If we go back and look at the scene of the Harvest in the Bronze with Luke,
he was just about ready to bite Cordelia when Buffy attracted his attention
by tossing one of the vampire minions from the second floor in front of
Luke. Then Luke and Buffy had a little discussion, followed by Buffy
dropping down to the main floor. At that point Luke pushed Cordelia away
from him, without biting her.
If Buffy had not come to Sunnydale, Cordelia would have been a goner right
from the start. Her presence in the Bronze was not due to any action that
Buffy took earlier, so she would have been there no matter what. And
without Buffy interrupting him, Luke would have bitten and killed Cordelia.

Geez, it's stuff like this that reminds me how old I am. I used to watch this
and probably still have it on tape somewhere. They costarred with Tim (don't
remember his last name- red-headed guy from Thirtysomething). The basic plot
was an East Coast family that moved to Hawaii after the death of the mother.
Seth had longer hair for most of the show's run and looked a bit different. It
was a good show (sigh of nostalgia). Thanks for letting me remember.

I'm coming to like her more as time goes on (that bit with Scott
and Buffy's replacement at the dance helped a lot), and the more we learn
about her background , what she didn't have or had ripped away, I'm
amazed she's as together as she is. None of this was known at first, we
met her cold. I don't usually find myself agreeing with Cordy, but
"slut-o-rama" did seem to fit, and that first impression has been rather
lasting. By the time they get around to killing her off, I'll be really
sad.

I'm scrolling through the posts that piled up while I wasn't
feeling well, saw this and triggered something I was going to say
anyway.

Buffy)

>Might be another symptom of the hellmouth?
If Willow has the story right, (I'm running off here w/o
re-watching the tap), Cordelia was so lucky she should never buy a
lottery ticket, she's used up her lifetime supply.
Assuming that the rod's went in her back in a straight line from
where it came out, it was low enough below the ribcage to have missed the
chest cavity. Heart was not a problem (not physically-I won't go into
the romantic trauma just preceeding the fall <g>) , nor is punctured
lung/ruptured diaphragm. As far left of the body's centerline the
abdominal aorta is out of danger, and the rod was high enough not to hit
the Iliac artery feeding the leg. So much for the good news.
I stand amazed that a perforation at that location did not
destroy her spleen. While not a 'vital' organ (i.e. she can live very
well w/o it- although future immune system performance will be diminished
after removal), it is very well supplied with blood, and a puncture like
that results in a major internal bleed that can quickly become
life-threatening if the victim is not treated promptly in the field and
gotten into the hands of a surgeon ASAP. Other targets in that area are
the large bowel and possibly the small bowel as well. While not as
critical an issue pre-hospitaly, getting bowel contents, digestive juices
and *bacteria* into the belly is not good, requires surgical repair, and
in the case of the large bowel, a new and unique way of going to the
bathroom while things heal.
Not shown was the rescue operation that would be entailed. Once
Oz gets to the closest phone and dials 911, the fun gets going in ernest.
On scene will be at least one advanced life support unit, possibly a
basic ambulance team, and given the circumstances a rescue unit or engine
co from the fire department, plus in many cases a squad car from the
police.
At least one, if not two medics need to be gotten sown to the bottom of
the hole without ;
(you knew I couldn't get away w/o an outline)
a) Getting them hurt in a further collapse of the stairway
b) Dropping more debris on Cordy
c) Spending all night figuring it out
Initial treatment to include;
a) At least two large size IV lines
b) oxygen to offset decreased carrying capacity of remaining blood volume
c) leg sections of anti-shock trousers
d) neck collar.
Meanwhile, fire dept rescue people will have to sever the rod w/ hydralic
cutters (making sure she is stable and doesn't drop onto anything *else*
once cut free.
both protruding ends of the rod have to be stabilized so that they don't
wiggle around during transport, tearing Cordy up inside even further.
At this point full spinal splinting to a backboard is possible,
(complicated by the protruding object ), followed by getting her up to
ground level- given the stairs are gone, probably in a basket stretcher
hauled up by half-a-dozen fire-fighters
All of this while
A) She is quite likely bleeding internally like an open hydrant, and
B) Her probably closed head injury (can't see due to smak on head when
she hit the bottom) gets worse due to brain swelling.
Then comes the lights-and-siren trip to the e.r. and the
operating room
Is there any question why she's peeved at Xander for being put through
all this??
That she was (IIRC) in the hospital's ICU with no visitor's
outside of immediate family seems that regardless, something bad did
happen. Maybe guilt is making Willow edit the version she's passing on?
My appologies for running on with the "ick factor", but I've had
to pick up the pieces like this in EMS for twenty years, and this is
pretty much how the reality goes. I was scared for her from the moment I
saw the through-and-through wound, and the graveside scene was an all too
chillingly likely aftermath. From now on Joss, stick to broken arms,
it's easier on our nerves.

Hey, when did it become definite that Charisma was going to leave the show

she didn't want to leave.
I'm so upset, I love Cordelia on Buffy. I know that she didn't die in the

Subject: BUFFY: Season 3 So Far
So are there still people out there who feel disappointed by Season 3?
After Anne and Dead Man's Party, and even following that, there were a
number of people who expressed severe anticipation about the direction the
show was taking. I must admit that I was a bit worried, but I thought that
it was early and I would give it time. Well, we're now over one third
through the season. Any minor doubts I had have been erased and I'm
wondering if others feel the same way.
Compare season 3 to season 2 at the same point in time -- after 8 episodes
- -- and I think this year comes out on top. The eighth episode of last year
was The Dark Age, one that I had been eagerly anticipating but which left
me a bit blah. So we hadn't come across the idea of a second Slayer yet,
Spike and Dru had not really done much beyond School Hard, a few glimpses
of Oz were all we had, Xander and Cordelia weren't together yet and nothing
really beyond a hint that they would become a couple, Angel and Buffy were
not nearly as close as they would become.
And when exactly did they get all that close anyway? Looking back at the
progression of their relationship last fall, it seemed pretty inconsistent
when I tried to think about it. I know they got as close as you can get in
Surprise, but earlier than that I mean. Some Assembly Required dealt with
the jealousy Angel had for Xander, then there was no Angel in Inca Mummy
Girl. In Reptile Boy, we had the coffee thing so they were just working up
to a date. In Halloween, the date never really happened yet they were all
cuddly at the end. In Lie To Me, we had Angel trying to protect Buffy from
Ford but beyond that? Given the greatness that season 2 became, I just
think there's even more to look forward to this season with all the
developments. The last half of senior year of high school is pretty much a
time for major upheavals for most people, even those not literally battling
demons along the way. So sure the angst-o-meter is now in the red, but I
think it has to be. It would be unrealistic to have these teenagers go
through what they've gone through the past two years and not be deeply
affected. But there's been enough humor for me in the last several
episodes to at least partially balance out the darkness.
Finally, on something less broad, Anne was just on again here in Canada
tonight and something struck me. Cordelia was away all summer in Mexico.
I had forgotten that and I don't really remember anyone here making an
issue of it. It changed my perspective on a couple of things. Despite
appearances in Dead Man's Party, Cordy had not been putting her life on the
line all summer like Xander, Willow and Oz and so she was actually a novice
in that opening DMP scene battling vampires (DMP had to have taken place
very soon after Anne). With respect to the upcoming episode The Wish,
which from the promo we know involves Cordy wishing Buffy away, it means
she hasn't had a lot of experience in dealing with vamps in the absence of
The Slayer. So I think it makes her wish a little more plausible. Also, I
thought that maybe the summer bonding could explain why everyone helped
Cordelia in the battle for Homecoming Queen but that couldn't have been it.
It really must have been just guilt for Willow and Xander and blind
devotion to Willow on the part of Oz.

Well, we know for a fact that they show up on video tape, evidence Spike's
continued rewinding of the tape while studying Buffy's fighting tactics. If a
video camera's CCD sensor can pick up light reflected off a vamp and
ultimately rearrange ferrous particles on a plastic film, shouldn't that same
reflection of light should expose photographic film? (I'm not talking about
reflection in the sense of a mirror, rather light reflecting off of the
subject, which is what allows all of us to see anything at all.) Unless
there's a strong connection between vampires and silver, in which case the
silver halide in film emulsion may be problematic. If that were the case,
Willow theoretically should not be able to have any pix of Oz, what with
werewolves not mixing well with silver.

I think the development of the relationship was inconstitent; however I did
want to add the fact that Buffy and Angel had some major time together in Ted
(shown in one scene and more offscreen time implied), some serious moments in
What's My Line Part I (ice rink) and II (end, leading into Ted), and
definitely in Bad Eggs (three major kissing/discussion scenes). While lots
more development was needed, there was some more than was mentioned (I totally
understand the lack of screen time for Buffy/Angel together. Not everyone is
gung-ho for them and it takes away from the major premise of the show too). If
I had my 'druthers (ooh, always wanted to say that), I would have waited at
least one more season to turn Angel or done more development of the
relationship earlier.
My two cents after inflation,
Marusky :)

Subject: Re: BUFFY: Season 3 So Far
I think this has to be the best season so far. I haven't found a
'standout' episode yet but I have liked every episode so far. There is
much more consistancy than in the last two seasons. In the first season
we already has "Teacher's Pet", "Puppet Show" and "I Robot You Jane"
(all episodes I HATED) and in the 2nd season we had "Halloween",
"Reptile Boy" and "Dark Age". This season, although it hasn't had any
episodes like "Angel" or "School Hard", has had it share of good
episodes like "Homecoming" and "Lover's Walk". Just my opinion.
I also don't hate Willow anymore. I actually kind of like her now.
