Sapphire asked me to forward this to the list awhile ago
because she's not currently subscribed, but I became rather
busy and forgot. So here it is now. She says the offer is
still open (she ordered a bunch of them), so don't worry about
the Aug 27th deadline in the post. Please email the person at
the bottom of the post <loralee@comteck.com> for details and
not me or the list. Thanks, Lisa

quickly doing a search.

Okay, weird. I was just watching a re-run of Boy Meets World, and I saw
Charisma Carpenter. The group got stuck on a subway on New Years Eve... and
some Caterer was in the next subway car. She had like, two words in the whole
episode. She was wearing some skimpy french maid outfit :o). She said her two
words "Want Kiesh?" (sp?), and then some guy kissed her. And that was it. I
made sure to watch the credits so I could catch her name..... just thought I'd
letcha all know.

Okay, I live in Philadelphia, and what happened was on Monday night the
WB 17 was airing preseason football. So, on Thursday (last night) they
reaired Monday night's lineup(7th Heaven and Buffy the Vampire Slayer).
I just so happened to be reading the TV Guide and I found out. Thankk
God too, cause I wanted to tape Bad Eggs. So, that's the deal.

Subject: BUFFY: Mistake in Ted?
Okay, someone probably already discussed this before I joined the list but I
was watching WSWB and then Ted and I noticed a mistake. At the end of WSWB,
when Xander, Willow, and Buffy had their reconciliation thing, right after
Xander says the line about grinding their enemies into talcum power, he
suggests going mini-golfing (the music has started and it's kind of hard to
hear- btw he also suggests mini-tennis, but I can't hear anything after that
line) and Willow responds, saying they don't have a course. Well, in Ted, he
and Joyce take them mini-golfing. I just wondered where they went or if they
built a course within those few months. Yes, I'm obsessive- I have five essays
for Comp. Politics due on Mon. and am also suffering Buffy withdrawl (It's not
a good combo :)

Subject: BUFFY: Buffy Comic -- Review with maybe SPOILERS
If you can't decide whether to go out and find the first installment in
Buffy's foray into comicdom, you might want to read the following for a
little info. I'll try to give without giving away, but just to be safe....

Okay,
Buffy the Vampire Slayer, "MacGuffins"
script by J.L Van Meter
pencils by Luke Ross
inks by Rick Ketcham
This story is available in Dark Horse Presents Annual 1998. The whole issue
is straight pencil-ink work, so we won't be seeing the color that we've seen
so far from the covers (which are by the artist for DHorse's 'Monkeyman and
O'Brian', I think). (For a taste of some of the covers, and colored scans
of the first 3 pages of the first 'real' buffy issue, check out
http://home.nycap.rr.com/uosmgfcnl/comic.htm/ (Thanks to Azure for pointing
that one out to me! :) That page also shows the front cover of DHP annual,
so you know what to look/ask for at the comics shop.
That said, on with the actual story.
Let me first say that we still aren't seeing in this story an accurate
example of what the Buffy series is going to look like, since the real
'heart of the art' -- the penciler -- is NOT going to be Luke Ross for the
main series -- I believe that duty goes to Joe Bennet, and the writers are
also different... BUT, Rick Ketcham is doing the inks on both this story and
the series, AND he's doing the pencilling on the Dust Waltz 60-page trade
paperback out in mid-October, so we have that at least.
The story itself would have been a bit better told with 16 pages instead of
the 10 that it got in the annual (I had to re-read it once to clarify a few
things that they had to 'skip and sum-up' to make the story fit) -- the art
certainly isn't bad, and the dialogue from Buffy rings true.
The premise (without giving away too much) is that Someone thinks Buffy is
getting soft durring a summer spent in L.A. with her dad (this would be the
summer between Prophecy Girl and When She Was Bad), so they send her a pair
of gremlin-like 'Macguffins' to keep her on her toes.
The Good:
-Buffy killing flies with a swatter while blindfolded then (still
blindfolded) flipping them with the swatter into a collection bowl.
-"Ooh, present for Buffy... /weird/ present for Buffy..."
-[singsong] "Slayer's got a biiig butt!"
-"Hey, Slayuhslayuhslayuh, Suh-wing, Slayahhh..."
The REALLY Good:
- -"My vacation gets sandbagged because you think I'll slack! You really don't
trust me to /give/ a damn, do you?"
(This, to me, really made the whole story 'fit' between the first and second
season: it's light-hearted, but there's still that bit of tension that we
see come to a head in WSWB.)
- -The bottom panel of page eight is a dead ringer picture of SMG.
The Bad:
-Giles' dialogue wasn't quite written right -- his mid-sentence pauses
were written in such a way that you'd think he was a sterotypical canadian
if you didn't watch the show.
The Weird:
-I don't remember too many episodes with Buffy in shorts, and while
she's certainly worn skirts as short or shorter, Joss usually doesn't have
the camera shooting the scene from linoleum-level -- ah well, it's a comic.
====
It's worth noting that this story would be /bad/ done on the show, just from
the annoyance of the little whatchamajigger-guys -- Joss has mentioned that
the comic will have the advantage of being able to do bigger and better
monsters, but it will also be able to do little guys like these -- I can't
imagine the show being able to do such critters well enough to not be
annoying. Gremlins was annoying, and it had a movie budget.
====
Other:
You can tell from the first pages of the first 'real' issue that the comic
WILL be referencing things that happen on the show, which is cool: Xander
makes reference to the 'Demon Lizard Guy' from Reptile Boy, and from what I
could see, his running commentary is going to be very Xander.
A little more news on the Dust Waltz TPB -- 'Dust Waltz' is apparently a
vamp term for a duel to the death (presumably coined because the loser turns
to dust -- witness my big brain at work :) -- Buffy gets lured into a Dust
Waltz with some powerful vamp from out of town, and wackiness ensues.
Personally, I think the Dust Waltz term is cool, and that's all I have to
say :)
All in all, a darn good 'tie me over' until the new season starts -- More
Buffy, Says I!

I'll admit I haven't seen the trailer yet for the new season, but I've
heard some pretty good descriptions of it. As we all know, Buffy leaves for
an episode or two. To get money to live, she probely gave it a try as a
waitress. Good way to get quick cash (tips). As for the woman talking with
her, is it possible that it is the new slayer Faith? Maybe she is trying to
convince Buffy to come back. From what I've heard she's blond and resembles
SMG a lot. By the way I missed "Passion" the other day so if anyone could
tape it for me I'd apprichiate it. Thanks.

This bounced-- you can't use the word "subscribe." You have to "mask it"
by substituting something for one of the letters (i.e. s*bscribe) and then
you should be fine to post.

Subject: BUFFY: Luke / The Judge
I just watched Surpirse today (me being in Oz) and today saw the repeats
start of the first series and it was intresting to see that Luke in the
first two is also the The Judge in the Surpise/Innocence ep.
This is from IMDb
Brian Thompson TV Appreances ...
1. "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" (1997) playing "The Judge" in episode:
"Innocence" (episode # 2.14) 1/20/1998
2. "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" (1997) playing "The Judge" in episode:
"Surprise" (episode # 2.13) 1/19/1998
3. "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" (1997) playing "Luke "The Vessel"" in
episode: "Welcome to the Hellmouth" (episode # 1.1) 3/10/1997
4. "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" (1997) playing "Luke "The Vessel"" in
episode: "Harvest, The" (episode # 1.2) 3/10/1997
So how did Luke become The Judge??
Did I miss something here??

as far as i know, luke never became the judge. the judge is a totally
different entity than luke. luke is a vampire and the judge's body parts were
collected all around the world for drusilla's gift. besides, luke died already
long before the judge, right? they must have just hired the same actor to play
both parts. after all, no one can really tell that the actor, who played luke,
played the judge also b/c the judge has all that blue makeup on.
