. In a world where nothing but Angel
  195. existed. And she seemed to have forgotten everything. Including the
  196. fact that Angel was there to tell her something.
  197.  
  198. *I don't mind not knowing
  199.  What I'm headed for
  200.  You can take me to the skies..
  201.  It's like being lost in heaven
  202.  When I'm lost in your eyes*
  203.  
  204. Buffy noticed that Angel's eyes were beginning to tear up again, like
  205. they did earlier that morning
  206. Then she remembered.
  207.  
  208. *I just fell
  209.  Don't know why
  210.  Something's there we can't deny
  211.  And when I first knew
  212.  Was when I first looked at you*
  213.  
  214. Angel pulled Buffy closer, hugging her close to him.
  215.  
  216. *And If I
  217.  Can't find my way
  218.  If salvation seems worlds away
  219.  Oh, I'll be found
  220.  When I am lost in your eyes*
  221.  
  222. Buffy pulled away slightly so that she could look at him. She saw th
  223. tears rolling down his face.
  224.  
  225. "We need to talk," he whispered.
  226.  
  227. Buffy nodded. "Ok"
  228.  
  229. "After this," he finished.
  230.  
  231. Buffy nodded again.
  232.  
  233. *I don't mid not knowing
  234.  What I'm headed for

  239. Angel pulled Buffy closer to him again so that her head rested on his
  240. shoulder. Buffy felt relieved so that she wouldn't have to look at him
  241. like that and start crying herself. But it was too late- the amount of
  242. time that she had seen the tears falling from his eyes, had made tears
  243. fall from hers.
  244.  
  245. *I get weak
  246.  In a glance
  247.  Isn't that what's called romance?

  250.  In your eyes*

  252. The song ended. Both of them pulled away, looking into the other's
  253. eyes. Both with tears coming from them.
  254.  
  255. A faster, more upbeat song began and people started dancing again.
  256.  
  257. Angel took Buffy's hand again. "Come on...Let's get out of here," he
  258. said softly.
  259.  
  260. Buffy nodded.
  261.  
  262. The two then left the Bronze
  263.  
  264. When they got outside, Buffy wiped some of the tears that were still
  265. in her eyes.
  266.  
  267. She tried her best to gain composure.
  268.  
  269. "Ok, so, where are we going?" Buffy asked.
  270.  
  271. "Just- for a walk," he told her.
  272.  
  273. "Well I like walks..As long as their down the non-vampire path," Buffy
  274. said.
  275.  
  276. "Tonight's delivery night. They'll all be at the hospital," he told her.
  277.  
  278. "Ok, well, then let's stay away from there..I mean, unless you need to
  279. go get..," Buffy started when Angel stopped her.
  280.  
  281. He shook his head. "No, I've got plenty," he told her.
  282.  
  283. "Ok..good." 
  284.  
  285. Buffy looked up at the night sky as they walked. She was fascinated by
  286. all of the stars out that night. "Wow, look at the sky. It's
  287. beautiful- with all the stars out," she said.
  288.  
  289. Angel looked up. "Yeah..I never really looked at them as beautiful
  290. though. They're all I've seen in the sky for centuries. You get so
  291. tired of seeing them all the time that the night sky no longer looks
  292. beautiful with them in it anymore..But seeing them tonight-with you-it
  293. looks incredible," he told her. He paused for a second. "Like you," he
  294. said softly.
  295.  
  296. Buffy smiled slightly.
  297.  
  298. "When I was a little girl, I used to wish on the stars. But- I
  299. realized that none of my wishes would ever come true, so I stopped.
  300. Then one night, years later, I decided to try it again...It took
  301. awhile of course, but it actually did come true," Buffy told him.
  302.  
  303. "What did you wish for?" Angel asked her. "or are you not allowed to
  304. tell in case it doesn't come true again?"
  305.  
  306. "No, you can't tell before it comes true. But after it does, you can,"
  307. she explained.
  308.  
  309. "Oh...So what was your wish?" he asked her.
  310.  
  311. Buffy waited a few seconds, staring up at the sky.
  312.  
  313. She then turned and looked at him. "I wi-I- ah, forget it. It's going
  314. to sound totally ridiculous," she told him.
  315.  
  316. "No it won't. Tell me."
  317.  
  318. Buffy stopped walking.
  319.  
  320. Angel stood there waiting for her answer.
  321.  
  322. "I wished for you," Buffy finally told him.
  323.  
  324. Angel seemed to tense up when she said that. He turned and looked the
  325. other way.
  326.  
  327. "What? Did I wish for the wrong thing- cause it's too late. It already
  328. came true," she told him.
  329.  
  330. "It's not that." Angel turned and looked at her again. "Buffy-there's
  331. something we need to talk about-that-I- have to tell you."
  332.  
  333. "I know. You- told me this morning-and in the Bronze. I didn't want to
  334. bring it up again. I was just- waiting for you to start talking," she
  335. told him.
  336.  
  337. Angel spotted a nearby bench. He walked over to it and sat down.
  338.  
  339. Buffy sat down next to him.
  340.  
  341. Angel's head was down. He sat like that for a few minutes. Then he
  342. turned and looked at Buffy, who waited patiently for him to start
  343. talking.
  344.  
  345. Angel looked back off to the side. He sighed.
  346.  
  347. "Spike and Druscilla are alive," he finally told Buffy.
  348.  
  349. Buffy let out a breath she'd been holding in. She was relieved that
  350. was the thing that he had to tell her.
  351.  
  352. "Angel, I'd hate to break this to you, but I already knew that. Giles
  353. found out and he told me yesterday..I knew," she said.
  354.  
  355. Angel turned to her. "I- wasn't finished," he told her.
  356.  
  357. "Oh...ok, well- finish then," she said.
  358.  
  359. Angel looked away again. There was a long silence.
  360.  
  361. Finally, Angel spoke again. "Druscilla was-never- restored back to her
  362. full strength. I- overheard her and Spike talking," he told her.
  363.  
  364. "Oh- well, isn't that a good thing though? Because-" Buffy stopped
  365. when she saw Angel shake his head.
  366.  
  367. "I heard Spike talking and it seems that he's not going to just give
  368. up on her...He'll try performing her healing ritual again-and if it's
  369. interrupted, he'll try again. But he won't stop until it works and
  370. Druscilla is restored back to her full strength. And to do that, he
  371. needs me," Angel told her.
  372.  
  373. "Well, can't we just go and kill him-somehow- so that he can't try to
  374. perform it again?" Buffy asked, hopeful.
  375.  
  376. "Buffy, Spike is one of the most vicious vampires around. You know
  377. that. They'll be a lot of people dead before he's killed," Angel said
  378. to her.
  379.  
  380. "So, what are you trying to say here? How else are we supposed to stop
  381. him?" Buffy asked.
  382.  
  383. Angel looked away. He didn't answer her.
  384.  
  385. "Angel?" Buffy called nervously.
  386.  
  387. He didn't answer again.
  388.  
  389. "Angel?! Answer me, please," she begged.
  390.  
  391. There was a long pause.
  392.  
  393. "I- have to leave Sunnydale," he finally told her.
  394.  
  395. Buffy couldn't believe what she just hear. "What?" Buffy asked in a
  396. choked whisper.
  397.  
  398. Angel turned and looked at her. "I have to leave here, Buffy," he
  399. repeated.
  400.  
  401. "What- Because of the ritual?" Buffy asked with tears coming from her
  402. eyes.
  403.  
  404. Angel nodded.
  405.  
  406. "Can't- you just hide- or something? I mean you don't have to leave-
  407. because of that."
  408.  
  409. Angel shook his head. "I can't hide, Buffy. Spike will find me. Maybe
  410. not- right away, but in time, he will. And if the ritual is performed
  411. completely, I'll die," he told her.
  412.  
  413. Buffy just stared at him.
  414.  
  415. "Besides that, Spike is trying to look for a way to get rid of my soul
  416. and change me back over to a regular vampire. I can't let that happen,
  417. Buffy. I'll end up hurting you- and that's the last thing I want to
  418. do," he said to her.
  419.  
  420. "Just to let you know..you're hurting me now, Angel..With this..with
  421. leaving," she told him.
  422.  
  423. "Believe me, if there were any other way to say here- and be with you,
  424. I'd try it. But as long as Spike and Druscilla are alive, I'm put in
  425. danger of dying or being changed back over," Angel told her.
  426.  
  427. He saw the tears rolling down Buffy's cheeks. He hated to see her like
  428. that. Tears began to fill his own eyes.
  429.  
  430. "I love you, Buffy...I do..And I don't want to do this- But there's no
  431. other way," he said. "There's no other way."
  432.  
  433. They sat there in silence for a few minutes.
  434.  
  435. "When do you- have to leave?" Buffy asked him. "And do you have to go
  436. far?"
  437.  
  438. Angel looked away again. "I leave Saturday night..and yes, I have to
  439. get as far away from here as possible." 
  440.  
  441. "Angel, that's in two days..We only have two days left to be
  442. together," she said, sobbing.
  443.  
  444. Angel turned and looked at her. "I know," he said. "I- tried to tell
  445. you earlier but I just couldn't do it. It was too painful."
  446.  
  447. "Please don't do this, Angel. Please..stay here- stay with me," she
  448. said crying.
  449.  
  450. Angel shook his head, tears rolling down his face. "I wish I could,"
  451. he told her. "But I can't, Buffy. I can't."
  452.  
  453. Buffy looked away. She knew that nothing she would say could stop him-
  454. only hurt him more.
  455.  
  456. They sat there in silence for a few minutes. Then Buffy started to
  457. wipe the tears from her eyes.
  458.  
  459. She turned to Angel. "I guess- I mean, we should probably make the
  460. best of what time we have left together," Buffy said.
  461.  
  462. Angel looked at her and nodded.
  463.  
  464. Buffy tried her best to smile. She moved closer to him and rested her
  465. head on his shoulder.
  466.  
  467. Angel put an arm around her, bringing her closer to him. He kissed the
  468. top of her head.
  469.  
  470. The two of them sat on the bench, just holding each other in silence. 
  471.  
  472. After a while, Buffy realized that it was getting late and she had to
  473. go. Her mother wouldn't be home until much later that night, but
  474. still, she had school the next day.
  475.  
  476. Buffy moved out of Angel's grip. "Well, it's getting late. I should go
  477. now," she told him.
  478.  
  479. "Alright," he answered sadly.
  480.  
  481. "There's- a big Friday night dance at the Bronze tomorrow night. Do-
  482. you want to meet me there?" Buffy asked.
  483.  
  484. "I have- some packing to do- but I'll be there," Angel told her.
  485.  
  486. "Ok- I'll- see you tomorrow then?" she asked.
  487.  
  488. Angel nodded.
  489.  
  490. "Ok..bye," she said, then turned and started walking away.
  491.  
  492. "Buffy," Angel called to her.
  493.  
  494. Buffy turned around.
  495.  
  496. "Are you- going to be alright, tonight?" he asked softly.
  497.  
  498. "I'm sure I'll be ok after a little while," she told him.
  499.  
  500. She smiled as best she could and turned back around and started
  501. walking home.
  502.  
  503. Angel watched her go. He knew she wouldn't be ok, though. He knew that
  504. he wouldn't be either.
  505.  
  506. As Buffy walked home, she thought about how her life would be without
  507. Angel. Tears started to form in her eyes again and fall down her cheeks.
  508.  
  509. She was in such a daze that she didn't hear her name being called.
  510.  
  511. All of a sudden, she felt a gentle hand on her shoulder, stopping her.
  512.  
  513. Buffy turned around. There he was- her beautiful Angel. That she may
  514. never see again after Saturday.
  515. Buffy couldn't stop the tears from flooding her eyes.
  516.  
  517. She threw her arms around Angel hugging him tightly, never wanting to
  518. let him go. Angel did the same.
  519.  
  520. After she calmed down, Angel spoke. "Come on. I'll take you home," he
  521. said as she pulled away.
  522.  
  523. He held out his hand and Buffy took it.
  524.  
  525. "So why did you follow me? Did you know that I  wasn't going to be
  526. ok?," Buffy asked as they walked to her house.
  527.  
  528. Angel nodded. "I did," he told her.
  529.  
  530. They walked silent the rest of the way to her house.
  531.  
  532. When they got to the door Buffy got out her key and opened her front
  533. door. 
  534.  
  535. Angel followed her in.
  536.  
  537. Buffy shut the door behind him.
  538.  
  539. "Don't worry. Mom's not home. She works late on Thursdays," she told
  540. him.
  541.  
  542. "Oh"
  543.  
  544. "I'm gonna go upstairs and change. You can sit and watch tv or
  545. something," she said motioning to the couch.
  546.  
  547. Angel nodded. 
  548.  
  549. Buffy went upstairs and changed into her pajamas.
  550.  
  551. When she came back down, she saw Angel watching "Interview With a
  552. Vampire," on HBO.
  553.  
  554. Buffy had to smile at that.
  555.  
  556. "Hey," she said as she walked in the living room. "Whatcha' watching?"
  557. she asked pretending not to know what it was.
  558.  
  559. "Oh, just some vampire movie," he told her.
  560.  
  561. "I see..Oh, this is Interview With a Vampire. I love this movie,"
  562. Buffy told him.
  563.  
  564. "Well let's watch it then," Angel said.
  565.  
  566. "Yeah-Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt are in it. Of course, if I could choose
  567. whoever I wanted to play a vampire, my choice would be you," Buffy
  568. said grinning slightly.
  569.  
  570. Angel smiled back.
  571.  
  572. Buffy rested her head against Angel's soldier.
  573.  
  574. The two of them sat watching the movie. They seemed to have forgotten
  575. that they would no longer be together after Saturday.
  576.  
  577. When the movie was half over, Angel looked at Buffy and noticed that
  578. she was sleeping.
  579.  
  580. Gently, so that she wouldn't wake, Angel picked her up and carried her
  581. up to her room. 
  582.  
  583. He undid the covers and gently placed her in the bed. Then he pulled
  584. the covers back over her and tucked her in.
  585.  
  586. He leaned down over her and kissed her forehead. "Good night, Buffy,"
  587. he whispered, then proceeded back downstairs and went out the front
  588. door and walked home.
  589.  
  590.  
  591. THE NEXT DAY- SUNNYDALE HIGH SCHOOL
  592.  
  593.  Buffy walked through the library doors to find that just like the day
  594. before, Xander and Willow, were seated there talking to Giles.
  595.  
  596. "Hi Buffy," Willow greeted her friend.
  597.  
  598. "Hey guys. Is there some sort of meeting going on that I didn't know
  599. about?" Buffy asked.
  600.  
  601. "No meeting. Xander and Willow knew you'd be coming here, so they
  602. decided to wait here for you," Giles told her.
  603.  
  604. "So, Buff, had it go last night with Angel. Was everything ok like I
  605. said it would be? I saw, you left without even saying goodbye," Xander
  606. said.
  607.  
  608. "Sorry- I was preoccupied, in a way. Angel wanted to get out of there
  609. so he could tell me the thing that he had to tell me," Buffy explained.
  610.  
  611. "So what was it? The thing?" Willow asked her friend.
  612.  
  613. Buffy looked away.
  614.  
  615. "Buffy? Is everything alright?" Giles asked concerned.
  616.  
  617. Buffy looked back at them.
  618.  
  619. "No, actually. Everything's not alright," Buffy told them.
  620.  
  621. "Well what is it Buffy? You can tell us- we're your friends. Giles
  622. too," Willow said.
  623.  
  624. Buffy looked down.
  625.  
  626. "Buff?" Xander called. 
  627.  
  628. Buffy didn't answer.
  629.  
  630. "Buffy, what's wrong?" Willow asked again.
  631.  
  632. They heard Buffy sniffle, as though she were crying.
  633.  
  634. "Hey, Buff. What's wrong?" Xander asked.
  635.  
  636. Buffy finally looked up- tears coming down her face.
  637.  
  638. "Angel," she finally began.
  639.  
  640. "Well, what about Angel?" Giles asked , concerned.
  641.  
  642. Buffy let out a sob. "He's leaving Sunnydale," she told them. "For
  643. good."
  644.  
  645. Xander, Willow, and Giles' eyes widened. 
  646.  
  647. Buffy stood up. "I, um, have to go- I'll see you guys later," she
  648. said, then ran out of the library.
  649.  
  650. "Buffy wait!" Xander yelled, following her out the door.
  651.  
  652. "I better go too," Willow said getting up after him.
  653.  
  654. "Yes, go...and..tell her training is cancelled for today," Giles told
  655. her.
  656.  
  657. Willow nodded and left.
  658.  
  659. When Willow found Buffy, Xander was already there with her. He was
  660. hugging her.
  661.  
  662. "It's ok, Buffy. It's ok," he repeated to her.
  663.  
  664. Buffy shook her head. "It's not. It's never going to be ok. Angel's
  665. leaving," Buffy sobbed.
  666. "It's never going to be ok."
  667.

  756. Michelle wrote one kickbutt crossover here.  The mix of the Buffyverse with the
  757. Friday the 13th: The Series worked pretty well.  Of course, this story does
  758. ignore the instances where FT13TS did do vampires.  But that's what fanfic is
  759. for.  The cursed stake and it's history were very well done and the feelings
  760. Buffy has under it's influence were very well written as well.  The spelling was
  761. good and the grammer as well.  Yeah for Beta-Readers!  It kept the flow of the
  762. story going and I must again say it was a joy to read.  Michelle, we want a
  763. sequel now!

  846. We were a group. All of us. United in a bond of fear and pain that would hold
  847. us together forever. Even when the end hit us like a ton of bricks at mach
  848. ten. We came from a place where the darkness we knew as small children was a
  849. reality even as we tried to put our childhood away in the closet. And the
  850. light which had always seemed our salvation became little more than a bitter
  851. reminder that we were only safe some of the time. And so when it faded and she
  852. fell to her destiny; so did we.

  854. A quiet night. The type where a peaceful walk through the park should have
  855. calmed our nerves. We should have known better..our world could never exist
  856. within the childish fantasy of sanity. A church bell ringing far in the
  857. distance. We have a lot of them around here but I've never heard one quite as
  858. haunting as that. And all we knew then was a hallucinatory thought brought on
  859. by the terrifying psychosis we called our own. Danger in submission; agony in
  860. aversion.

  862. And we found her. Red on green. Dying on the grass. She breathed in large
  863. gasps and pawed at the ground trying to find some type of control. What good
  864. would it have been to tell her that even in her finest moments, she lacked
  865. that precious balance.
  866.  
  867. We tried to ease her delirium but it was a futile effort. In her last moments,
  868. we could do little for her body so we concentrated on closure. It was all any
  869. of us had left.
  870.  
  871. We said our goodbyes. And as we took our grief and poushed it away, she took
  872. her last breath and died. Another was called. The cycle began again. Just not
  873. for us.
  874.  
  875. That was the first time I ever saw Xander cry. Head in his hands, he tried to
  876. be strong but the tears rushed down his cheeks. Oz moved cautiously over to
  877. Willow and pulled her to him, crushing her with the fierceness of his emotion.
  878. Angel collapsed to the ground and blood flowed from his eyes. And then Xander
  879. looked up at me and in that moment, he let me into his heart and soul.
