I might be in, but I'd prefer to see Tom Clancy do that. If
you want to talk writers, in my honest opinion, he's the best there
is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be!
Now, I'll admit, I've talked with him a lot, and he let me use
a scenario from one of his non-fiction books as the basis for a
screenplay, and it may have biased me, but he's also a good author
(well, he sells a lot of books).

This is sorta off-topic, but I just went to this site... and I need to get
something off my chest. Just so you know, this is NOT *the* official site.
It's in no way associated with The WB from what I can tell.
The site is also a piece of junk from a technical standpoint - I mean, the
content and ideas are great, but the implementation - relying on Shockwave
animations for *everything* (and I do mean *everything*) makes it take
about 1 minute to completely load a page. Sorry, but I'll stick to the
semi-text pages.

OK, let me ask you this, then:
1) If it's official, why is there no mention of The WB except for on the main
index page? Doesn't seem like that would gel with WB's interests.... and,
there's also no mention of Dawson's Creek or Three - which also goes
against
WB's interests, considering they requested the links to DC and Three on the
Buffy site, just as Buffy is linked on the DC and Three sites.
2) Why is it run by Apollo Interactive (so it appears from the Whois registry)
instead of UltimateTV, who runs WB's other sites? This doesn't make any
sense, considering UltimateTV is and has been doing one hell of a job with
the site.
3) Why is the original site still up, with no mention of this "new" look?
4) The posting board uses Matt Wright's WWWboard software, as opposed to
the scripts that were custom-written for buffyslayer.com, and IMO,
are superior.
Those four points lead me to believe that it's not official. No
professional designer is going to rely on 100% Shockwave graphics either.
If you're a professional (not *you* personally, just making a point), you
have text links *somewhere*. If you don't, you're a fruitcake because you
knock out about 25% of web surfers who either have their browsers set to
NOT download graphics, or use text browsers.
I've got mail into woo@apolloi.com (the apparent "owner" of the new site)
and Scott Woodward at the WB about this, we'll see what they say...
Finally, IF this really is the new official site - WB's in for a wake up
call, because the posting board on there is already filled with about 200
messages basically saying "this site sucks", and it's only been up for
about 2 days so it looks.
Then again, this could be a huge boost for fan-run sites...

Kasey makes some very good points as to thinking this site is not
OFFICIAL, as well as the fact that I've had this URL http://www.buffy.com
on my Links Page for MONTHS, it started out as another Links Page for
Buffy, so they upgraded, alot. Unless WB/Buffy brought that URL it
belongs to someone else, who may not have anything to do with the show.
Then again unless we get word from WB or Joss W. themselves or someone at
the site says they have on affliation with Buffy, then we won't really
know, will we? I, based on what I know about the URL, am not going to
think it's another OFFICIAL site, untill I learn otherwise.

I checked out my local video game stores this weekend for "Fox

There were several copies in the second hand section.
I browsed through the instruction manual and in the actors credits
there was

From the screen shots on the box it looks like Robia sings in this

<Here I go again...actors are people too!!! They need days off and
<vacations! Also, so does the crew!!
O.k., here is the deal about the dreaded reruns. I used to work on a
television show. We did 24 episodes a year. So for 24 weeks you're
getting new episodes, but the station needs something to fill the
other weeks, hence the reruns. When you get to the end of a season,
you take what is called a hiatus. Hiatus sucks in my opinion. You
have to take anywhere from 2 weeks to 2 months off and you don't get
paid for it. You do this a couple of times through the year. Then
you come back and start all over again.
<And there are always things that can halt production.
True.
<These people work 14-16 hours OR MORE a day, 5 days a week!
Not any more with the new laws! And they work on weekeds too.
<Be a little more sensitive!!
You can't fault someone for something they don't know about. I hate
reruns. I get very frustrated when I see a rerun and I know exactly
how it works. Reruns suck!
<Also, when actors aren't working on the shows we love, they often are
<at conventions, live chats, offering services to charities or other
<events, etc.
If anyone knows of these conventions, let me know!

I haven't added to the accumulation of negative opinions on the posting
board (actually, as of when I checked, I was disappointed to find that
only about four or five posts were present, expressing disgust with the
new site), but let me agree emphatically: I *really* intensely dislike
the new site. What concerns *me* is that *no one* official has
responded to the negative opinions on the posting site, disavowing the
site and confirming that it *isn't* official. Why wouldn't that happen,

I've had a second look at the Bronze PB, and should confirm that, as
Kasey says, a huge number of posts have accumulated decrying the awful
new site, and reacting in horror to the elimination of the current PB.
People are expressing complete outrage, and urging letter-writing
campaigns. So if the assumption that Ultimate TV is losing the official
WB BtVS site is incorrect, and the only new site will be this
shockwave-thing, it's *way past* time that somebody official took the
trouble to correct it.

Hey, gang! Even in the midst of a totally unrelated design project in the
midst of my more-than-usually-insane RL, I've managed to be a crazed BtVS
fangirl!
Found the source of Angel's gryphon tattoo, while researching something else
entirely. I've always thought it looked like something from the Book of
Kells, and sure enough, there it is on the canon table page, just to the left
of center at the top of the frame design! The page is reproduced on page 111
(color plate 40) of _Celtic and Anglo-Saxon Painting_, by Carl Nordenfalk
(published by George Braziller, Inc., 1977). I got the book at a used
bookstore several years ago; no clue whether it's still in print or anything.
I've scanned the page and am about to send it (along with the clear vidcap I
*finally* got of the tattoo just a few days before!) to Perri to put on the
Sunnydale Slayers webpage (www.enteract.com/~perridox/SunS). She's really
good about updating the page, so I expect it'll be available there in the next
week or two. You can also email me for the graphics if you like, but I'm not
keeping up with my mail very well at the moment so please be patient if I
don't respond immediately!

Subject: BUFFY: Milk Ad
<Pull this off the WWW on SMG milk ad>
Sarah Michelle Gellar, the WB's intrepid Buffy the
Vampire Slayer, will be the star of the next celebrity
"milk mustache" ad from the Milk Processor Education
Program. The ad will appear in the April issue of Inline
magazine and will be targeted at an audience of teenage
boys.
"Just like teen girls, teen boys aren't getting enough
calcium, so we've developed this ad specifically with
them in mind," said Kurt Graetzer, executive director of
the Milk Processor Education Program. "We wanted to
teach teen boys about the importance of drinking milk."
The copy of the ad reads, "Revealing outfits and the
undead. What else can't most young guys get enough of?
Calcium. But there is a mouth-watering solution. Milk. It
can help provide the calcium growing bones need to stay
strong. A real must. Especially if you plan on sticking
your neck out."

Subject: BUFFY: Alternative Weponry
Hi All,
I've been thinking a lot about some of the proposed alternative
weaponry. Wooden Bullets are not really my speciality, so I'll leave
that to those of you that have info on that subject. However my ears
perked up when I saw someone's post mentioning throwing stakes. (Ala
throwing knives.)
This has been stewing in my mind for a while now, and I really like
the idea. I throw daggers and the thought of Buffy and Co. playing
darts with Vampyres, makes me smile. (I know, I'm sick and twisted, I
know.) Unfortunately, I can't help but think of how difficult it would
be to design a stake that would have the proper balance and weight to
get it to fly correctly.
As far as the discussion about how much force would be required for
it to penetrate? Well if you could get a stake that was balanced enough
to fly right it wouldn't be much of an issue. A properly thrown knife
doesn't take much to sink, as long as it has a sufficiently sharp
point. (In fact some of my practice blades have no blade, just a
*very* sharp point.)
Gadgets and gizmos don't normally fuel this much glee for me, but I
love archaic weaponry. I can't help but think that an array of throwing
stakes would make a better, and more easily concealed weapon than a
cross bow...

I'm just curious as to what people's specific dislikes with the site are,
besides the time it takes to load up.
As for the question as to wether or not it's official, it is. buffy.com is
registered by WB. The tricky thing is, Ultimate TV didn't design the site.
If you look at the source code for a site by Ultimate TV and this site,
they're very different styles. This new site was designed by "Apollo
Interactive" (www.apolloi.com). Maybe Ultimate TV and the WB had some type
of conflict and the WB decided to try someone else to design the site, or
maybe the WB just doesn't care for UltimateTV's site. I don't know. But
either way, tehy payed a new company to design a new site, judging by the
looks of it, one that cost a lot of money to develop. So I doubt they'll
keep the old one. If you have concerns about it, don't voice them to Apollo
Interactive, send them to WB since they make the decisions.

Does anyone know what is going on with Geocities? Every page on Gecities is
not accessable. I have tons of banners on my banner pages and half of them are
totally gone. I can't get to any Buffy site and I don't know what is up. Can
anyone tell me what is going on? I'd hate to see all those Buffy pages
dissapear.

Subject: BUFFY: (Maybe off topic)The new Buffy site
Hi all,
I've read alot of posts about the new site at
www.buffy.com, and there is a regular firestorm
happening at the UTV postingboard. Well, here's
some info. www.buffy.com is registered to The
WB, www.buffythevampireslayer.com(the URL that
you are redirected to after you type in
www.buffy.com) is registered to Apollo
Interactive, and www.buffyslayer.com is still
registered to Ulimate TV. That is of 4PM pacific
today. Looks like The WB has gotten someone else
to run the official site, but UTV still owns the
domain where the first board is at so they can
keep it going, so the first site will probably
stay because it is big draw and that brings in
advertising for UTV.
Glad to muddy the waters,
Ricki
