  53. Well, remember, there was no mention of Spike and/or Dru up to this point
  54. in the season -- before 'Band Candy' there was no referance to Ethan,
  55. either, and we haven't heard anything about Jenny (Save for the snide
  56. comment of Xander's).  I get the feeling that, when you live in Sunnydale,
  57. you put almost anyone you can't see out of your head.

  63. Also (to add to Jeff's stellar comments below), remember that this _is_
  64. supposed to be a secret society.  Having someone show up that can say
  65. 'hello, I'm Faith's new Watcher, yo Giles, wassup?' has to be a pretty
  66. good sign of honesty.  What actually bothered me was that he didn't
  67. recognize her -- with the amount of training Watchers must require, I
  68. can't imagine him not knowing all the others, at least in England.

  102. Probably mostly because he had never _seen_ Faith before.  He knew there
  103. was a new Slayer, yes, but all he really knew about Faith at that point
  104. was a) a woman came in claiming to be a Watcher and whacked him, b) this
  105. girl came running in _after_ the false Watcher.  QED, she's probably
  106. working _with_ the false Watcher, and needs dead.

  172. yearbook pictures are all in the black robe tops for girls and suits for guys.
  173. And the Buffy pictures looked anything but high quality.  The senior pics
  174. usually aren't even taken by the normal school photographers.  Oh well, I
  175. guess we can just assume that Sunnydale is different and they needed a good
  176. excuse for Buffy to miss her picture.  When I had my senior PICS done, they
  177. kept mailing me appointment dates until I finally showed up.

  198. First seniors get their pics for the school id (these are the ones taken like

  246. something to that effect, and we also saw a banquet laid out at 
  247. Drucilla's birthday party that had non-blood things to eat and vamps were 
  248. hanging out and munching on the assorted treats, so I think we can say 
  249. that they can and will eat for the fun of it, if not for the nutritional 
  250. value.

  280. enjoying herself that she doesn't fight smart.  A part of Buffy's brain   
  281. always seems to be scanning her surroundings for things she can use to   
  282. her advantage.  Spike even remarked on this.  So while Faith was just   
  283. trying to see how hard she could hit him, Buffy saw the blade, said 'ah,   
  284. here's something I can use' and whap.

  311. cured as you thought?"  That line has boggled my mind ever since
  312. Tuesday night.

  314. I was POSITIVE Faith was going to die in this one.  In the trailer,
  315. we all saw the scene where Faith is about to stake Angel.  But I
  316. expected Angel to get up and break her neck...I've heard she's
  317. not going to be a long-term character, and I thought that this might
  318. just be the episode where they write her out of the show.

  397. That should be enough.  Ryan posted a message with possible spoilers
  398. about future eps.
  399. In particular, he speculated (or mentioned someone else's prediction)
  400. that Cordelia
  401. would become a vampire.  This prediction caught my interest, because my
  402. cousin (not on
  403. the list) and I arrived at the same prediction independently the other
  404. day.
  405.  
  406. My cousin's take is pretty much in line with Ryan's: Cordy gets vamped
  407. (but neither of us
  408. thought that Spike would be the one responsible)...I'll get into my
  409. speculation in a minute.
  410. Willow restores Cordy's soul, and Cordy and Angel go off to LA to enjoy
  411. eternal bliss
  412. together.
  413.  
  414. My prediction is somewhat less optimistic.  First, I speculated that
  415. Cordy got vamped not
  416. by Spike, but by Willow or Xander.  It's been predicted that when Cordy
  417. wishes that Buffy
  418. never showed up, Willow and Xander become vampires.  I thought that, if
  419. this is the case,
  420. perhaps all of Sunnydale would've been vamped or killed outright (I even
  421. speculated as to
  422. how this could be worked into a crossover series finale between almost
  423. every show on the
  424. WB, but that's a different story)...including Cordy.  Now, I've heard
  425. that at the end of "The
  426. Wish," everything goes back to normal.  But I thought that perhaps
  427. because Cordy was
  428. the one who wished Buffy out of existence (at least from Sunnydale), she
  429. might be "stuck"
  430. with whatever happened to her, in a Buffy version of "be careful what
  431. you wish for."  So
  432. now we have Cordy turned into a vampire, and probably blaming her fate
  433. on Buffy (who
  434. is back in Sunnydale at the end of the episode).  For revenge, she
  435. decides to steal
  436. Angel away from Buffy.  Somehow (and I'm not sure how this happens), she
  437. and Angel
  438. have sex, activating Angel's curse again.  So instead of Willow
  439. restoring Cordy's soul,
  440. we have Cordy causing Angel to lose his soul again.  Now both Cordy and
  441. Angel are
  442. evil (a new Spike and Dru?), and both go to L.A. bent on mayhem.
  443.  
  444. I don't REALLY think this would happen -- it would never get by the
  445. powers that be at
  446. the WB, the concept of a series where the main characters are vicious
  447. villains.  Would
  448. be interesting if that's how the cookie crumbles, though.

  488. Anyway, it's cool that you get these in advance.  I don't suppose the press
  489. release you got actually listed the guest stars for the episode.  I'm just
  490. curious, it sure sounds as though The Master will actually be in the
  491. episode, but maybe Darla too?  Luke?  The possibilities for this episode
  492. are endless.  And if nothing else, we won't have to argue about whether
  493. people are acting "in character" or not.

  582. in putting behind them.  I vote for Nightmares; that was some serious
  583. wackiness ensuing.  Rationalization 101 must go right along with American
  584. History as a required course at Sunnydale High.  I'm thinking we might
  585. delve deeper into this now with the introduction of The Mayor.  He had that
  586. cryptic conversation with Mr. Trick about how important "the children" are.

  610. Faith before.  I do assume that -- at least for the sake of his own safety

  612. would have liked to have seen that scene if only to observe how Buffy would
  613. describe Faith to someone.

  716. _don't want to know_.  Not in the real world, and not in Buffiverse.  Give
  717. them a few plausible reasons for things, and they'll fall all over
  718. themselves to believe that the world is what they need it to be.

  723. What exactly _is_ the conventional Slayer, however?  Most fanfic Slayers
  724. tend to run in the Buffy vein, but so far we've seen three, and all _very_
  725. different.  Consider:

  727. Buffy.  The 'I don't wanna' girl.  Probably not that uncommon a syndrome,
  728. in the young-and-doomed.  The most unusual thing about Buffy, really, is
  729. that she kept fighting, rather than letting the angst overpower her and
  730. drag her down.  In past times, would most likely have been killed due to
  731. being majorly forced into her duties.
  732.  
  733. Kendra.  The 'sacred duty' chick.  Big points for training, but minuses
  734. for having any common sense or world experiance.  Probably the most common
  735. of types, and the shortest lived.  These are the sorts that _never_ ask
  736. for help, because it is _their_ duty -- never see past the Prophecies.
  737.  
  738. Faith.  'It's my party and I'll slay if I want to.'  Can you really say
  739. that she was raised to her duty?  She was probably a late or unexpected
  740. find, like Buffy, but rather than rejecting her duty, embraced it.  Of the
  741. three types, provided you can keep her stable, she's probably the
  742. superior.  She neither denies her duty nor embraces it to the point of
  743. excluding all else.  Her biggest flaw is her focus; the fact that, like
  744. Kendra, she's starting to define her life only in terms of death.
  745.  
  746. How can we call anything 'typical'?
  747.

  956. I been thinking how good the new tv series, The Crow: Stairway to Heaven,
  957. is.  Eric Draven is a soul seeking to unite with his beloved slain fiance
  958. whose soul is on the 'other side' but still waiting for him to join her
  959. so they can go to the Land of the Dead.  The show features lots of
  960. kung-fu fighting, frequent visits with other ghostly souls, and recently
  961. introduced a Whistler type character who advises The Crow.
